We're all boiling frogs here in the US. And have been for decades.

s1ugg0

It's not quite that simple.

Yes you are correct about pagers. Now we even have apps that give us a lot more information to our phones when incidents come in.

But look at it from the perspective of a Chief who absolutely must be able to respond to incidents even in the most dire of circumstances. What if the telephone network goes down? Which it frequently does during wide spread events like storms. It's a low tech, low maintenance, proven solution to that scenario.

It also serves the purpose of alerting the community that an incident is happening and they should be vigilant to both emergency service vehicles responding and to ensure their own safety. Many are also tied into the Civil Defense alert system for the same reasons I've listed above.

Now before everyone jumps all over me. I fully recognize how annoying it is. However, I've yet to see an alternative that can actually replace what it is they're there to do. And any new system would require build costs. A ton of those sirens have been on Fire House roofs for decades. They were paid off before most people reading this were even born.

Are arson investigations usually this quick?

No. But I have talked to some of my friends who are Morris County firefighters that worked the actual fire. It was expressed to me that even as they were putting it out it was obvious that the cause was arson.

They would not go into details because they are Professionals. Firefighters go out of their way not to share details that can be connected to victims. Even with each other. But they assumed it was also an open criminal investigation and you definitely keep your trap shut when that is happening.

All the MAGA flags by me have come down. But I am never going to forget who put those flags up initially.

They can't hide that scarlet letter.

New Jersey European Heritage Society

Should just rename it to "Participation trophy society for people with so few accomplishments they're proud of something we did nothing to achieve"

Moms for Liberty

"First Ladies of the Third Reich"

Honestly, I just read about it in local news a week later. And that was rare. Mostly you just reset and wait for the next call.

To be honest again, its easier when you can disconnect like that.

wouldn’t be the last time he’d see her.

In my entire career as a firefighter I never got to meet or talk with a victim I helped after we cleared the incident grounds. Not once.

And here this guy is finding a wife. Simply incredible. Good for those two.

Our utility bills are high enough for right now.

Estimates for burying power lines range from $1 million to $2.1 million per mile for urban areas, compared to overhead lines which average $196,628 to $386,000 per mile.

I would very much like to not see overhead power lines too. But we have to be realistic about the infrastructure costs

It's an NJ.com article. They're lucky if they could even spell statistics.

The quality of their articles is a mere shadow of what they were just a few years ago.

Out of his entire body of work I've enjoyed Conan Needs A Friend the most.

He clearly revels in just riffing with people. Like the lovely Debbie. Doesn't seem to matter to him what the joke is so long as everyone is laughing.

s1ugg0

I start laughing anytime that's brought up. Because it reminds that Stephen Colbert wore a tan suit to the opening of the Obama Presidential Center.

Which is just master class trolling.

s1ugg0

I completely agree. My kids are 6 & 9. I have never not gotten dressed up for Halloween in their life time. I flat-out refuse to stop.

s1ugg0

This makes me laugh.

Because my memory of it was carrying a 45 lbs smoke ejector fan on one arm and a 30 lbs hose pack on my other up 5 flights of stairs. And my turnout still smelled like burnt plastic from a fire the day before.

My own wife wouldn't want to have sex with me in that state.

Also, I learned just because it's an orgy doesn't mean it's full of hotties. I'd say only about 1 out of 5 was a looker. That's both men and the women. And the average age was older than I'd expected too.

Well to each their own. They were certainly nice about the whole thing.

I'm holding out slim hope that new generation of Democrats won't be so spineless.

But I've also been voting for almost 30 years. So I'm willing to admit that's a foolish hope.

s1ugg0

Whatever just don't hit my car

I basically take that attitude to just about anything these days.

s1ugg0

Indeed. Something we need to rectify.

s1ugg0

It doesn't even have that. Yes this puts out fire in some circumstances. However, with a 2.5 gallon water extinguisher You can easily suppress a full room fire It's why firefighters always have a dedicated water can guy.

And it costs like $150. Goes anywhere. And barely needs maintenance and never needs batteries. Every fire truck on the planet already has at least one and a lot have more than one.

Source: I'm a retired NJ Firefighter. There are lots of exciting things coming down the pipe tech wise. This is not one of them.

s1ugg0

Ask any first responder. I'm a retired firefighter. None of you would believe the weird shit we stumble into. I personally worked a heavy smoke condition at what turned out to be a swingers orgy at hotel. A smoke machine that they were using in one of the more heavily decorated rooms got out of hand.

Orgies have a lot more pageantry and stage production than I expected.

You can never tell the hoarder homes from the street either. It's a roll of the dice what you walk into every time.

s1ugg0

Right?!? This has been the best season in years. Sure it's like a Benny Hill sketch all the time. But at least it's been fun and not boring.

s1ugg0

combination of chronic flight delays, poor terminal connectivity, and difficult ground access

I live in the area and frequently fly in and out of EWR.

Newark the city is actually pretty great. The bad rep it has is a hold over from the 90s. Doesn't really reflect how it is today. Lots of local culture mixed with a variety of nationalities. Makes the food pretty good. Especially in the Ironbound section.

EWR is a monument to all of mankinds sins.

s1ugg0

It's real just not really noticable. About 25% of all ejections seem to produce spinal injuries. Pilots may lose 1–3 centimeters of height immediately after ejection due to disc compression; while much of this is recoverable, some loss may be permanent. Source

I mean at this point the Giants are unironically really good at acquiring memeable players lol

We're not the only ones. /r/NFCEastMemeWar has been an absolute party for the last few weeks.

s1ugg0

None of us should be judged by our behavior in our early 20s. Lord knows I was a fucking jackass back then. +20 years later it makes me cringe.

Thank god camera phones only started becoming the norm after I grew out of that.

s1ugg0

Then your grandpa should have been pissed a long time ago.

NJDC1 was built in 2000.

NJR2 and NJR3 were built in 2013.
