This entire thread reads like a bunch of children tried Negronis once then went back to putting vodka in their Starbucks Refresherstm

This is exactly what I've seen.

Hiring went insanely up during COVID stimulus. Layoffs went crazy down during COVID. Now that COVID is long past over, head counts and layoff are returning to previous normal rates. But, that's higher than the crazy low rates, so the headlines get to scream "LAYOFFS ARE UP MASSIVELY!" to bait clicks.

Journalists know that AI anxiety ragebaits the clicks that gets them paid. CEOs have observed that if they blame the layoffs on AI, their stock price goes up. So, they are both colluding to make themselves rich by making everyone else depressed.

Speaking from experience, even when someone does have something of substance to say it can be covered in a few tough days. A few weeks, tops. After that, it’s weeks or months of sitting around together without much for anyone to say or do. Definitely not like the movies.

Personally, OP should focus on any opportunity for joy or connection he can get while he still can. Even if it is stupid slop.

Here's Don on Howard Stern in in 2008 describing watching an old man fall, hit his head and bleed out on the floor at Mar a Lago. In his own words, while the old man's wife was screaming for help, Don's only concern was how the incident made himself feel. And, he makes a point to mention that he thought he should call the next day to find out if the old man was OK. But, he forgot.

Much better! It looks like you got tired by the third sentence and ran out of the energy required to use punctuation. But, now that we can actually understand what you are saying, akornato was able to give you a great answer.

mindcandy

Are you looking for a job? Or, for an engineer to hire?

Either way... you are going to need to put a lot more effort into your writing. Like, basic punctuation and capitalization would be a good start. From there, move on to clearly explaining your goals and requirements.

I don't understand why this sub in particular gets so many people who write like 11 year olds sending txt messages.

mindcandy

They should be blasting Where is My Mind in Moscow right now!

In case it wasn't clear, I was being sarcastic when I asked what was wrong with your post. Because there’s nothing terribly wrong with your post. It’s not a well framed question. But, that’s still better than 50% of the rambling posts (who often don’t even get around to explicitly asking the question) I’ve seen in tech subreddits since the dawn of Reddit.

Lately so many people are so upset about AI that the only way to avoid accusations is to

write like an 11 year old sending a text message no capitalization no punchline barely functional grammar and plenty of speling mistakes

Anything more structured than that and “AI must have wrote this.” People’s AI-radars are not nearly as good as they think. And, when 100 people read something, you are going to get 2 or 3 false positives. It’s just statistics :/

You’ve put more work into your baseline than most. That’s great. But, you do also need scalability in your quality/performance options. So, yeah. You need to target more than a single GPU performance family.

But, I’m not clear what you mean by “separate actual code bugs from hardware limits.” Hardware limits like feature availability, buffer sizes and number of samplers should be pretty obvious. Barring that, correct code should run on low end hardware even if it runs slow.

mindcandy

Can you point at the LLM-isms for me. Because I’m too dumb to see it. Is it: Mostly-decent grammar? Actually using punctuation? Or, bothering to use bold text, albeit in a kinda clunky way?

Your analytics tab shows you that your most popular code vid had 160 people show up hoping to learn something and leaving disappointed. You are not helping. You are disappointing hundreds of people at a time.

Either start making some actual content or please stop making it harder for all of us to find actual content. Please. Your current strategy is counter-productive to your own goals and is dragging down everyone else in the process.

Here's a full clip

I hate Trump and I want him removed, retired and forgotten. But, I rate the headline "40% true".

He starts out "With the war it's just artificial. It's a little bit high. It's a small price to pay for keeping the world safe." Pretty sure he's talking about gas prices. But, his brain is fried and he can't speak coherently.

He expands with "They can take out a city." Pretty sure he's explaining what kind of threat we are under (And have been for decades. But's that's a different topic...)

Then his hate takes over his brain and pushing him into thinking (If their gonna do it then) and out loud "Let em take out LA. Let em take out SD. That's..." He almost takes his mask of to say (That would be a small price to pay.)But, he catches himself and says "This is a small price to pay." And, I'll be generous and assume that with his frontal-lobe temporarily back in charge of his mouth, he's back to referring to gas prices.

Someone please haul the president out of the white house in a straight jacket and a diaper before he get's us all nuked.

Sorry, my dude. No one wants to watch code scroll past without any context or content at all.

If you want to make some videos explaining how to make a good C++ user interface, or the trade-offs of different styles of scene graphs, that would be worth people's attention.

But, lately all you have been doing is tossing noise into small communities that are trying to focus on learning.

mindcandy

What is your goal in making and posting these videos?

When AI picked up a few years ago, there was a tremendous amount of concern in tech and academia over AI creating a feedback loop over systemic biases. You couldn't take a step in AI academic circles without running into discussions like:

  • It's documented that cops like to use black neighborhoods to top off their quotas with low-effort, low-priority arrests.
  • It's documented that PDs want to use ML to optimized cop location/timing assignments.
  • ML is going to see the data from racists cops and recommend sending even more cops to nuisance-arrest more black people because it doesn't understand why there are so many arrests in black neighborhoods near the end of each quota period. It only sees the numbers, not the people.

This might not have been visible in your circles. But, for everyone working in AI, this was very loud for a long time.

And so, the AI researchers overcompensated because they are figuring out how to steer these new machines while they are building them and rebuilding them mid-flight.

If you think they've got that all sorted out already, you have too much faith in tech research.

These menu options are leftovers from the height of COVID. Made sense then. Removing them would take "effort" and would cost the staff potential beer money. But, we all agree it's long past overdue to be removed. In bad taste at this point.

Just so I'm clear:

  1. Type a couple sentence fragments into memegenerator.com -> Soul.
  2. Describe a meme format, a scene, a style and the dialog to an image generator -> Slop.

I mean, they are both low effort. But, I find it funny that the route that requires tiny effort gets trashed in favor of the negligible-brain-activity technique :P

I can totally believe that somewhere else he said he wants to kick seniors off healthcare. But, that's not at all what he said here. Did anyone make it through the entire 30 seconds of the video? You don't even need to read. Just sit there and let the video auto-play.

You have just described communism. Communism is not socialism.

I'm not a poli sci major or a Tumblrista and even I know that you are mistaken.

Under communism, The People don't just own the means of production. The People own everything. The houses, the cars, the pants, the socks. And, the government takes the role of representing The Will of The People, deciding who gets what.

Under socialism, you own your house, car, socks. But, no one can own shares of a company. While you work at a company, you get to vote on how it operates. But, when you quit, that's the end of the story. No investors, no stock options. Not even for the founders. Instead, the company has to go to The People (represented by your local government council) to petition for investment in capital that The People will own and lend to the company.

Social Democracy is completely different from either of those. Unfortunately, a ton of prominent Democrats have labeled themselves "Socialists" for reasons that completely escape me. The only reason I can think of to do that is to make life fat and happy for right wing propaganda. Makes zero sense to me.

I think it’s awesome that you want to teach people assembly. But, teaching is a lot of work. Part of that work is putting a lot of attention into every word you write. Each word deserves that attention from you because you are expecting a large multiplier of that attention back from the many people who are going to read them.

So, if I see you declare that you want to teach, but you aren’t going to read what you expect lots of other people to read. Or, you are going to write without capitalization or punctuation. I’m going to call you out on that.

I know you can do it. You can teach a lot of people awesome stuff! So, show everyone what you can do by writing carefully.
