Only if you evaluate a GPU on an isolated test bench. Once you factor in a $2,500+ host platform and display, paying ~30% more for the 90-tier card got you ~70%+ higher heavy path-tracing throughput and double the VRAM buffer. That's a lower cost per frame for the whole system.

rayw_reddit

We're talking in the context of consumer GPUs, but yes technically you need to step up to the $16,000+ enterprise GPUs for the literal full-die.

rayw_reddit

They also put the iPhone duo on that list

Which proves the point - buying the 5090 FE at $1,999 MSRP early on locked in full-fat GB202 silicon and 32GB VRAM for what a cut-down 16GB 5080 costs on the market now. Meanwhile, that same 5090 FE sells for $4k+ today, so the day-one MSRP buy was a massive win on both performance and equity retention.

In a high-end $2,500+ build, paying ~30% more for a 90-tier card nets up to ~80% more real-world path-tracing performance, yielding the best cost-per-frame scaling on the total system investment. Combine that with top-tier VRAM retention and near-zero net depreciation on the resale market, and buying the full-fat die at MSRP is mathematically the smartest move in the stack.

No, they never were.

The others in the stack mean upgrading early and spending more in the long run while getting less for the money.

rayw_reddit

As much as people don't like to admit it, the 5090 at MSRP was the best performance per dollar card in the 50-series stack. As was the 4090 in the 40-series stack.

Nice iPhone Duo you got there

rayw_reddit

All good. Unfortunately the sub is definitely a glorified advertisement / PR channel. Anything that detracts from that is removed.

rayw_reddit

Glad it helped!

rayw_reddit

They didn't make it for the base 8 but did for the ultra.

rayw_reddit

Except the Duo version is not as good as the Samsung Fold7 version. It freaking uses adhesives.

The fold version doesn't.

rayw_reddit

It's possible yours could still make it in time. They could even upgrade you to overnight shipping

rayw_reddit

Text, and email. And T-Mobile web site and t-life app order status both reflect shipped.

rayw_reddit

Just got shipped notification. Although still says label created when tracking

rayw_reddit

Mine just got shipped notification

rayw_reddit

My card just got charged again...fingers crossed

Google Fi is all QCI6, same as T-Mobile postpaid and prepaid (except Essentials).

MetroPCS, Mint, and any T-Mobile MVNO (including Popcorn) are QCI7 deprioritized. Often they are also deprioritized further to QCI9 with more usage.

Whether the deprioritization impacts you or not really depends on your location. Me personally? I haven't noticed, even when I went down to QCI9 on T-Mobile. I may have dropped from pulling 500 Mbps to 200 Mbps oh no. But as I said, it's very location, and situation specific. If you like to go to extremely crowded places it could make a difference.

Inner screen replacement costs

Fold7 / 8 / 8 Ultra: $639

Duo: $999

hmmmmm

rayw_reddit

Mine was almost a mirror of yours, except mine didn't get the "decline" until today. And I didn't get a peep from T-Mobile, I reached out proactively to T-Force as soon as I got the decline notification from my bank, after I had already replied "YES" to authorize the charge.

rayw_reddit

My card decided to decline on this very important occasion.

As soon as I got the notification I replied "yes it's authorized". After that I reached out to T-Force who had me fill out a form to readd my card. But unfortunately still no pending charge on the card and the status still shows back ordered. Hopefully my bank didn't dick me over on this one.

512 gb night sky. Estimate still shows Oct 22

Nice, thanks!
