The holdout beat his wife … and has an active restraining order against him.

That is sort of his advantage though to judge the violence.

For him violence is an immediate and known quantity. When hearing about the killings, he envisioned what it would take to brutally murder 3 children, how much force it would take, the anger one would feel. Hence his reenactment with the water bottle. The world of that juror is probably a physical one. So the heinousness, the hot rage or cold-bloodedness, the brutal violence of strangling takes on an immediate form. Also as a black man societal rules seem unbending and strict; one does not get away with murder generally.

For the white female juror and LC supporters, the world seems to take shape more in a form of social relations, of saying the right thing, of empathizing and to be less charitable, of "luxury beliefs". The concept of a sociopathic or evil woman does not exist; society or her spouse must have done her wrong. The act of violence is far removed from subjective experience, at least physical violence. The law need not be unbending and strict, as we need to take the rights of the victim into account. The children are not perceived to be people deprived brutally of their right to life, but have been likened to "vases" being smashed during a tantrum.

Wieso hast du dann keine harmlosere Partei gewählt anstatt die Nazikeule zu schwingen? "Linkspartei Unternehmerflügel" war dir nicht edgy genug?

Isnt it reversed with 4 against 1? Not that being alone on the ocean with 4 crazy bitches is really dangerous, but … think of the implication!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007_Boston_Mooninite_panic

On the morning of January 31, 2007, the Boston Police Department and the Boston Fire Department mistakenly identified battery-powered LED placards depicting the Mooninites, characters from the Adult Swim animated television series Aqua Teen Hunger Force, as improvised explosive devices (IEDs), leading to a massive panic.

Authorities responded with what the Boston Globe described as "[an] army of emergency vehicles" at the scene, including police cruisers, fire trucks, ambulances, and the Boston Police Department bomb squad. Also present were live TV crews, a large crowd of onlookers, and helicopters circling overhead. Boston police shut down the northbound side of I-93 and parts of the public transportation system. Just after 10 a.m., the bomb squad used a small explosive filled with water to destroy the device as a precaution. MBTA Transit police Lieutenant Salvatore Venturelli told the media at the scene, "This is a perfect example of our passengers taking part in homeland security."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boston_Marathon_bombing

The Boston Marathon bombing was an Islamist domestic terrorist attack that took place during the 117th annual Boston Marathon on April 15, 2013. Brothers Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev planted two homemade pressure cooker bombs that detonated near the finish line of the race 14 seconds and 210 yards (190 m) apart. Three people were killed and hundreds injured, including 12 victims who lost limbs.

During the manhunt for the perpetrators of the bombing, Governor Deval Patrick said "we are asking people to shelter in place". The request was highly effective; most people stayed home, causing Boston, Watertown, and Cambridge to come to a virtual standstill. According to Time magazine, "media described residents complying with a 'lockdown order,' but in reality the governor's security measure was a request". The National Lawyers Guild and some news outlets questioned the constitutionality of the door-to-door searches conducted by law enforcement officers looking for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

Only for him to come out and say it was a troll.

Sorry, this specific criticism of hyper loop is a pet peeve of mine: this never happened. At least I think you allude to the idea Elon Musk is responsible for derailing Californias high speed train build out? Sadly the golden state is responsible for that alone.

You have to remember this all went down in seconds and Renee was a soccer mom not a battle hardened vet.

She & her wife followed the ICE agents around to confront/impede them. You can see in the many videos her dancing on the steering wheel while honking and generally gleeful about this adventure. If you say she panicked because of she feared being kidnapped this is certainly an argument, but I don’t believe you truly believe that. In my honest opinion she accelerated because she expected to get away with it, the thrill of tricking out the police, and her wife riling her up with “drive baby drive”.

Make no mistake, I am not saying she deserved to die or that this was a good shoot. But the hyper-partisan way in which the many videos are seen and interpreted, like people are watching two different movies makes one cynical.

The fatality on Jan 6th was an unarmed woman (Ashli Babbitt) being shot by a (trigger happy) capitol police officer because she was opposing what she considered an illegitimate government action. Liberals cold heartedly argued this is what happens when you Fuck Around while conservatives argued she was righteously Resisting (TM) and a MAGA martyr.

Today the players are the same but the jerseys are flipped. Liberals cry tears of empathy for the shot woman in the car while conservatives argue they were obstructing a legitimate state function and put the (trigger happy) officer in danger and this is what happens when you Fuck Around.

In broad strokes it's clear neither side cares about democracy or rule of law per se. Conservative faith in rule of law evaporates when it says no to Trump and liberal empathy for the scrappy civil disobedients dries up when it's a Chud. Both sides are happy with mob violence when it's their side doing it and cry tyranny whenever they Find Out.

Off topic, but IQ is one of the best-studied ideas in psychology

https://www.vox.com/the-big-idea/2017/10/23/16516516/iq-tests-high-low-achievement-sat-anxiety-determinism

The past few years have seen an important shift in popular understanding of IQ. Dismissive slogans like “IQ just measures how well you take tests” have been replaced by a growing understanding of how IQ is real, partially hereditary, and predictive of important life outcomes.

