I moved here from Portland a few months ago, and I'm the prime target for this film, but I just assumed it would never play here at all, so I was planning on watching it at home when it becomes obtainable. But a theatrical viewing would be amazing for this one. I'm just afraid it would be dubbed in Georgian or something, and that wouldn't be nearly as fun for me.

I really like your shop! As a socially awkward person myself, and now one who lives in a country where I can't talk to most people, I appreciate having places where I don't have to explain that I don't want anything with meat or eggs.
Still trying to figure out how to convince people not to wrap every little thing I buy in two layers of plastic, but that's slowly getting better.

Does your friend know about the monthly meetup at Kiwi? It's a really nice cafe, and it looks like the organizer and I are the only ones who've signed up for the meetup tomorrow. It'll be my first time going to the meetup, but the cafe itself is one of the best I've been to here.

Oh, no apology necessary. It was a really dumb joke. And as u/LabCat5379 pointed out, I didn't even get the details right. I just saw two details in adjacent tech news that reminded me of the sketch.

There was a recent security issue with websites that use PHP, which is a lot of them. I don't know how it works, but the big realization was that the password to access pretty much everything was just the number 4.

Thanks, I'll see if I can find a few consultancy joints and see if they have any ideas! As long as I'm making money from outside Georgia, I won't need to worry about getting a visa for at least a few years.
I'm looking for lead UX roles, as I've been a team lead in user research & product design since 2013. I'd be up for any team that speaks a decent amount of English, but if I had the luxury of turning gigs down, I'd probably avoid Germany and France.
I've also been giving a workshop on the research & design process, mostly geared toward product teams without designers on board, since it's the new hip trend to lay off all your designers and expect AI to fill the void left behind. If those designers aren't coming back, the best I can offer is a course to teach the rest of the team how to do that work in their absence. I've given the workshop to a bunch of people, but marketing it to paying attendees isn't exactly my strong suit, so I'm hoping to find someone to sell it for a good chunk of the revenue.

I should have clarified I mean actually writing the code, the not all the planning and prep work that goes into deciding what to build, or testing it to make sure it doesn't interfere with existing code. An engineering team might take a while getting everything ready to implement, making sure there'll be as few surprises as possible, but typing out those lines isn't the bulk of that work, in my experience as a non-coder who works alongside them.

Those who refuse to use it will eventually become unable to compete.
I seriously don't get this argument. We aren't all competing with one another, the vast majority of us aren't making our $100 back, and programming speed isn't the biggest factor toward publishing a game. Coding is one of the quickest parts of software development, honestly.
If writing code is your main roadblock, it's hard to imagine you've put much time or thought into research, testing and narrative design, and I assume you aren't making something I'd be interested in playing in the first place.

I should probably look into this, but I can't say I'm excited about it. I got a root canal about 15 years ago, and my last dentist says it didn't work, which I didn't realize was a possibility. He referred me to a specialist, and every time I'd go in, he'd ask if I'd had it taken care of, but I could never afford to.
I'd like to at least get a second opinion, as I've read enough horror stories about procedures that weren't actually required, and if I can avoid going through all that again, that would make me pretty happy. But I imagine there's some truth to what he was saying, and I should probably get it taken care of someday.

The big difference? Distance was actually released.

After I complained that a forced update broke their older, much more preferable apps on my machine, and I wanted to go back to what I'd been using, but was no longer available through CC, one of those people sent me the Adobe "cleaner" tool and told me I could run it to restore my apps. I stupidly ran it without looking into what cleaning means to that company, and it just deleted all my apps so I could re-download everything, including some of the other older versions that did still work at the time.
To hell with this company and everything they stand for.

Hope you have a safe flight home. Congrats getting through this weird chapter. You should be able to look back on this someday soon and know you did the right thing for yourself.

I can count on nobody's fingers the number of times countering "I'm not interested in your particular religion" with the number of a bible verse has yielded successful results.

It's owned by a Russian couple, and when I stayed there, I think the only English word I heard the entire time was "coffee." But Google Translate works wonders in a place like that, of course.
It's called Guest House Zarzma, and I can't recall the exact price, but I know it felt incredibly reasonable, at least as a newcomer to the country who wasn't quite used to the cost of things by that point. There's a beautiful little garden area there, and it just felt chill to relax there. And I swear I'm not getting a kickback, I just really enjoyed it there.
Be prepared to be offered plenty of fruits and breads and wine in the morning, at least on your last day. Hopefully you're a lot less particular about what you eat than I am.

If you need to get away from the family but can't leave Kutaisi yet, I know a gorgeous B&B there that I'd recommend. From what I've read, I'd take everyone else's advice to leave as soon as you can, but I know that isn't always easy advice to take. But if you do, let me know if you need a recommendation for a short-term stay while you're playing your exit.

Besides the difference in industry, from what I learned from my trademark lawyer, a trademark can only be upheld once the mark is being used in trade. So if they haven't started making money using the mark, it'd be hard to fight you once you've started.
But also, like everyone else here is saying, you're fine.

I'm sure you didn't mean it that way, but "I travel all over for focus groups" makes me imagine someone who finds focus groups and signs up, then drives all over the country while doing a bit of research so they'll know just enough to say a few things on the topic.
The $25-100 focus groups pay, plus an occasional Chipotle buffet, that could be a fun way to live for a couple years.

I've been here for a couple months, and I'm really happy I chose Gldani. A couple busy streets with relative peace and quiet the moment you turn off the main road, a chaotic bazaar, a maze full of random shops, and an easy train ride downtown when it's called for.

Same with me (US) and my partner (JP). It was surreal how little they cared, and I want to attribute it to us being the last people on probably the last international flight of the day. Good chance the customs person just wanted to get their shift over with and get home.

I haven't had any pizza since moving here a few months ago, and part of the reason behind that is everything I've tried with cheese in it. Cheese was one thing standing in the way of me going full vegan, and now it might just happen.

The vast majority of games don't turn a profit, but they have to get made. Everyone's got a story to tell, and this is a great way to do it while building a portfolio, especially with Godot gaining traction across the industry.

I've seen a handful of game devs now in this sub. I'd love to have a meetup sometime if a few devs are up for it.
I'm still pretty ignorant on the details of firewalls. Is yours able to block those connections? Or is it that you need to allow them for your devices' functionality, and the firewall exposes where those connections go?
