Former GOP Kansas Senate leader Gene Sullentrop owns the parent company and is a franchiser of Gambinos Pizza. He owned a bunch of franchise locations before getting into politics, where he did irreparable harm to the state before driving drunk on the wrong side of the highway and relinquishing his leadership role to Ty Masterson.
So yeah, that’s one thing to hate about Gambinos.

This is a genuine question: what specifically is it about Holscher that makes her a “lefty loon”?
I saw JD Vance called her a “left-wing lunatic” last week so this seems to be the line to go with, but I’m curious if you have any specific examples of why you think that.

The blast text commercial his campaign sent out the other day has a quick-cut clip of Hamilton saying “black lives matter” as if that’s the most damning evidence of EXTREME WOKENESS. So, yeah. They will grasp at all the straws between now and November.

Sad truth is way more people than you would think are just totally removed from politics all together. They don’t know about candidates or issues or what’s on the ballot. More importantly, they don’t care if their vote would make a difference or not. Why take 15-20 minutes to vote for people or things they don’t know or care about?
o-lay-tha
Maybe, but I think this tactic works more often than not and it was the GOP’s best shot at pushing that agenda through.
Primary elections should be for choosing the primary candidate from each party for the general election. Primary elections shouldn’t be for voting on constitutional amendments. With a GOP super majority, this won’t change any time soon.

I’m good with the 7-OH ban, but Kratom and 7-OH are vastly different things.

Do you understand we already do vote to keep the judges or not? This has been a thing for 70 years. If you actually vote, you’d know this because it’s on the ballot all of the time.
SC justices are not politicians. We shouldn’t treat them like one. A vote Yes here would allow anyone to qualify to be a KS SC Justice. Anyone. Even those that don’t have a law degree. Think about that.
o-lay-tha
“Goon squad of lawyers”. Ok.
o-lay-tha
“plus one lawyer that serves as the Chairman”
That one fact is how they put “whose membership consists mainly of lawyers” and why they campaign with “don’t let lawyers choose our judges”.
o-lay-tha
The people can choose to fire them after a year and again at at end of each term. We already have a voice.
Let a commission of non-partisan experts choose them. If they do poor job, the people vote to let them go. It works. It has for 70 years. Before that, they were elected, sure. But dark money pouring into campaigns wasn’t a thing then.
Voting yes here means the campaign with the most money going forward wins. When campaign finance is unrestricted, elections are bought and paid for.
o-lay-tha
Have you seen the verbiage on the ballot? It’s biased and misleading as fuck. This amendment will most likely pass because, of the 20% of voters that will actually turn out, most won’t know what their vote actually means.
Explanatory statement. This amendment gives the voters the right to elect the justices of the
Kansas supreme court. The justices shall serve terms of six years, with the elections of justice positions 1, 2 and 3 to occur in 2028, positions 4 and 5 to occur in 2030 and positions 6 and 7 to occur in 2032, and every six years thereafter. The rules applicable for such elections and the designation of position numbers shall be provided by law. Any vacancy on the court for an unexpiredterm shall be filled at an election as provided by law.
“A vote for this proposition would give Kansas citizens the right to elect Kansas supreme court justices as provided by law. Justices will hold office for terms of six years. The Kansas supreme court nominating commission, whose membership consists of a majority of lawyers, would be abolished.
“A vote against this proposition would continue the current system in which the Kansas supreme
court nominating commission, whose membership consists of a majority of lawyers, provides the
governor a list of three individuals to choose from for vacancies on the Kansas supreme court.
Justices hold office for a term of six years and retain their offices if they win a retention election in
which they do not face an opponent.
Even that last line totally diminishes the fact that we already have the right and the “voice” to fire sitting justices BY VOTING.

Is anyone surprised a GOP debate turned into insults and name-calling? That’s the Trump way when they have nothing of value to actually add and no real plan for anything but personal enrichment.

Thats great and all, just vote on what you can in August.

I respect the effort and dedication but this might as well be a change.org petition he’ll most definitely ignore and not give a 2nd thought. Absolutely no accountability at all levels of government has emboldened Marshall to give zero fucks what Kansans actually want or need.

