New one. OpenAI safety leader this time, not Anthropic researcher.

They are an autocratic regime, not evil incarnate. They will see 150 children in school killed differently in a first strike in an undeclared war then the death of their active political enemies wanting to end the regime by the regime.
Believe it or not, autocracies still want their general populace to live.
And this is a classic case of two wrongs don't make a right as well as whataboutism. Outside observers such as myself do not accept this kind of look over there, forget about the blood on my hands tactics. The USA looks about as bad as Iran here.
I don't even sympathize with Iran... far from it. This comment just so overtly projects a black and white understanding of the world that it belongs in /r/worldnews not /r/geopolitcs. Some granularity instead of propaganda please.

Me too.

Lemmy is a good one. Or Mastodon.
https://lemmy.world/ or a lot of other instances - they can see/list/users comment in not only the one they subbed in.

Well, that is a phenomenal idea actually. This new mathematics model will surely solve other similarly complicated mathematical problems now for sure, right? Not ones that other mathematicians input a years work into specifically. About which OpenAI says it "cannot rule out that de-identified data derived from their usage of our products helped improve our models."
Surely another complicated math problem's solution is coming from OpenAI. That would help.

The ones in power right now are coastal elite 4chan edgelords actually.

Tried to post that first, got autoremoved. Dunno why, maybe it's a paywalled site with a meter?
polymute
Say someone prompts an abliterated (ie uncensored) Kimi K3 with something bad. What than? Or someone gets around OpenAI's or Anthropic's safety guardrails? For smut they totally can, see /r/ClaudeAIJailbreak.
polymute
That is the point. If an agent is prompted and run by a person or a company, they should be responsible for it. Civil and criminal liability.

https://sovanews.tv/en/2026/08/20/media-russians-line-up-at-georgian-border-amid-mobilization-
Tens of thousands of Russians have decided to leave for Georgia amid rumors of a potential new wave of mobilization this autumn, reports The Moscow Times. The outlet cites Russia’s Federal Customs Service (FTS), which reported “record passenger traffic” at the Verkhny Lars border crossing.
The Moscow Times also references the Telegram channel Ostorozhno, Novosti, which circulated photos from the checkpoint: “A massive traffic jam has formed on the Russian side of the border, with cars moving at a speed of 50 meters per hour.”

Photos, video.
Very large amounts of unusual activity of interesting accounts in this post even for this sub. My read: Russia is probably going to in fact do a mobilization wave and so they have dialed up the propaganda efforts beforehand everywhere on social media.
Also: the general social fabric of the Russian middle class's bargain with the state is that the war does not reach said middle class and with smoke over Moscow and Petersburg and the local eBay not delivering and gas sometimes getting rationed that is hurting. That would also lead to the same.

It's already a pretty tight case. Though I think the WPR article covers it pretty well.

This kind of thing makes my blood boil.

Yeah there is certainly a lot of hypocrisy about... as well as a lot of closing of the barn door after the horses bolted. Though to be fair, Chinese AI is capable too and they are much less transparent then our society (even if the transparency is partly to hype the models).

I have actually just stumbled on this on Axios (very pro-AI hype site generally, I feel).
A coalition of more than 120 organizations, including Nvidia, Cisco and CrowdStrike, is proposing a new incident-reporting framework for AI agents that would require participating companies to disclose certain agent mishaps and preserve detailed records of what went wrong.
https://www.axios.com/2026/08/11/open-source-security-ai-agent-reporting
This is more about big players, but interesting still. As a starting point. They of course are self-interested, but then again, maybe that is the reasonable position to a degree with best practices used and mitigation always done on time.
The proposal isn't long actually either.

