Compared to a dui (or the guilt of hurting someone else) a lifetime of cabs and ubers are CHEAP! If someone else is driving the party doesn't have to stop. Wishing everyone a toasty safe holiday this season!

polyrhythmic

Awesome! I will have to try that. Many thanks!!

polyrhythmic

What, no recipe? Are you having it straight or with a mixer. Details, man!!

polyrhythmic

Thanks! Haven't seen that trick before. Looks like this is the public original source.

polyrhythmic

Way cool! Do you know the source of this image? Tineye comes up with nothing.

Here is a good free ebook wiki resource:

Great comment. Thanks for the in-depth analysis, please continue dropping theory knowledge in this subreddit!

Just listening doesn't really cut it, and song analysis programs are often wrong. Most people can learn to recognize harmonies and intervals by ear but it takes a good bit of practice. Unfortunately a few people are actually tone deaf. They can still usually learn rhythm though, which is equally as important.

There are many music theory resources on the net. Best thing to do is to sit down with a piano (virtual or not) and learn to recognize intervals and the different sounds of major and minor. Then you can get into triads/chords and from there progressions. Most musicians don't have perfect pitch but can recognize different types of dischordance once they have the tools.

Programs like mixed in key give a false sense of security to DJs -- no one in the music world uses that number scale or makes chord changes in that style. But solfege (do re mi) is standard and very easy to learn. So is the roman numeral notation for chords in a key (I-IV-V). Once you know more about music theory, you'll learn that mixed in key charts are not as important as 'does it sound good?'

Nordstrom chooses not to spend money on marketing and instead lets their service do the marketing for them. As a former employee I can say these situations are not uncommon. Unfortunately in the down economy they have lost sales to other companies who would rather provide heavily-marketed rock-bottom prices and non-existent service. I applaud their commitment to good service and hope that will continue to carry them through.

No problem. The concept is much older than linked Issue 2142.

A more verbose explanation on StackOverflow

It's not a contradiction. Any convention you are using now to have private props/methods in JS also works in Coffee. There is a ton of discussion on this already existing.

Having dealt with all kinds of JS inheritance and class structure, it is a godsend to be able to read someone else's Coffee code and not have to discover which pattern they are using in a particular project. Private, public, class, and instance vars & methods are instantly obvious from the syntax. Transforming data is more clear due to the comprehensions and expression-centric style.

The project I'm on right now has ~8K LOC Coffee compiling to ~14K LOC JS. The word & character count are double in JS. No linting necessary. I'm not sure what else in JS I could do to comparably increase productivity.

polyrhythmic

It is built into CoffeeScript as ?. aka the Elvis Operator. Definitely a useful concept.

polyrhythmic

"CoffeeScript is just JavaScript" so your issues with private props/methods are no different than they are in vanilla JS. To write quality CoffeeScript requires a very good understanding of how JS works. Understanding its functional programming abilities requires a subset of knowledge that most JS devs don't encounter. It's not laziness, it's efficiency.

polyrhythmic

It literally adds functionality, there are several functional programming tools (like list comprehensions) that simply don't exist in vanilla JS. If you want typing in Coffee there is Coffee.contracts. And it's certainly possible to build modular Coffee classes with private variables and methods. Most of what people don't like about CoffeeScript is due to misconceptions.

polyrhythmic

Yep. You either get it and are making money faster or you're holding onto old JS conventions for the sake of tradition. The FP tools in Coffee are invaluable. I only wish I had switched sooner.

On top of that, Iced CoffeeScript is even better than plain. Serious life-changing dev experience.

polyrhythmic

There's another way to do this. It's called the pitch slider. Don't even have to download anything.

I have done yoga, dance, pilates, gymnastics... That is exactly cardio: high reps of low to mid intensity workout. Much different than weightlifting. There are ways to leverage bodyweight to good effect, but you have to go full gymnast with rings/bars/planches to get anywhere near the same effect as heavy weightlifting.

polyrhythmic

Pilates is mostly cardio, so sorry it is not the same. There is no substitute for weightlifting, although body weight exercises are more effective than running.

My recommendations for girls is to lift heavy things. My gf likes lifting because it's so efficient. She sees a lot of results for the time she puts in. Pilates will help burn the fat in between weightlifting.

Great idea. I suggest US day/morning as we're most likely to hit North America/South America/Europe/ at a reasonable time also. Unless I've underestimated our far east contingent.

polyrhythmic

Sync is so useful!!! But beatmatching teaches a musical skill!!! We should be too busy innovating to care who is using the sync button or how for what!! Can this argument be dead yet?!?

Someone who just wants to hear quality djing

polyrhythmic

If you DJs spent as much time mixing tunes as you do shit talking this subreddit might actually get some content. 100 upvotes for twitter drivel is rather pathetic.

polyrhythmic

Rhythm is a very important part of music. Any decent turntablist creates complex rhythms in their routine that don't exist in other forms of DJing. If you can't appreciate the muscality, you are just more ignorant about music than you think. Drop the ego and learn some more music theory.

polyrhythmic

require.js is usable right now. There are many existing frameworks which already address these concerns -- Spine, Backbone, etc. I'm not sure you'll get a distinct advantage from rolling your own. Even if you feel your project is a 'special case', it's likely a framework will address most of your needs and can be extended to fit.

polyrhythmic

You would have to add in a line which uses a tagreading tool to check the bitrate. Windows can read bitrates but idk if they expose that capability to the command line. Regardless the iTunes solution posted is much more flexible.

In Linux or Mac though it would be a very simple bash script.

polyrhythmic

You forgot to mention: windows or mac? I assume it's not Linux because then you'd already know how to script it.
