Keep it personal. Honestly almost every single item on this sub is just AI Slop. Not to say its bad, just that realistically you aren't gonna be able to offer the level of support, compatibility and polish a paying customer is expecting for a fully vibe coded thing.

I make loads of bits, useful and silly things for my family and friends. Nothing wrong with it, but I dont think itsd worth the headache of "releasing" something.

Plus it costs money to publish officially, so you would just lose money. Keep it fun and cheap and just do things you enjoy doing I'd say

Most people just used an ORM and made it the frameworks problem.

Unless you have absolutely mammoth data, I am yet to see even "bad" frameworks like Entity Framework do anything overly damaging that can't be fixed with a few indexes here and there.

But yeah, there is a reason the DBA job exists. Even with AI this is still needed

I don't mind storing our patio gas in the shed but I've never thought about our camp stove bottles. Our shed gets incredibly hot and know they should be fine but storing those c500 cans there never seems right in my head!

Someone please tell me they store them in almost direct sun to convince me it's fine!

If it's just you, just get a case of water next shop. Didn't take up a ton of room, we keep it JIC our water goes off for a cuppa as had issues locally on and off. The 3l a day a person advice is good but you don't need that if it's just you, just ration it a little and don't rely on it for cooking and you're fine with less

I actually prefer our small battery (rechargeable) dab. Battery lasts ages, quality is decent enough for camping too, and can charge off a power bank or cheap solar charger if really needed. Wind up ones are usually cheap in almost every component

This. anyone can build anything, but the real issues are the mundane. Moderation (and I don't mean just calling the moderation completions API), compliance, legal, and more. Then there is scaling, lets say just 1% of discord migrated to you in 24hr, you would be tens of thousands in the hole for cloud billing!

Coding was never the hard part, we've just shortened the time.

Maybe branch specific, my Lloyds are fine with whatever. They only once asked me to fill out a form for the next money delivery as it was later in the day. I'm going in again soon so hopefully not changed!

Analog entertainment. Board games, books, etc. have enough of it that the kids (and adults ) aren't bored. Also kind of make it a bit of regular life too as digital lifestyle is killing people's attention and creativity, good to have switch off time in general plus this way you won't get moans and groans cracking out a board game during a power cut!

ponytoaster

In chat mode its still good advice in a way, no other way to really stop them responding verbosely. The free models are worse for this.

Still works, even if you can do it less verbosely, but good to keep verbosity incase its a lesser model

I had a mesh network (multiple routers of the Deco brand) and one of them had a minor defect where one of the wired ports wasn't forwarding things on correctly to the Xbox. So when the Xbox requested an IP address the router just told it to go away basically.

Most the time this can be solved with simply resetting things, or making sure Xbox is set to auto but in my case my network setup meant it was a PITA to do that.

I still occasionally get weird connection issues on first attempt and I am convinced it's the Xbox negotiating the ports it needs for Xbox live!

I plugged my Xbox into a different port and it "worked".

I love this tool and whilst there are alternatives I would love to hear peoples thoughts, FB was great for shoving inside an existing docker container to allow us to expose a couple of shared folders on the system without relying on mounts - What are people suggesting as a replacement?

ponytoaster

Often the other way around too, we can have window units as we have modern UPVC windows which aren't the usually sash type so not a starter for many

ponytoaster

I have this exact same issue suddenly.

Bluetooth is ok, wired is ok. Firmware updated too.

Refuses to connect to the 2.4 receiver! Tried everything from resets, combo presses and nothing seems to work

ponytoaster

At least the former were somewhat searchable though. Discord can't really be used outside the app and even then search is limited and eventually things just cease to exist.

ponytoaster

They will also (or did) replace parts free or incredibly cheap too

Shopping list is a good one for sure, kids loved "playing" that even without playing the actual rules and just matching things.

This is an old post but I also just stumbled across this when validating something, and I agree.

I have had my Mobo replaced, screen replaced, it collects dust, to the point i have to do a teardown and clean it down constantly. It also runs at like 95-100 degrees all the time.

Battery is awful as you say.

The only advantage is their warranty and on-site repair, mainly as you will need it.

ponytoaster

and there is way much more than people expect too, not just catchup.

Often random films, and lots of box sets on there too.

ponytoaster

Depends on the kid too though, I've still got some lazy as fuck friends who barely work and just game all day on benefits. They believe they need to be doing something they enjoy rather than just taking a job so they missed the boat and are now unemployable.

Force their hand is the only way really for some.

ponytoaster

For me it depends on context.

Did I walk there? Am I taking something there? Do I need the contents of the bag for sure?

I often go for walks with just the items on my person (phone, headphones, glasses) and can do without a drink/snack/whatever for an hour or so. If I was going longer distance I'd take my bag with bits.

Likewise if I'm going to a friend's, unless I'm taking something specific there I won't take a bag as they have everything there.

I used to edc more but you realise you just lug around crap. We still have an out and about bag for going out with kids more than an hour with snacks, first aid etc but that usually lives in the car unless we are physically distancing ourselves from the car like a trail, or whatever.

End of the day who cares though, if you have a need or just simply want to, then carry that bag!

Honestly some of the best dev we hired struggled with specific deep dive questions, luckily we are used to it so ask in examples and scenarios but sadly many don't.

Sell yourself and if you think you don't know the exact terminology just be open about it and talk about examples that apply

Main rule of an interview is to control the conversation as much as possible, less chance for boring formal questions!

I can only imagine serious crunching of data, or slop.

My entire teams bill is less than this and its being used from everything from Analysis, Data crunching, UX Slop, CopIlot led development, infra, all sorts.

I genuinely cannot fathom how people can rack this much up unless they are just using it "because"!

ponytoaster

I mean if you think about the value its still quite good from a business POV. We hammer CoPilot and don't get costs like this per person. Even at 1k a month if the user was doing 10x the work its still a ROI.

The issue with most these posts is people have likely used it for literally everything under the fixed cost model, knowing it would change eventually. Fixed price was never going to be permanent.

ponytoaster

Given Anthropic are also struggling with compute and many other things, they will most likely raise prices or alter limits for sure. They couldn't manage if everyone suddenly went to Claude in a BYOK scenario.

ponytoaster

Upsettingly the standard dashboard for usage no longer works, it just caps at 100% (enterprise user). We can get stats at admin level but I like knowing how much I am wasting company money and was going for a new record!

ponytoaster

The biggest issue here isn't even residential vehicles, it's trucks. Most trucks and coaches etc are adblue spec these days if they are designed for going near cities, meaning general supply chain disruption.
