"Denver to start requiring speed governors in all cars"
Fair's fair! If we're gonna require manufacturers to enforce traffic laws, we might as well start with the actually dangerous vehicles
mittyhands
I agree, they need their own space. Parking space and riding lanes. But let's not blow it out of proportion. Most scooter injuries are to the rider themselves, not pedestrians. And why not care about all of the cyclists and scooter riders who are injured or killed by cars then? We need a safe transportation network for everyone.
mittyhands
That's maybe some kind of solution but I wouldn't say it's an easy one. Why hasn't anyone solved it that way if it's so easy?
Should Ford be liable for every drunk driver too? I mean that would fix a bigger societal harm than some people riding 50lb scooters on a sidewalk.
mittyhands
It's an enforcement problem and an infrastructure problem. My point is just that veo can't actually do the enforcement, so the city will have to do it. Same as they do with cars (well, what they should do with cars)
mittyhands
It's marked as a bike route though - why don't you take a pedestrian only route if it's annoying to you? See how dumb that sounds? The problem is the 4 full car lanes causing the lack of space
mittyhands
A "huge problem" is cars killing pedestrians. Climate change is a huge problem. People riding scooters on the sidewalk is annoying and a bit reckless. I see so much more reckless behavior from car drivers every single day
mittyhands
Yeah the problem is that 15th doesn't have a dedicated bike lane. It's one of the only ways in/out of downtown to the west by bike. The problem is the amount of area given to cars

I commute to an RTD station on Veo regularly. Every single time I ride (in the street, legally) near Mile High, it flags me as riding on the sidewalk. Being slowed down to 5mph while riding in traffic (because lol no bike lane for you) is super dangerous and really annoying. I'm riding it the right way - your tech just isn't good enough to know where the actual bike lanes are by GPS alone.
That said, the e bikes are mostly great. Way fewer issues than lime or bird. Super useful for getting around town.
The city needs to cut the shit about "banning sidewalk riding". It's just not a big problem. Sure, have some cops hand out tickets to people doing it in busy areas - it's not a good thing to do. But don't pretend this can be solved through tech alone. The actual solution is to build a decent bike lane network throughout the city.
We don't expect car manufacturers to ban speeding (although that's a simpler problem to solve imo). Why require Veo to make sure their riders don't break the law? That's your job! You're the one with the laws!

Nah, the road works fine actually for a big group of people running together. It's not super busy on a Tuesday at 7pm. Bikes can go around, cars can go around. You do it all the time for idling cars and delivery vans and other bikers. If the sidewalks were better/wider, then yeah, run there. If there were big parks in that neighborhood, sure. But the sidewalks are ass in rino.
mittyhands
One of the breweries is hosting a run club tonight probably. The sidewalks in rino are narrow, uneven, and sometimes missing altogether, so it can be easier/safer to run in the road. The safest part of the road tends to be where the speeding cars aren't, so that means running in the bike lane.
That there's not enough room on the sidewalks the regular foot traffic means that there should be more pedestrian-only space allotted. This doesn't mean it should come at the expense of cyclists though - there's clearly not enough room for all of the people using the public right of way. The same is true in many other popular, walkable urban neighborhoods. It's much more crowded and hard to bike down those streets on a Friday or Saturday night, and it's not because of joggers!

Come to Denver big dog. More trails nearby than you'll know what to do with. Denver itself is great too, way less hot than texas

You asked what I don't like about it and I answered. The theme config was a whole breaking change that they didn't document, and there was no way to configure certain components with the new system or old system. It's not a problem and LLM solves, it's a governance problem that any design has inflicted upon its users. Sure, maybe it's updated now, but why would I want to use their shitty, poorly managed library ever again?
mittyhands
Breaking semver, theme config is a nightmare, documentation is often incorrect or has broken English, bad UX / just kinda looks like shit

Oh yeah - the land will be expropriated when the landlord executions begin. All property owners will have to swear allegiance to the new car-free order - private vehicle expropriation will follow shortly thereafter. No trace of the decadent bourgeois built environment shall survive the revolution. The means of transportation will be seized swiftly and without mercy.

I mean I think they would just sell their land voluntarily to someone who wants to increase density in their town, idk. I'm not the urbanism czar man. I guess we'd just upzone some stuff and maybe build public housing nearby the train stops to encourage a dense urban neighborhood. That's my best guess. This is just fanfiction anyway
mittyhands
I mean yeah, it's fantasy right now. But in 2008/9 we had a viable plan to build this rail along I-70. Nothing is impossible. Especially not building some apartments in a mountain town - that seems trivial compared to the rail system
mittyhands
You'd replace the parking lots with housing, presumably. There's plenty of under utilized space there. Or replace a few single family homes with apartments.

Check out how to get to Zermatt or Grindelwald in Switzerland. Both have big ski areas. You take a fast train from the big cities to a smaller connection city, then transfer to a smaller/slower/steeper train to the final destination in the high valleys with the ski base area. Towns like Murren and Zermatt don't even allow private cars to drive up to them! Imagine the same thing but for Breck or A Basin

"the 70"

Huh that's weird, did the they remove all the illegal settlements in the west bank before then? Did they not attack the al aqsa mosque? Seems like maybe there was some provocation before 10/7, idk man
mittyhands
But we can handle sprawl...? Even though that's less efficient for infra/water than dense urban neighborhoods?
mittyhands
Denver water gave us a nice britta filter until they could replace the lead service line. They said it was effective for any drinking water or cooking, so I'd say there's definitely filters that do remove lead.

Good luck escaping the tesla when it sets itself on fire after a minor crash. And have fun with the wheels falling off while you're driving it. Dogshit cars. But hey, at least the owner of the company is a nazi dickhead, so it's not all bad news.
Although you're clearly on the ai bandwagon, so it's probably the right choice for you.
mittyhands
Yeah there's people who know what they're talking about who have covered this extensively

There's no "AI swarm" or "secret messages" or "internal thoughts", there's just careless OpenAI employees who don't know how to properly secure their own systems, and there's a control program that executes whatever code the LLM tells it to. That's it.
They didn't isolate it from the Internet well enough while telling it to solve hacking problems, then came up with the commands necessary to hack into a system to retrieve the answers to it's hacking challenge.
mittyhands
Directionally correct. More correct than an LLM Is.
"Along Federal, the BRT would operate in shared lanes between 20th and 52nd avenues."
So it's a bus line with nicer stops, not a BRT.
"While Colfax’s BRT construction was overseen by Denver’s Department of Transportation and Infrastructure, the Federal and Colorado projects will be overseen by the state’s Department of Transportation."
Oh yeah they're gonna completely fuck this up. Let me guess, the 20th to 52nd stretch is too narrow to add a bus-only lane since it's the densest part of the city. So they're gonna just jam bigger busses along the corridor and make them get stuck in traffic.
What is the point of doing this so half-assedly? Why wouldn't you just take away a car lane for the BRT system so it actually runs quickly?
