This is the problem with centralized services. People should really consider moving their communities to freedom loving services like IRC or private teamspeak and vent servers. My overall impression of Discord is that it's moderated voice and text chat for children. The UI design is supporting evidence of that IMHO.

People always recommend public wifi because people are naturally lazy, careless, reckless and forgetful, so eventually a data leak could happen. But also be realistic about the protections you are putting in place. There's no need to trash your network interface every time you check your email, unless you're entertaining your super hacker fantasy or something :)