IQ denialism seems to be going the same way as climate denialism — complete with overwhelming scientific consensus on one side — and it’s about time. But people’s concerns about this subject are understandable.

But luck would have it that I’d been spending the past few days watching videos about conservatism, trying to understand what it really is, what it’s like to live in that worldview. For research. And something had shifted in me. I could see what he was really speaking to, a world of clear hierarchies, simple structures, nice and tidy predefined roles. The appeal of not having to figure everything out yourself. Of someone just telling you what to do.

I guess this paragraph was included to signal to the reader “dont worry, I am a good lefty like you“

It is important to understand that he gets stock shares (his ownership increases). Which is not funded by stock buybacks but just printing new shares. That will dilute the ownership of existing stock owners, but it doesn't cost money or harms profits.

I find it difficult to believe that Tesla is generating this much in sales and value.

Which is why the compensation plan was passed. If Tesla misses the milestones? Great, Elon worked for free. Tesla passes the unreachable milestones? 7 trillion in shareholder value was created and they won't complain about his cut.

The final milestones are kinda steep: a million robotaxis on the streets, a million Optimus robots sold, a market capitalization of 8 trillion (almost 8 fold increase).

The trillion headlines also obfuscate the details of the lower milestones. If Elon only gets the lowest milestone as payout this will still be worth billions, which will both generate comments "haha the dofus failed to reach his performance goals" but is fantastic CEO pay (maybe small change for him. But a billion here, a billion there, and sooner or later we talk about real money).

This insinuates that the audience of one was Donald Trump? Maybe, but I doubt he reads 60 page documents. From Bergers article about the topic:

Isaacman with a small team made super ambitious plans “achieving the near impossible”. This is the original hundreds pages document. After losing the nomination he distilled this to the 60 page Athena document and gave it only to Duffy as his successor. That makes sense if Isaacman is a true believer in space development and thinks his ideas should be read by the next NASA administrator. Instead it is used as weapon against Isaacman when his Nomination resurfaces:

https://arstechnica.com/space/2025/11/capitol-hill-is-abuzz-with-talk-of-the-athena-plan-for-nasa/

Isaacman’s nomination was pulled in late May, largely for political reasons. Trump then appointed his Secretary of Transportation, Sean Duffy, to oversee NASA on an interim basis in early July. As a courtesy, in August, Isaacman’s team edited a shorter version of the plan down to 62 pages and gave a copy to Duffy and his chief of staff, Pete Meachum. According to sources, these were the only copies of the pared-down Athena plan distributed, so the initial leak came from either Duffy, Meachum, or someone acting on their behalf several weeks ago.

In recent weeks, Duffy has been building ties with the space industry, trying to paint Isaacman as someone who would come in and force big changes on NASA and its traditional space contractors.

Do you have a link to the thread? What were the answers? Do philosophers lean socialist and why?

Jared was a SpaceX customer, not employee. Elon worked for Jared, not the other way around.

Good way to think about it.

“Is this going to have a big effect on our business model? No, because we did not develop this product for the Indian market, let’s be honest. We developed this product for Western patients who can afford this product, quite honestly. It is an expensive product, being an oncology product.

As an aside I don’t think a western company can price match a generic manufacturer in India.

I kind of agree with you. Covering Starship „full time“ is a nice hobby, but if he doesnt have a modest $2000 for vital car repairs he needs for his real job of lyft/uber, then he should reevaluate his priorities. Of course it is nice that the community helps him now, but this doesnt sound like a good career or even sustainable situation.

I don't know why this is, but in my experience, most women don't like guys who smile in their pictures too much.

Interesting, when men are asking for a profile check on r/tinder it is more often the case that they don’t smile enough.

Now he is just giving ammunition to groups who wish to disparage his company.

Who cares about that? I prefer Elon/SpaceX being open and talking about issues.

Fascist parties would end democracy in a coup. The new right governments like the current Italian government are nationalistic, but better categorized as post-fascist as they are non-totalitarian:

Maybe cheap Aldi bread. But any self respecting German would buy real bread in the bakery at the corner were it costs $4 - $5.

Be cautious about selection bias! No one made famous songs about the many successful company towns in American history.

For example Corning, New York, is an affluent town dominated by the Corning glass company. And Hershey, Pennsylvania, was build by the chocolate company to be "a perfect American town for healthy and well-paid workers" with lots of amenities like free schools and a zoo.

Sweetest place on Earth:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5f675t1A0Eg

The economist had a recent article:

https://archive.is/btXQA

Being the boss of a big firm in a small town is likely to change the way that decisions are made. If the consequences of corporate decisions affect your neighbours, friends and family members, the incentives to make more considered choices are sharper. There is proxy evidence for this in research into the decision-making of hometown CEOs, who are likely to have a greater attachment to the place where their company is located and more concern for their local reputation. Studies show that hometown bosses are less likely to cut research-and-development budgets in response to short-term pressures or to take corporate risks in the form of, say, greater leverage. Whether that sounds like long-termism or timidity depends partly on your point of view.

Company towns can seem strange—cultish, even—to outsiders. God only knows what it is like to live in Billund if you don’t like Lego or Corning if you’re not a fan of glass. But their persistence is not just an accident of history. They have qualities that are worth reflecting on.
