Nice work 👌 share away I say :) I’ve not used the javafx scene graph as I moved from swing to webapps and missed the javafx train. Does that give you some higher level framework for working with the canvas?
Also how do you implement those libs? Are they like the jso wrappers or pure Java that can be compiled to js?
robintegg
Looks great. As someone who is just getting up to speed with the likes of teavm / wasm, I appreciate you sharing a project showing how high the bar can be for Java apps in a browser
robintegg
Great to see others using it in the wild. The interop part seems to be a good fallback when you need to patch in some Java script.
Using it to build the canvas drawing app was pretty wild. The output blew my mind and I didn’t think I’d ever be able to have that level of web interactivity via Java.
With that example under the belt I’d certainly have more confidence asking a model to produce more elaborate ui. A draggable workflow editor for example. All that time spent researching js libraries and working out how to use them, now I could probably ask a model to generate me what I want and understand the code
robintegg
IntelliJ vs vs code surely?

Tbh I’ve not tried dart, but I can see how that platform would be good in terms of one language/platform.
In other experiments I’ve tried my most success has been in a single stack. I wrote about scs self contained services before and the agents were quite good working within those constraints too.
Having a single language in a repo may just help a model by not introducing too many variables and decisions. The outcome / benefit may also be biased because I know Java and can evaluate the outcome, introducing other languages like JavaScript become more of a black box over time where I assume it’s fine.

I guess it’s a trade off - too much slop and nobody reads anything, not enough and the community will recede. A tough decision for those running the forum.
My personal take is that I enjoyed learning about the library, I feel like I don’t need to keep it all to myself and I’ve used ai to fill in the cracks of my thoughts so that other can read it if they wish. My hope would be for someone to see this, use the library, see it’s good, write some more and the community progresses.
Others have found my others share useful so hopefully they’ll find this good too

An awesome project you have there. Working across platforms with Java has been a pain in the past but it doesn’t need to be with projects like these.
Next showcase for me would be seeing it I can’t package the Java with a browser such as JCEF and then I’ve got a desktop application
robintegg
For sure, I’ve not scaled up to enterprise levels. Some more investigation required around that.
The was a hilla framework from the vaadin team that did something similar but I think that was mainly at the api level. It’s less opinionated here and you can have the models used by the executing Java script not just a bind to an app call.
If you run the currency converter example and open up dev tools, you will see the source maps show you the Java code, so you are able to debug the js by stepping through the Java code. That’s pretty nice.
Also, from some react codebases I’ve worked on a painful debugging session can be found in any front end :)

I think it’s getting harder to be heard in the avalanche of ai news. However, I do believe we need to press on with these types of foundational level libraries and projects. Otherwise therell be no progress

JCEF is a nice way to wrap web UI on the desktop in Java using an embedded chromium https://awesome-java-ui.com/jcef.html
robintegg
Valid points. Feels like with ai we’ve got a good copilot to go out and make some new ones

For swing , swing tree is a nice extension on the swing programming model https://awesome-java-ui.com/swing-tree.html and elowbe is a recent look and feel worth a shout https://awesome-java-ui.com/elowbe-lookandfeel.html
robintegg
Agreed. Java has a quality eco system on the desktop. https://awesome-java-ui.com/

Thanks for sharing. Looks like there is this spring boot starter for otel - https://spring.io/blog/2025/11/18/opentelemetry-with-spring-boot. As you say would suit the export of data to compatible dashboards / services. A common format would definitely be a good option for aggregating across technologies. The spring boot options I compared are somewhat limited in that regard, typically scopes to the spring boot application
robintegg
Yes, same here. Keeping the services away from public access regardless of what actuator endpoints are exposed is a key architectural approach. If you have the infrastructure, the auto registration of instances with spring boot admin scales nicely across environments as you mention. Some people run one instance for all environments , others a server per environment.

Looks very nice. Will check it out. Great to have a Java option in the space 👏

Out of curiosity, how much effort was it to generate the LaF so far? What skills are needed to make a decent effort? I’m not a pixel pusher but would consider putting effort into a LaF if the bar on graphics wasn’t too high. Can ai help in some aspects?
robintegg
Looks great 👍thanks for sharing! Have a project to try it out on . Will feedback

Lots of other options for Java fx https://awesome-java-ui.com/
Looks like an interesting project. My line of thought would be to blend the output from teavm with the browser mechanism in the JCEF project. Looks like this project might then be able to wrap that up in a native executable with some nice management features such as updates?
