Bake em away toys.

Look at your trash. Have you uploaded/downloaded any large files? Proton (like others) share the storage across your account. Proton drive saves everything you delete until you empty the trash.

rdyoung

Yeah. We came out with us and like 10% of our stuff. It's going to be a long road rebuilding all the little stuff.

rdyoung

We're good. It's been 8 months. We just yesterday finally sold the other burned out property so we can finally move on.

rdyoung

Lately I've been using stremio more, I've been binging the old law and order and some others. It's been easier just to pull it up on there. We had a house fire and I have a lot of work ahead of me rebuilding and recovering whatever I can before I can even begin to start building my local cache again.

The upside is that we now have 5gig fiber (hopefully soon to be 10gig) so it won't take long at all to fill up a local cache.

rdyoung

I'm old school. I stream locally with vlc but for a gui experience I use stremio connected to debrid and usenet.

I do own a lifetime plex and if I had kids (or if any become a regular part of my life) I'd set up stremio with a couple of debrid and usenet options but also likely just host some it myself which I'll be working on shortly as get myself set back up in our new place.

Actually specs wise, plenty of others are equal or better. Where Nvidia shined with the shield was the software.

I'm saddened by the number of fanbois still licking their boots despite them being one of the reasons we are facing this hardware shortage.

It's clear by this comment by you and the others here that you haven't actually looked at any others and I didn't either until my house burned down and I didn't have (nor want to spend) the $200+ to replace 10yr old hardware (with a small refresh 7 years ago) when I could spend half that (or less) and get something with just as much punch. Even the base onn I bought for like $20 was good enough for a base box to take on the road or use for kids or any other setup where max resolution doesn't matter.

It was "L a d y G" to the male escorts (if you type that out without the spaces it gets your comment auto deleted for some weird reason....

Let's try that now.

Lady G, Ladyg, ladyG.

Is mine still up?

Just stop. Seriously, stop talking. You are so far out of your depth and you just don't realize it.

One last time before I end this hilarity.

Power outages happen all the time and most of them are not that bad so while trump is bad, you have no idea what you are talking about and need to stop blathering.

There is a reason why 3 days of "rations" is considered a baseline. Until you can grasp that and until you start buying your own food and paying your own bills, you won't get it.

rdyoung

Easynews is the fastest I've ever seen. I've seen a few 1gig+ files get downloaded in seconds.

rdyoung

How long do you think the average power outage lasts these days? Do you also think that magically no food is available to purchase or access after the storm passes?

And how long do you think the average storm lot other event) actually lasts that keeps people from leaving their house at all?

Plenty of times that people have extended outages but even the ice storm we had a few years ago that NC as a whole wasn't ready for and neither was my city, our power was still back on within a few days and we could leave the house and find areas with power and purchase things there.

You clearly have never been in a grocery store in the days before a major hurricane or snow storm. If you had, you'd know that the average person buys stupid shit like hot pockets and milk when bad things are imminent, they definitely make an attempt and empty the shelves so they definitely have enough food for a few days especially combined with what most families have in their pantry and cabinets along with the fridge.

rdyoung

That has to be the stupidest things I've read in awhile and yep, it would be from a Floridian. Note that I grew up in Tampa and know whats what.

Why would I poison myself with a non renewable resource when between vehicles, solar and battery banks that can handle it, I could run virtually indefinitely without a grid connection? I had an ev and will be buying another one soon as possible, that battery can run a house (yes the entire house) for days.

rdyoung

As fast as most things start playing with tb, I'm not sure how much faster it needs to be. At some point I'll see how fast I can download direct from them now that my internet is legit legit.

rdyoung

Gotta love reddit. Downvote the person who actually knows what they are talking about. Reddit please don't ever change.

That's not how that works when it comes to the law. I'm betting you aren't even in the USA and you are acting like you know more about this then those of who grew up in it and some of us actually learned about this stuff at home and in school.

Moving assets into a trust is not tied to nor connected to (legally prosecutably speaking) any of his other crimes. The blind trust wouldn't have stopped him (really others using him) from manipulating the markets with the tariff nonsense or anything else.

I'm done here. If/when you are able and capable of having an intelligent discussion about this, let's go but until then I am not going to keep talking in circles while you completely miss the forest for the trees.

rdyoung

Are you an idiot or just a racist?

Don't those usually go together?

rdyoung

AFAIK, it's actually not a crime nor is it a requirement. I believe it's just been something they have done to show they are not corrupt.

It's something every other president has done without being told but I don't think it's actually codified into anything that would allow it to be added to the ever growing list of crimes he's committed.

Because you need receipts. https://www.brennancenter.org/our-work/policy-solutions/strengthening-presidential-ethics-law

There are literally zero laws or regs requiring them to move holdings into a blind trust. They are subject to disclosure requirements but that's it and that requires someone actually caring to audit.

rdyoung

Food and water is usually already covered by people. No one forgets to stock up on entire pallets of water that will just end up being used day to day and then rinse and repeat when the next weather event hits. Go into any store right after a storm has been reported as imminent, it's not pretty.

For those who need the context and background. I'm currently in NC now and even this far from the ocean people still go nuts for summer storms and empty the shelves of anything and everything that isn't nailed down and then repeat when the next one hits. I was however born and raised in Florida and lived thru quite a few canes over the years.

rdyoung

No propane or gas grill but I have the rest and then some covered and I think at least one of my big batteries might be able to handle an electric griddle or foreman, etc for at least enough time to cook a meal or two. I need to get some larger ones that can handle that output for longer.

And yes, the following doesn't apply to everyone but lots of evs support what's called v2l and can act as a very large battery. You may have a physical outlet in the car or you have to connect an adapter to your charge port but it will let you run more than enough to survive at least a bit without power.

rdyoung

Pretty sure he's the first to just not do it. Imagine if any dem president refused to do this thing that everyone else does. The right would be all over them about it saying they are running a crime syndicate and whatever nonsense they want to project.

rdyoung

I've been extremely impressed with the onns. The 4k pro I have plays everything I've thrown at it, both on stremio and in vlc streaming not small 4k media files.

If Nvidia ever sees fit to update/refresh the shield, I'll pre-order it as soon it's available. Til then, there are definitely some boxes out there that have more than enough juice for the average person without costing an arm, leg and (now) a hand.

rdyoung

For the price, onn and google are damn good. I had a shield pro but it went up in a fire. I now have a couple of onns and one of the streamer 4k boxes from google. The onn is $30-$60 depending on the model and the google box is like $150 but I found one used for half that.

I agree that the shield is hard to compete with but considering the cost of them now because availability is getting lower and lower, $ for $, plenty of others are definitely punching in the same weight class.

rdyoung

Under a few of them. I'm over in Winston-Salem and "we" have been dealing with a potential DC in the outskirts of the city, I would not be surprised to find out there were many many more in the process of being pushed thru all over the surrounding counties.

rdyoung

What if it's actually the largest dwarf you've ever seen?

rdyoung

If they could read they would be very very insulted.

rdyoung

A few years ago I would have said jaybird, if you can find any that aren't way overpriced, go for it, otherwise I'm not sure. I'm still figuring out the ear things for the ankers I recently bought, need to figure out which one works best but I prefer the winged ones from jaybird (and others).

I (now) have 2 (almost) identical BT speakers from anker that I've been happy with especially for the size of it. I bought one many years ago and recently they had a combo pack of cheapo buds and the speaker on Amazon for like $40 so I grabbed it. The speakers are supposed to be able to be used together I just haven't tried it yet for better sound coverage. The original speaker lived in my travel bag for years so we had something decent for music in our hotel rooms.
