OP, look for writing opportunities in your current company. Go into the internal job board and use the network you already have within your company to talk to a hiring manager for a position you are interested and ask what are they looking for in a person for that position. Explain that, while you may not have the necessary experience, you can bring X, Y and Z to the table. Try to convince them to give you a shot. You may be surprised with the results.