All the ways this bill is specifically about ICE, not first responders:
• Recognizes ICE administrative warrants
• Provides civil immunity for officers in ICE agreements
• Requires state to pay certain judgments related to ICE cooperation
• Requires Kansas Attorney General to defend ICE-related lawsuits
• Mandates insurance coverage for enforcement of federal (including immigration) law
• Allows sheriffs to enter ICE 287(g) agreements without local approval
• Expands definition of law enforcement officer to include federal agents (including ICE)
• Extends liability protections to enforcement of federal law (including immigration)
- Authorizes detention based on ICE detainers
• Defines criteria for valid ICE detainers
• Requires providing detainees with ICE detainer notice and copy
• Requires notification to ICE of custody status
• Requires completion and return of ICE documentation
• Establishes conditions for release from ICE detainer holds

”This is not an ICE bill. But it sure got turned into one pretty quick,” said Rep. Tom Kessler, a Wichita Republican who made the motion to override Kelly’s veto. “This bill is about protecting our law enforcement officers and our first responders.”

This bill seems specially designed to make GOP lawmakers look like the good guy and set up anyone who opposes it to be the bad guy.
The bill caps property tax revenue at prior year revenue + inflation (CPI) + up to 3%. Who wouldn’t want this? GOP is looking pretty good, right?
Problem is, most local governments rely heavily on that tax revenue to fund public services, namely public schools.
So, the local government has the choice to increase the tax revenue above the set threshold. If/when they inevitably have to do so because, you know, schools need money, they are the bad guy and every property owner is pissed. Local government leaders not ok with underfunding public schools are looking pretty bad now, right?
This increase proposed by local government also triggers a new thing called “the protest petition system”.
This system sets up a petition to block the increase and only 10% of the voting population in the taxed district/area needs to sign this petition for it to immediately block additional increases. This is how the bill gives power to limit local government budgets to just 10% of voters.
How hard do you think it would be to find the 10% signatures from people who don’t understand how local governments are funded or simply don’t care because because all they see is “liberals are raising your property taxes”?
The protest petition blocks the proposed increase and forces the local government to operate on last year’s tax revenue budget.
GOP gets to say “hey, we kept your property taxes low” while leaving local governments twisting in the wind trying to figure out how to fund public services with a tax revenue shortfall.

Legalize marijuana in any form? Absolutely not! Gateway drugs that lead to hard addiction and increased crime have no place in Kansas. Won’t somebody think of the children!
as lawmakers [cut $16M](https://capitolbee.com/p/topeka-buzz-march-4-2026 from school mental health programs)
Extend access to alcohol to 23 hours a day? Why wouldnt we do this!?!? Nothing bad ever happens from alcohol consumption, especially at 4:00am. Won’t somebody think of the revenue stream children!
At least there were a few Republicans in the article with a little sense to question it.

He’s not changing his mind because his talking points aren’t even his. You’re right, though. He’ll say the exact opposite now because that’ll be the MAGA line to toe. His base won’t care because they’ve either forgotten his stance from last year or, more likely, never knew it in the first place. They’ll continue to vote for R, no matter how obvious the history of lies and flip-flops get.
o-lay-tha
Not saying he couldn’t/wouldn’t siphon some republican votes state-wide, but specifically Johnson County where the Dem candidate would receive the majority of their votes.
Personally, I think there are a lot more Dem voters in JoCo than Republicans looking for a MAGA alternative. Since this guy is supposedly more moderate than conservative, any COR members not entrenched in MAGA will blindly vote for him out of loyalty to their church alone, including those that would normally vote Dem.
o-lay-tha
His COR army will siphon enough votes in JoCo away from the Democrat candidate to help Marshall win again. He needs to run as Dem or get out of the way.
Repeatedly blocked Medicaid expansion.
Passed legislation (then championed the veto override) on election restrictions, making it harder for certain demographics to vote, largely to the advantage of the GOP.
Stripped the governors office of executive emergency powers because Kelly imposed masks during Covid.
Fully embraced the GOP culture war agenda during Covid that continues today. Efforts and energy spent here that could have actually gone towards serving Kansans.
Basically being a piece of shit leading the charge for legislation against most Kansan’sbest interest, focusing in favor of corporations and culture war division.
Ty Masterson picked up right where Sullentrop left off.
