If NUNS manages to solve the fold quartz scarcity issue with ultra purified fold carbon, the YF-29 would likely go into limited production to replace the VF-22 as the ride of choice for special ops units like VF-X squadrons. Otherwise the number of YF-29s able to be produced is directly limited by having access to Protoculture ruins to salvage from or scavenging Varja nests.

Of course, for all we know the Frontier colony is sitting on massive deposits of fold quartz left behind on the Varja homeworld, though I doubt the New UN Government on Earth would be very happy about it considering what they did to Windemere to try to control the Protoculture ruins there...

Ironically, this incident was a major contributor to the VF-19's failure to truly replace the VF-11 as the next main variable fighter for the UN (later New UN) Spacy.

While the ability to use a fighter-scale fold booster to get behind enemy defensive lines to make a precision strike against high-value targets was one of the goals of Project Super Nova, the fact that Isamu and Guld managed to pull it off against not just a fleet but Earth's own planetary defense grid made some of the leadership consider the real threat of anti-UN forces getting their hands on such capable variable fighters to repeat the feat.

Therefore on top of the Excalibur's high price and notoriously difficult handling, the export restrictions placed on the design specs to reduce the unit's performance and limit technological advances outside of the UN Spacy made the VF-19 very unattractive to colonies and emigration fleets looking to replace their aging VF-11 stock.

Then General Galaxy would come in with their retooled "Special Forces fighter for everyone" VF-171 Nightmare Plus variable fighters and AIF-7 Ghost drones, completely sweeping the market out from under Shinsei Industry and make their "win" (by default) of Project Super Nova completely moot.

Just the consideration that if in the future you ever decided to go with a SlimLink solution (bike/moto mounts, RAM mounts, mobile creator kit) you would need to add the Universal Adaptor to a non-SlimLink case.

However, a Peak Design case with SlimLink built in does not interfere at all with MagSafe-only connections, so you get the best of both worlds.

Gonna go with (3). SMS seems to be a lot less rigid than NUNS (given Catherine's culture shock moments after joining the Quarter's bridge crew), so they probably have regular company movie nights hosted by Bobby or even Capt. Wilder himself.

If there's one thing I wish the Outdoor Backpacks had, it's Cord Hook rails on the interior of the main volume and 2-3 dividers/shelves that could be hooked into them to give us some options for fixing gear in place inside the bags.

Dude saw the opportunity to catch the biggest wave and took it. Can't blame him at all.

Max was already a teenage beast in the original Valkyries and he was a monster in the Sturmvogel during his Macross 7 days.

Now at age seventy friggin four he's literally dancing around the battlespace and doing the one man army thing and cleaning house in a rare Durandal so Delta Flight and their hackjob Kairos Pluses (rip) don't get immediately murked by those AI controlled Vivasvats.

r4nd0mf4ct0r

That wasn't the Quarter, that was the Macross Gigasion. Same type of variable space carrier as the Macross Elysion. Probably big contributor to Chaos always being so broke if they're fielding multiple capital ships of this type.

Over twice as tall as the Quarter-types used by SMS, but smaller than the NUNS' Battle-types like he commanded with the Macross 7 fleet. And that madman still flies it like a fighter.

r4nd0mf4ct0r

Probably referring to Hoshijiro, who died early on but her influence permeates the entire story from then on.

r4nd0mf4ct0r

Yep, this is a much more cost-effective strategy.

Each already hard-to-hit drone is already capable of delivering 4 anti-ship reaction missiles. Then you scale it up to a swarm of drones each with a quartet of reaction missiles. And the most brilliant part — the drones can be recalled and rearmed for even more reaction missiles!

No sense in wasting all those valuable components (engines/reactors, RCS thrusters, fuel/propellant, sensors for the AI control, etc etc) on a single-use munition. Leave all the expensive stuff on the delivery platform, and use it over and over and over again to deliver more boom.

Legion don't need to wait a month to re-occupy the zone though. Reserve units can move in almost immediately and then the humans are back at square one, but now with any cover or emplacements against the Legion heavily damaged/destroyed.

r4nd0mf4ct0r

The problem is that the Legion doesn't need to wait a year for the radiation to subside, replacement Legion units can be deployed to occupy the region during the time period where it's too hazardous to hold it with human forces.

