This still work just fine with Java too. Native is an option not forced.

Everyone take a chill pill. Reasons for mcp and jev (classification) is listed in here: https://earendil.com/posts/you-said-no-mcp/
It’s good changes. Not corporate greed :)

Im having a lot of fun with Javafx but boy its rendering pipeline uses a lot of ram compared to swing …
maxandersen
Use hibernate statelessSession you should be fine. No spring nor jdbctemplate required.
No one never said you must use all of JPA all the time.

It’s telling though that I don’t recall ever seeing modular jars like these before.
java -jar even fails in spectacular ways :)
maxandersen
For now I updated Jbang to handle these jars that has no manifest entry but does have module info a as modular run rather than Java -jar
Because they do behave slightly different (service loading and versioning is not working via classpath as it’s currently done)
maxandersen
well it does not have to be that complicated to run :)
if there was a main class defined jbang could just run it.
seem to have zero module requirements.
maxandersen
Yes i get its hard to name things but in this case you are doing things many did before so at least recognize it :)
maxandersen
one cannot open issues nor open pullrequests...so:
the jar uploaded to maven central does not have main class defined thus the java -jar in readme does not work.

Netflix - you should be nice and check already existing tools with similar names https://github.com/bmarwell/jfmt and https://github.com/jbangdev/jbang-fmt

Why in Quarkus dev mode we print stacktraces reversed + include source code before/after the main user source code.
maxandersen
Looks interesting but with all links to docs / info is gone hard to know what / how to use it?
maxandersen
Reads as it’s just their non opensource parts that moves ?
maxandersen
No screenshots ?

Consider telling your agent to look at jgit to compare/contrast :)
maxandersen
Not exactly. I can pay to get packages delivered at home.
There is afaik no way I can as private person pay to get API access to get my mail in one place.
maxandersen
And still - afaik there is no public API for private people to access your mail so we are all still required to manually go in to multiple places to gather mail and tied to vendors.
It's such a pain.

I really dont want a runtime for every app on my drive if can be avoided - for that jbang, npx, uvx is good.
For statically linked - yes hermtic would be awesome - in mean time you can try out https://github.com/jbangdev/jpaxa
maxandersen
The scripting feature of jbang is todays time the least important feature.
It is that with jbang you can run any jar, maven repo GAV, any java, kotlin, groovy etc. and any jshell file the same way - support for java agents, debugging, jfr, etc.
Without first having to pick and install a specific JDK.
maxandersen
fyi: you can add `-i` to anything runnable with jbang and you get a jshell configured with the relevant classpath.
jbang is nothing but ease-of-use access to JDK's toolset

Du får upvote for at lave det fra Odense!

Looks great. Can you add zmx support ? :)
maxandersen
thanks for ghosttyfx - its awesome. while you are here - any idea on https://github.com/vlaaad/ghosttyfx/issues/2 ? :)
maxandersen
Very little - which is the point and why I could do it this fast 😉
It puts these together and create a simple way to launch/run it. Basically the others are libraries, this is an application.
The Application features listed on https://github.com/maxandersen/jhostty is what jhostty currently provides:
- 🪟 Multiple Windows, Tabs & Splits
- Built-in Themes
- Zoom
- Drag-and-drop — drop files, text, or URLs onto any terminal pan
- Link detection — clickable URLs in terminal output
- Right-click context menu — styled to match the current theme
- Shell integration — search (⌘F/Ctrl+F) and prompt navigation via Ghostty shell integration
- Native macOS menu bar — app name, menus, and shortcuts feel native
- Cross-platform shortcuts — ⌘ on macOS, Ctrl on Windows/Linux
- settings/custom settings
Nice. Since this post I’ve done https://github.com/jbangdev/jpaxa which is more generic but I think similar lines. As I wrote last - would love to work together on it as to me this fits well with making Java more accessible.
AOT is for me still very hit and miss. I know it should work in theory but I don’t feel it in practice (graalvm is way more effective here) - but might just not use it for the right apps :)
