Sludge Factory. It wasn’t a commercial hit on the self titled album but it’s their best song on that album. The album itself is underrated too.

I’m 35. The 2010s are exponentially better than the 2020s.

I wouldn’t want to live near the turnpike/80/4 bottleneck. Too far north jersey for me with too much traffic. I would rather be closer to the shore but not too close where you have lower paying jobs and fewer job opportunities. I grew up in Union County. It’s definitely getting too crowded with apartments but I like that it’s close enough to NYC and still only 45 minutes to an hour from the shore. I’m not a lakes guy so I prefer the beach.

I would never live in this part of NJ. Monmouth, Somerset, Morris, and parts of Union and Middlesex Counties are the best to live in

Their workflow and tech stack was hidden from me during the interview too. I didn’t even think to ask about it in the interview because I assumed they used hardware and software from this decade to stay in business.

I’m currently dealing with working at a small 16 employee civil engineering land development firm in central NJ where the only PE is the 100% owner of the company and he runs it like a dictatorship. He’s 63 and needs to retire but won’t. His senior engineers working for him are paid like entry levels and they are afraid to ask for more money or even better working conditions. They each have one square monitor from 2005 and are content with that. I started here 3 months ago and I am using a 2012 PC running windows 7 and I’m forced to use Autocad 2008. I have no bluebeam or even adobe pro, just adobe reader. All markups are on full size plans. We don’t have microsoft teams or meetings either. Our boss just checks on us individually every 2-3 hours unannounced. Never does he ever give any positive reinforcement. Everything is a critique. I have to text him or email him my progress every morning or else he gets nervous. He shouts employees’ names from his office to get their attention. He has told me that I’m making him go broke because I’m going over budget. He has told me that he told a client a plan I was working on was finished before confirming it with me first, then kept reminding me how embarrassing it was so he was basically blaming me. He has told me to stay out of the bathroom and stay off my phone. I use my phone to google procedures and standards at work because the internet speeds on google chrome on my PC are only a shockingly low 60 MBPS. I have 8 years experience and I’m being paid entry level salary. I only took this job because I was laid off from my last one and this was my only offer. It’s also 5 days a week in the office and I had to wait 3 months for benefits. 22 miles each way commute, 40-45 minutes by car with traffic. PTO accrues too so it’s not even front loaded. I’m working 9-10 hour days or even later and my boss doesn’t appreciate it. He keeps saying I need to speed it up. I told him I can’t work as fast as he needs me to on older CAD and he doesn’t understand. He told me that he has a short fuse so he doesn’t have want me having any push back to anything he says.

We also don’t have microsoft teams either or HydroCAD. We use Hydraflow 2005 for stormwater design. Their workflow and office was hidden from me during the interview. I only had access to the main lobby and conference room. I did not think to ask about the workflow and the software/hardware used in the interview because I assumed it was up to industry standard. That was a huge mistake on my part. I was only given a tour after I accepted the offer and I had to do onboarding paperwork unpaid that day before my start date. I have 8 years of experience and only took this job because it was my only offer after getting laid off from a much better company.

I work for a civil engineering firm in private land development in central NJ and the design engineers don’t have bluebeam. We don’t even have adobe pro, only adobe reader. All of our markups are on paper. We are using Autocad 2008 on 2012 PCs running Windows 7. It’s absolutely awful. I’ve been here 3 months and it’s driving me crazy. When I scan my markups to see them on my second monitor side by side with with CAD open to somewhat mimic bluebeam, my coworkers look at me crazy and think it’s a waste of time. I also prefer to use the measuring tool on adobe and setting the scale to get lengths from markups, especially for curves, and my coworkers want me to use my physical scale on the paper plans.

It’s not even top 100. Only the top 50 get prizes. The top scorer gets super bowl tickets, flight, and hotel and the other 49 get gift cards.

Benefits are being close to the city, 45 minutes to an hour from the shore, an hour to the mountains, 90 minutes to Philly, and the most diverse cuisine in the country.
Disadvantages are too expensive, too much traffic, terrible drivers, constant accidents on the road, constant road construction on the parkway in Union County, and NJ transit rail lines are only designed to handle commuters to/from NYC.

Sundays are great until the prime time game starts. I can sleep in and then do what I need to do until 1pm.
For the night games, most of the time I go to bed after the first half ends. If my team is playing and it’s a close game, I’ll stay up to watch but I’m tired the next day.

If you think January 6th was worse than 9/11, you need your head examined. Not being born yet or being too young to remember is not an excuse to downplay the magnitude of that horrific day, with all of the footage of that day you can watch online.

Fuck that. I work for a private land development engineering firm and I take a break from work to eat my lunch and then I go for a 15 minute walk outside if the weather allows for it to get fresh air and exercise.
Raising Cane’s. It was ok. The chicken isn’t anything special. The fries should be crispier and the Texas toast should actually be toast and not just soft bread. The sauce was good, but not what I expected. I would give it a 6.5/10.