I do on occasion, but sometimes it's awkward to manipulate the thumb screw because the flanges are right up against my stem bracket.

A quick release cam lever would solve that.

Revenue =/= Profit unfortunately. PD's probably only seeing maybe 10-15mil of profit on a good year after operating expenditures, and it has not been a good last few years with this economy. With no shareholders or institutional investors, kickstarters give them a CapEx infusion when they need to spin up the logistics of new production lines which aren't getting any cheaper as the years go on.

Probably doesn't help at all that sometimes a product is almost too good. Take your travel tripod example, sure they got a few hundred bucks out of me when it first came out, but they haven't gotten me to spend on another tripod in the last seven years because travel tripod suits all my requirements. They even lost a hundred-ish bucks when they sent me an entire leg unit under warranty when a single lever cracked.

Even if I've convinced a few other people to look into getting travel tripods of their own, that's not a sustainable long-term income stream for a company especially now that competitors have caught up. PD has to risk branching out to bring in new revenue through broader market segments or else they simply won't have the funds to go back and work on improving previous stuff.

You keep gloating like that I'll glue your sprout back on, youngster.

Ordered from PD direct or from 3rd party like Amazon?

Alright, I’m gonna try to step away from the brand tribalism for a bit here. Yes, you’re on a Peak Design subreddit and you aren’t using any Peak Design products in your setup, but you came to us for advice so here we go.

Typically, you don’t see camera clips attached to the non-padded bare webbing parts of shoulder straps because 1) most clips rely on the padding to provide stability and structure (keeps the mounted camera from tilting down from the weight) and 2) it would interfere with strap length adjusters by preventing the adjuster from sliding up the webbing.

Peak Design’s first product was the original Capture camera clip from which your Falcam clip drew its inspiration from (I’m not going to say copied because the Falcam genuinely has some decent design innovations of its own), so when PD expanded into bags they were designed with Capture compatibility in mind. As such, all of the shoulder bags in PD’s Everyday lineup (Messenger and Slings) have a padded slot on the bag body itself to accommodate Capture or another brand’s camera clip instead of trying to mount it on the strap, so that's how we get it to work in our ecosystem.

I can’t say if it was an oversight or a purposeful decision to not have a camera clip mounting solution on the Nomantic/McKinnon bags, but they don’t make camera clips and Falcam/Ulanzi doesn't make camera bags, so can’t really fault either of them for not working together perfectly.

Now the Falcam F38’s slimmer attachment mechanism compared to the Peak Design Capture screw clamps actually hurts it here in your use scenario — your McKinnon messenger just doesn’t have enough material on the bare webbing for the Falcam to grab onto and hold with any stability. You’re gonna need to mod the McKinnon’s strap to bulk it up a little to create a place for the Falcam to sit.

Per the Ulanzi product page, the Falcam F38 needs a strap to be at least 2mm thick for it to work, so try making a pad from folded paper or cardboard that fits between the body and the webbing strap. You can go as thick as 20mm per the specs, but the pad will cover the rubberized grip on the back of the clip body, so wrap some rubber bands around the pad to restore grip and give the clip something to work with.

If this makes the clip too floppy (because the webbing strap is so thin unlike the padded section) you could also try searching on Amazon for shoulder pads for straps. These typically wrap around an unpadded strap with velcro or have slots for threading a strap through, but since they’re not permanently attached you could position one of these where you want your Falcam to sit on the McKinnon strap and clamp it down with the clip. Depending on the pad design you may need to either sew it or pin it to the strap somehow to keep it from sliding under the camera’s weight when it’s mounted.

Otherwise… you could just treat your bag like a camera holster and leave it unzipped (holding it closed using that hook and shock cord feature) when you’re in shooting mode. I’ll admit there’s a lot of times where I much prefer to drop my camera back in my bag than keep it on my chest, especially if I’m shooting out of a sling where it’s all on my hip anyway. I also find it much easier to get the camera out of the way when I need it gone, and it’s way less of a hassle to take the bag off (say sitting at a restaurant or getting on the bus) when I don’t have a camera to detach from a shoulder strap.

Sorry us PD peeps aren’t being more helpful. Hope you find a solution that suits your workflow!

You want Gloval when absolutely anything and everything has gone completely off the rails but will still keep his shit together and get everyone home.

