The other day I was driving through Bangor and there was mist coming out of the storm drains and manhole covers. I did not stop to investigate.

Listen when they start building data centers in areas where the residents want them, we can have a conversation about whether they're worth an energy ranking on par with sanitation and food. Golf courses can get fucked though, I'll give you that.

Shitty tiktok videos of a baby playing guitar might, to some people, be valued differently than food.

My cousin owns a software development company and he says all his stuff is being written by AI nowadays. They've fired most of the junior coders at his job since they can get AI to do all that. He agrees it's only worthwhile as a tool, it needs to be used by somebody experienced in order to be any good. I asked what's going to happen to his company when the experienced guys are ready to retire and no junior coders have been able to come up the ladder. He said the company will probably just close and make its money off residuals.

The tool is only as good as the craftsman and thanks to the tool, we aren't training craftsmen any more. AI users seem don't see the problem, they just see their own workload getting smaller.

Solo Leveling.

Any given character could crack my back and the soundtrack is a solid string of bangers but I would not say the show is “good.”

I could not get into Korra. I watched like three episodes and her personality annoys me. I’m sorry. I tried.

I just saw a post where a guy had six digits of child support due, he never paid a dime. The state's solution was to put a lien on the house he owned, and then he died, so now his kid (who is like 40) is trying to explain to the state that he does not want to sell his family home in order to get the money to pay the child support the estate owes him.

"Having to take care of a baby is what you get for being so stupid" I refuse to believe you aren't a prolifer. This is a psyop.

runner64

My only problem with this argument is that the dismissive "sex makes babies, you knew that when you nutted" attitude is exactly the same as "sex makes babies, you knew that when you spread your legs" argument that prolifers use. This doesn't need to be a bodily autonomy issue, adoption is still on the table and giving the baby up birth should be a choice equally available to both parents.

I can always tell when it’s below 10F because the air gets kinda crinkly? To breathe?

You’re a queerplatonic life partner and you will have a place as long as you continue doing the dishes.

runner64

I've been cutting my partner's hair since covid.

runner64

This would take so much time and money and introduce so much uncertainty, for no reason.

The protection isn't for free repairs on $1,200 worth of damage, it's for $1,000 repairs on $40,000 worth of damage and $700,000 worth of medical bills, plus whatever expenses come from the guy he hit.

The problem here isn't insurance, it's that our car-based society won't let us leave the house without individually purchasing equipment that many of us can't afford to replace. And then we're operating this equipment on roads next to many people who frankly should not be licensed to drive. Up here in Maine you can't go a mile without almost having a headon collision with the crypt keeper, but without a driver's license meemaw can't get to the doctor's office because public transit would be *socialism.*

Saw an ad today where a woman had chatgpt generate and print her a newspaper every morning and it's like god damn they're really desperate to find a single use case for this technology, huh.

I can't tell what the three titles are supposed to be, but my first main question is why a Mongolian princess has a name that sounds Greek.

runner64

This is the stuff I think of when I hear that AI is gonna take over the internet and destroy society. Like oh no we’ll have real thrift stores and actual clearance prices but we won’t be able to watch videos of babies moonwalking anymore, oh nooooo….

Interesting, I wonder if the manager at the Brewer/Bangor location is just off their rocker.

runner64

I quit going for a while back during covid when they hung up big posters announcing that they would NOT ask for medical reasoning if you chose to shop there maskless 'for medical reasons' but unfortunately if it's not them it's walmart (assholes) or amazon (assholes) or target (assholes) so I just let my simmering resentment fuel my anticonsumption goals.

runner64

Either they bought a subscription and are looking for use cases to justify it, or somebody in management has fullblown ai psychosis and doesn't realize how insane it is to want that slop in your eyeline at all times.

Parents had split custody. At dad's house, my room was on the lower level and nobody ever went down there. I read in a book that a potato in a glass of water would grow roots and become a potato plant. That seemed pretty neat so I got my glass of water and my potato and my toothpicks and I set it all up and then I went to my mom's for two weeks.

When I came back, the whole house stank. Absolutely reeked. My stepmom was ready to put my stepbrother out in the snow if he didn't fess up to what he'd done, but obviously it couldn't be me; I hadn't even been here. And then I opened the door to my room and let out a wave of the most overpowering stench I've ever encountered. The potato had never rooted, it had just been sitting there in the water enthusiastically rotting. I had to wash everything I owned. It was a bad time.

The one in Bangor has also started slapping up pointless AI generated signage all over the place. Like thanks bub, couldn't have figured out this aisle was full of candy if you hadn't printed out a sign that says candy on it.

Almost like we have plenty of capacity for services that use a normal amount of processing power, and a new technology that requires 100% of Western Digital's production for the full year might, just spitballing here, be a lil different.
