I’m just commenting on OP’s gripe. I think Rachmaninoff is great. But I think it’s a universal experience of fans to find that the popular thing is not what they consider the best thing.

This happens in every genre of art. Someone gets very popular with the general public while those with deeper knowledge roll their eyes and think about everyone who’s better.