Wilder might be a bit of a rogue, but you know he'll do what's right and fly his own flag when conventional thinking breaks down, and he'll be right there with you when the seas get rough.

Jenius learned from the best (Gloval) and wrote the book on being a Valkyrie pilot. You can trust that he's no armchair strategist, and when you need him the most he'll be out in the Blue leading from the front.

Johnson... well, he tried.

r4nd0mf4ct0r

They put Max in the captain's chair to nerf him so he doesn't outshine the main characters.

Well, they tried anyway.

r4nd0mf4ct0r

It wasn't so much a defect but rather the first few batches of the clips had weaker retention force because they were still trying to balance holding power with ease of extracting the tool.

They've said they increased the holding power with later production runs, but I'm not sure when that changeover happened. My clip was from the kickstarter run, so instead of waiting for a replacement I just wrapped the upper part with a thin strip of gaffer's tape to increase thickness of the part that actually holds the tool in the clip.

It works fine this way, but I realized that I don't really need to have the tool on me at all times and since I was already using the tripod's carry case anyway I just put the tool back in its original pocket.

r4nd0mf4ct0r

Ok, but the bedroom fight in the Total Recall reboot had its moments.

I mean, who hasn't dreamed of Kate Bekinsdale tackling you into bed and sitting on your face in the same move before?

Okay, then her immediately trying to punch my face in isn't really part of the want, but still!

r4nd0mf4ct0r

"My shame knows no bounds"

r4nd0mf4ct0r

Really wish they had designated the PFAS free products as V2.x, cause this is gonna cause all sorts of confusion when the third itineration of the Everyday Line comes to market.

Way back when the Travel Tripod was still a kickstarter project some seven years ago now, the original design intention was for the hex tool to be stored in the hidden pocket of the included carry case (the one with the hexagon label tag, where the bushing removal tool now typically lives), but they got a lot of feedback very early in the project from backers that they should find a way to store the tool directly on the tripod because not everyone will choose to utilize the carry case.

The design and manufacturing tooling was already too far along to come up with an internal storage solution, so they designed and included the leg clip as a solution. Not perfect, but usable for many (though apparently not all) users. Still, the feedback was heard and implemented in their next tripod iteration, so the center column of the Pro Tripods can accommodate either the included tool or the (now optional) phone holder like you suggest.

It's almost certain that a hypothetical future v2 of Travel Tripod will include much of the feedback and innovations that were implemented into Pro Tripod like the internalized tool storage feature, but we consumers don't know where that lies on their product roadmap right now.

Personally, I've never had a problem with losing the included tool. I actually use the storage case (it makes a great tripod scabbard when belt worn or strapped under an everyday sling) so I usually keep the tool in the hidden pocket and not on the tripod leg, and I also have an Anchor attached and the red makes it more visible — I've heard of other people using a hi-vis or reflective ribbon or even a strand of glow in the dark microcord. Some people just put it on their keyring too.

What would be cool though is if the v2 Travel Tripod is still far off, maybe make a v2 of the tool itself that's a scaled down version of the Pro Tripod's tool that can fit in the v1 Travel Tripod's center column.

All PD cases have serial numbers that PD can flag as being warrantied out and ineligible for additional replacement.

The Slim Wallet does not have a serial number, hence PD support's apparent policy to ask for proof of destruction to warranty it out.

https://www.peakdesign.com/pages/faq?a=Finding-Your-Serial-Number-or-QC-Number-Mobile-Phone-Cases-and-Accessories---id--IC79wwSQTj2vBp-hwHnk9Q

Now, that being said it is totally their call to ask for proof of destruction BEFORE shipping out a no-cost-to-consumer replacement product. They could absolutely do it a different way, like shipping a replacement immediately and then asking to send proof of destruction afterwards (putting total trust in the customer that they won't just sell/give away the faulty wallet to someone else who might then also ask for a warranty replacement), or they could charge for the replacement unit first and then refund it once proof the faulty one has been destroyed is sent (and incurring merchant transaction fees in the process).

Warranty policies, especially generous ones like PD's lifetime warranty, are typically written the way they are because of the not-insignificant amount of abuse a company has experienced in the past from less-than-honest consumers taking advantage of it. If people don't like it, they can blame those who ruined it for the rest of us and/or they can take their business elsewhere.
