First "serious" shoot; looking for professional feedback (old.reddit.com)

That is my understanding as well. I kept asking "where's the dp?" when OP froze about lighting.
pekalicious
I'd take 2cp over control any day of the week

Gimp is the best advertisement for photoshop

How is this footage both overexposed and underexposed?

Brigitte. I have never survived more than a few seconds. I just don't understand who is she strong against, where she has to be positioned, and the passive healing doesn't feel like I'm doing something. How is she still considered strong is beyond me.

- In a studio photoshoot with f9 and above, and in complete darkness because you shoot strobes, bbf is the way to go
- If you want to shoot and recompose, you only need to do it once
- Many many many many times autofocus will not guess what you are trying to focus
- Shooting a stationary product? You don't need to focus every shot
- You can configure two back buttons to behave differently: one for single shot center focusing, one for continuous tracking
- Old school street photography focused to infinity, so no need to focus when half pressed (not directly bbf, but related)
And many more
Of course, like many settings on your camera, you have to know when to use it and when not. There are instances where bbf might be detrimental. You don't have to be an absolutist.

Yeah, Al Capone was such a weird choice, but man was this one of my most guiltiest pleasure space opera. Very dumb but very fun. Kinda like Star Trek: Discovery

And if they like Rendezvous with Rama they'll like Ringworld
pekalicious
I don't know about that. Sounds like the path you took is entirely reasonable. It would be very unproductive to carry around a tripod for a 20lb camera and mount on a 6lb mirrorless.
pekalicious
Thank you for the kind words. Thank you for the composition tips! As well as the lights. Very very useful!
As for the verticals, indeed, I need to work on that.
pekalicious
Got it. Indeed it does have one. Thanks for the tip!
pekalicious
Great tip! I'll look into that.
pekalicious
You are correct. Those are the same room and they are graded very differently. I will fix that.
pekalicious
I definitely see that. A lot of the rooms where color coded based on their names: so the green one was the mint room for example. But even saying that, I see that the color isn't consistent across the photos. I will give it another go. Thanks for the feedback

I think my weakest point is leveling. Partly a skill issue but I also blame having a ball head, which was very frustrating to level for every shot.
pekalicious
Indeed I am using lens profile corrections. I definitely see what you mean and I tried to correct that effect even further with the distortion setting on Lightroom, but I could do a better job. Thanks for the feedback
pekalicious
Agreed that it is very important and I did my best, but I can see that I need to do better. I think I'm gonna switch off from a ballhead to a pan and tilt.
Question: is tilt shift used at all or are they only for the high budget cases?
pekalicious
I am using a tripod, but I am not a fan of the ballhead. I thought it was better but I find that I struggle to keep it level. I am bracketing, but only when there is a window. The colors are a little off because a) I guess I need to just be better and b) because they are color coded: they named them after ingredients and the walls slightly reflect that, for example one of them is mint green
The third wall suggestion is great! Thank you for that.

It's been 7 years since the last Oasis 3 and it is officially discontinued with no news in sight :/
pekalicious
I would be totally fine with it too if they made a new oasis, but they are killing off series that don’t have a replacement. There’s no Kindle with hw buttons anymore 🙁

I think we should distinguish cinematography, which includes photography/shot composition, and color grading, which is just the coloring of the film. I didn't have an issue with the photography, at times it was superb, but the color grading just threw me off.
I highly doubt that. After effects uses a timeline just like you do with edit page and even farlight. You drag and drop items as you would video and audio files. It is so much more intuitive.