Got long, tldr below.
I don't think of it like that. I think of it like agency, capability and goal-orientation. AI needs only to be supplied with goals and misunderstand them. I'm not even accounting for an ablated Kimi K3 being used for hacking on purpose and that going wrong in an unintended way.
I'm just not comfortable with something that can be set in motion with the best of intent and then commit a crime by mistake. That is something that needs to be regulated.
The law of big numbers alone will guarantee that human/AI-agentic combined systems will cause harm and they will do harm even when a) the human part didn't intend to b) it is not quite knowable where the decision emerged, say in a complex and high-stakes human-in-the loop-situation like securities trading, war, etc.
And in a cybernetically interconnected world that can be quite a bit of harm.
And everyone is just coasting along blindly on hype and using the shiny new toys freely. And waving the danger away as either fake PR or doomerism.
This article has a clickbaity title for a national service provider like ABC is, I only posted it cause it's the primary source, and BBC even which covers it does not have a better title. That said. The lawyer in it has some interesting points about who is responsible in it. Because harm was caused to the gym corp. And it was done by someone. Or something.
It is not Skynet. It is a black box system but with good results 99.99 percent of the time. Only if there are millions of agents around, and there will be, then some of them - a tiny percentage, but not so tiny in number - will break things.
This is obviously not a Terminator scenario, that is reductio ad absurdum. And a category error. But intelligent pattern matching software that is programmed by humans can go wrong even when the intentions of the humans are followed.
Fuck this is a meandering comment. I'll have an LLM summarize it below.
TLDR in ~100 words: The AI risk we are addressing here isn’t about sentient "Skynet" scenarios; it’s about goal-oriented agency. Even with good human intentions, AI systems can misunderstand goals and inadvertently commit crimes or cause harm. Because these are "black box" systems, it’s often unclear where high-stakes decisions emerge. The law of large numbers guarantees that as millions of AI agents are deployed in complex environments including trading or warfare, unintended damages will inevitably occur. Currently, society is blinded by hype, dismissing valid concerns as doomerism or even fake PR. We need regulation to address the accountability gap—like who is responsible when an AI harms a business—before widespread deployment causes more harm.

Intentionality and harm need to be considered. If there is harm, that is something the legal system needs to handle. If it wasn't intentional on the prompter's behalf it is the illegally accessing a computer system equivalent of manslaughter to go for the easy if dramatic metaphor. If it was intentional than it is the murder equivalent.
Edit: On reflection I must add that white hat hacking is a thing too, though how that is handled I don't quite know as I'm not part of that word. But I'm not trying to create a legal code here, just give my thoughts.

My cat likes to snuggle herself likes this exactly - not in this heat though.

Yes they use facial recognition on anyone that goes in there.
That should be illegal. Other venues do this too. And that should be illegal as well.
Another story very similar to the one you were talking about: https://www.npr.org/2023/01/21/1150289272/facial-recognition-technology-madison-square-garden-law-new-york

He is Mojtaba Khamenei in reverse, lol. Maybe this is the new trend among rightwing politicians.

Another deflection, now spanning decades, unfounded. I provide links. What do you do? You try to muddy the water about Russian state sanctioned mass anal rape (Jesus ... writing that down) while claiming to be open to information.
I don't need this.
Very well. I don't know why I've tried to bother with you, unapologetic sexual abuse apologist that you are, in the face of facts. Which has been evident for more than a few comments now. Blocked.

Burchett has a bill too:
'We gotta ban these dadgum things:' Congressman criticizes Flock cameras, police respond
lol
But this is a broken clock is right twice a day thing. He is another Freedom Caucus nut. One does take what one can get though.
Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) introduced a bill that would ban the federal purchasing and federal funding of Flock cameras, which he calls “unconstitutional."
Wow looked it up, not even Freedom Caucus, though votes with them often. Similar ideology though. The fuck can't the progressives introduce a bill like this? Ro Khanna worked with Massie on the Epstein bill, he ought to be here.
Edit: my bad. There was a bill in May. Chuy Garcia (D) and Scott Perry (R) tried it. https://www.wired.com/story/a-bipartisan-amendment-would-end-police-license-plate-tracking-nationwide/ It was killed off by Congress. https://ipvm.com/reports/bipartisan-alpr-amendment-killed
OK enough politics.
There you go, doing it live. And not even in a coherent way. You are lumpin me, who you know was born in the Warsaw Pact under Soviet military occupation (because we had this debate, of course we already had this debate you are pretending not to have had) with Le Pen, Erasmus, Ulf Kristersson, Friedrich Merz, Churchill, Hitler, Lenin, Marx, Orbán, Pedro Sanchez, my cousin who's politics are the opposite of mine, haéf the Nobel Prize winners, Nazi Germany's generals, professors at Cambridge and Talinn and Kassel as well as jobless drunks (some Turkish-German) in a pub in say Hamburg, Newton and Leibnitz, the people of the banlieus, the people living in old money mansions in the Swiss Alps, Vladimir Putin, dock workers in Rotterdam, the butchers of Bucha, any boring accountant in a Warsaw office, etc etc etc.
Are you not aware of how .... for the lack of better term impoverished in thinking that is? Bigotry, prejudice, these are the polite terms for that kind of malicious oversimplification and wink wink nudge nudge pointing at something bad that some subset of 500 million+ people do as a general trait for all.
What even ... orcs? Your 'debating style' here reminds me of the first part of this quote.
