Glad to hear

nwatts1999

I’m reading the Warboss data card and must be missing something. What unique ability do you mean?

nwatts1999

Thank you. That’s super unclear considering “the rule allowing this move type” could just as easily be the Ork faction rules

nwatts1999

Which units get it by default?

nwatts1999

Ok. The way the rules about special move types is worded makes it unclear that Orks units aren’t able to assault disembark normally. Maybe it’s because I’m reading on wahapedia?

nwatts1999

I read the rules on wahapedia because I don’t own the book. On there it lists 2 special move types that “certain or all” Orks units are eligible to make. I assume that means it’s a move type all Orks units are able to make just like the normal 3 disembark moves. Is being eligible to make that move not the same as being able to? It’s very unclear

nwatts1999

Unfortunately Yarrick’s rule specifies that counterstrategist doesn’t work if the target unit has been targeted by Fire Overwatch. You could fire with two different units, but that would be hard to set up in this scenario

nwatts1999

Oh dope, i love Joushi

nwatts1999

I like him better in a normal uniform. It shows that the soldiers have interiority even though they all look similar

nwatts1999

Don’t put them with Kasrkin. It’s a trap! The Castellan makes them lose scout move, and the unit is meant to trade up and die anyways. You can get similar shooting with sustained hits from tempestus scions with a command squad, plus deep strike and re-roll wounds, all for the same amount of points!

nwatts1999

Castellans - at max 1 unless you’re playing only infantry. For me 3 Russes usually does it, and I magnetize them so I can swap the weapons

nwatts1999

My pleasure. Good luck!

nwatts1999

10 shock troops aren’t going to effect much in combat no matter what you do. I only use a Castellan if I’m fully investing in the unit: 20 shock troops, command squad, Castellan, and Ogryn body guard. In this case I recommend cutting it.

It’s a similar story with the horses. Rough riders are good in 10th but now the way engagement is measured has changed and it’s a lot harder to get them all in combat range. Death riders are better for screening because of the reactive move.

If you want to pump squadron orders I’d recommend upgrading one of your Dorns to a 2nd commander and cutting the 10 battleline. You could also take Titan killer off the shadowsword and swap on Battalion Commander, but you don’t have to

You also would benefit a lot from an enginseer to keep your shadowsword alive.

After all that you should have 50 points left to do with as you will. If you can clear another 45 you could add Gaunt’s ghosts, or clear 5 for a scout sentinel. There might be an enhancement in one of the 1DP detachments you could look at

nwatts1999

What is the Castellan’s plan? It can’t really give orders without a command squad. You’re a bit light on squadron orders too, but Yarrick’s splash ability and careful positioning can compensate for that.

If the horses are only for screening then death riders would probably be better

nwatts1999

I agree, but that’s not what he asked

nwatts1999

I’d go Aquilons (or preferably Gaunt’s ghosts). Having a deep strike unit is really valuable for secondary scoring

nwatts1999

Yep, that’s the point. Engineers are awesome because they can use the remote mine, throw grenades, and still do an action. If they do even half of that then they’ve paid for themselves. In my experience my opponent usually ignores them, but it’s fine if they die. Death riders are more survivable but also easier to shoot. They’re harder to charge though thanks to the reactive move

nwatts1999

Yep! Krieg are better than Cadians in every way except Cadians have better officers. If you want battleline with no attached characters it’s Krieg every time. Maybe Catachan if you need the scout move

nwatts1999

Drop the Castellan unless you’re going to go all in with him. By that I mean 20 Cadians, a command squad, and an Ogryn bodyguard

Cut all the shock troops but 10. Have Solar join 10 with a command squad so he can use the master Vox. Replace the shock troops with death Korps or whatever else you might want

Grizzled needs action doers. Stormsword is actually pretty good at this since it can action and shoot thanks to being Titanic. Other good action doers are Krieg combat engineers, death riders, and sentinels, not to mention Gaunt’s Ghosts who you already have

nwatts1999

Armored sentinel doesn’t have enough firepower to really benefit from its rule. Its best use is as a super cheap 2+ save to screen, sometimes live on 1 wound, and die

nwatts1999

Let me know if you do!

nwatts1999

Is there anywhere I can find a more practical example? A lot of 40K tips talk about putting things in the right place but don’t give examples of what that might look like

nwatts1999

Probably mechanized assault. The Valkyrie is a fast transport and it can fit 5 tempestus, a command squad, commissar Yarrick, and maybe one more character if you’re feeling spicy. I don’t know how the timing works, but Overwatch is at the end of the movement phase now so maybe you could use Airborne Insertion before your opponent can shoot the Valkyrie and Overwatch with the tempestus?
