Back in high school my GFs parents rented a house on a lake for a week. I take work off so I could be up there with her, and the general plan was that friends and family would filter in and out all week. We get up there and I find out her ex is coming up. She invited him because "they're friends and he knows the whole family!" My gf would invite him to too many things, which was it's own issue, but this dude was also a habitual line stepper. I don't know why this guy wanted to be around his ex and her new bf all the time.

He was up there for multiple nights doing everything with us. My girl was on my case the entire time about me being an ass, but I wasn't budging. It's not like he was even a cool guy to be around, the dude straight up sucked. I wouldn't like him even if he wasn't the ex haha. Unfortunately I drove up with her, so I didn't have any way to leave, so I was stuck up there for the week. He was finally hemming and hawing about going home, and while she was trying to convince him to stay, I was practically shoving him out the door. He did end up leaving, and we had some time to ourselves which was nice.

He eventually faded into obscurity, but so did I haha. Which is fine. Her and I had some great times together but definitely weren't meant for each other. She always liked some level of attention from guys, but always in an' innocent' way. We ended up breaking up and she's happily married to a guy who was 'just a friend' but I was always suspicious about. It's water under the bridge at this point, that feels like a lifetime ago. But your story reminded me of that one summer.

They can peddle anything as the truth and repeat it often enough that it becomes the truth to their captive audience.

It's really obvious when people in your life share 'facts' about a place you live or have visited and they haven't. Detroit, Chicago, Seattle, Portland, LA, NYC - alllll dangerous cities that I should not bring my family to. Don't even get me started on other counties. It's amazing how their bubble gets smaller and smaller until they're just paranoid living inside their house afraid of everything. But remember, we're the scared, weak, snowflakes.

Yea I know at least 2 people who would have joined up the day we graduated. Not surprising to anyone, they did become cops. One is mostly good, but the other is a big ol piece of shit. He had been since middle school when he made a bomb threat (that's a story for another time). He worked for an armored truck company and police departments across two different states and had issues everywhere he went. A few of us tried to stop him from being hired as a state trooper but that didn't work. He had multiple issues as a state trooper and the final straw was a domestic issue with his wife, that took place in front of their kid. So he got hit with child endangerment in addition to other charges. Now that I'm typing all this out, I should look him up. ICE is probably the only place that would employ him at this point.

And swiftly get run over while riding in the bike lane on Northwestern that people love to drive in.

I say that wish snark because I love cycling, and used to ride to work when I lived closer. What bike infrastructure we do have is basically meaningless because no one in cars knows how to behave around bikes. I had a coworker tell me I should be riding on the sidewalk when they passed me riding in a bike lane.

I used to love riding to work. It's some free exercise, and was a great way to start and end my day. But now it would be a pretty treacherous 40 min ride. The time being the least of my worries - the roads to get there would not make for a safe or enjoyable ride.

I think they're saying that actual people came up with the graphics to make the skins as opposed to using AI to create it.

I work with 3d rendering, and basically overnight people are now like "oh so it's all AI", when it's not. It's real people making it work. So I think I understand their point of trying to say that they aren't using AI to create their products.

dbrand sells skins and cases for phones and consoles. My guess is they're saying that they have real people coming up with stuff, not AI. Their shtick is to be snarky.

For what it's worth, I've owned two of their grip phone cases and I actually really like them.

Even regular radial tires can take sharp objects and usually be ok in the short term. Trying to puncture a regular ol' passenger tire is difficult by hand, it's just a lot of material to get through.

Everyone should buy a tire plug kit the next time they pick up a nail and try to ream out the hole. It's not easy, and there's already a hole in it! Pulling a valve stem out is honestly easier and more effective. And if you don't want to pull the valve stem, shove something in there and screw the cap on enough to hold the valve stem down and let the air out of the tire.

I haven't had any bans, but I do keep getting warnings that I'm violating the ToS. I assume it's only a matter of time before a full ban.

You're being downvoted for advocating self defense? At some point people reach a breaking point and move from resistance to defense. If a random person tries to abduct you, you fight for your life. Why is it any different when it's someone with a mask and a gun? Sure maybe they're wearing camo and a helmet, but how do any of us know law enforcement vs someone just larping as such when they refuse to identify themselves? They're detaining politicians and us normal citizens are just supposed to record it and call 911?

This is my opinion about pretty much all social media. I sub to a handful of channels, and I have some I don't sub to but will check periodically. I don't see any AI slop, no Mr. Beast, etc. Instagram is the same thing.

I was working out of a hotel for work with the possibility of relocation when some things went very badly with the job and relocation. Without outing myself, it all sort of came crashing down because of work politics. It was night and I drove to the ocean just to look and listen. Then I went into the water. I just started swimming and when I stopped I was about the distance of the end of the pier. I can't describe how it felt to float there and not see the difference between the ocean and sky. Then I thought of a rouge wave, me getting tired, literally anything, could just kill me and no one would have any idea.

On one hand it was a pretty dumb thing to do. On the other, I have never felt more calm and liberated in my life. Night walks get close, but nothing will feel like floating in the darkness of the ocean.

Exactly!
