Hi. I’m in the same boat. I started just helping out neighbors with pet sitting, house sitting, and dog walking. Then I decided, since I’m a young(ish) retiree, that walking dogs would be better than a part-time desk job. I’ve been getting clients through Ring Doorbell notifications, going on to Facebook community groups, the Neighborhood app, and monitoring for people who need this type of service. I also built a website & an app that tracks visits, walks, and billing. I created a Google Business profile, and according to the stats, I had 29 views & 1 website visit in the couple of weeks since I created it, so I think there’s some value in creating it. My friends & neighbors, whom I’ve sat for, will be writing reviews for Google. You can look at other dog walkers on Google to see how they built their business profiles. I also created tear-away flyers and hung them in supermarkets in the towns that I am willing to serve. I registered on Rover last week and did have one customer. Now, aside from Rover, this past week, I watched 2 bunnies, a cat, and a dog. The bunnies & cat were barter services (they’re going to watch my dog when I’m away), but had they all been paying customers, I would have made $1200 in one week. My goal is to grow it organically, without Rover. The dog that I sit for was a lead through Ring Doorbell, and it turned out to be fantastic. They’ve referred me to other folks, so I’m happy about that. I answered a request on Facebook, but it was for a woman who is a dog walker and needs assistance. Her rate was NOT acceptable, but I don’t hold that against her. It’s her business. Just not worth my time when I can get leads on my own. That said, you may want to find local, independent dog walking businesses that will outsource to you. They’re all over Facebook. Sorry for the long response, but we need to help each other out! Best of luck to you!

Agreed, but I wanted to pose the question to my community and that’s the only way with that specific reach.

I posted a few very simple questions in a local facebook community group. I simply asked how the installation was approved, city council vote? police dept budget? how long is data kept ? who had access? and who is it shared with?
Many “liked” the post, but there were countless comments, “well, if you’re a law abiding citizen…” b/s.
I countered with a few things. My question had nothing to do with abiding by the law. AI is a central component to Flock’s functionality and AI notoriously makes mistakes. Flock footage is being used by cops to stalk exes etc. Cited everything with credible news links.
And yet the condescension, gas lighting, and lack of civility was astonishing. If there had been a democrat in office, these people would be cutting those things down faster than Trump’s ear grew back.
It speaks volumes to the massive
brainwashing that we’ve seen happen right before our eyes.

Has anyone figured out who or what private equity company(ies) is (are) pushing these monstrosities all over NJ? It seems like an organized crime ring. Private equity scoops up properties for a song. Their contractors bulldoze the original, and slap up this shoddy crap using subpar materials in record time. They squeeze these gargantuan structures onto tiny pieces of property without considering drainage issues (my neighbor’s new home, just like this, flooded —- no sump pump — in an area that’s been prone to flooding in recent years). And I truly believe they’re working in tandem with select realtors. An investigative journalist needs to look closely at this. They are out-pricing EVERY first time home buyer who isn’t a millionaire.
Edit: Almost forgot to add the senior living facilities as part of the ring. My parents had an old friend of over 50 years in senior living. She had no family. My family was about to offer to buy her house, but before we even approached her, the senior living facility convinced her to sell to them. I walked by a few days later and saw it being bulldozed. They moved fast.

I’m late to this post, but I’ve heard people using Pet Corrector spray… it’s canned air that makes a whooshing noise that deters dogs. My aunt uses it on her walks and swears by it.

It’s hard to gauge what the reason could be. I have a border collie-poodle mix with a thick coat (trimmed shorter for summer months). He’s extremely active, and will run after a frisbee for hours in any weather, but walking in any temperature over 70° and he’ll lay down at every shady patch of grass. I always offer him water, a treat, and a few head scratches before we move on. We generally walk about 2-3 miles and play frisbee along the way, so I let him take a little siesta when he needs it. On the other hand, I walk my neighbor’s dog, and when she gets to her friends’ houses, she will lay down and flat out refuse to move until her pal comes out… It usually results in us picking her up and physically moving her 😂 She’s a chocolate lab 😅

Wow! I had no idea this was taking place and was just complaining at a bbq that they should put these data centers in the middle of the ocean like an offshore oil rig… and someone told me I was stupid. And while that may be true, wouldja lookie here.

May he celebrate his next birthday the way Shakespeare celebrated his 52nd 🎭

Not everyone is as fortunate as you, and sometimes it’s a matter of life or death. My parents went into major debt when health insurance wouldn’t pay for my father’s cancer treatment when he was self-employed. He’s alive today, thankfully, and it was “worth it”. That’s “how on earth” something like that can happen. Have a day.

I initially read that last line wrong and thought you were saying his wife should pull an “Ivana” 😬

OMG! I'm so sorry. I know how traumatic it was for us as seniors having a teacher who just applied. Let alone what you went through. I’m so very sorry. I actually did a whole thing in my public speaking course the next year in college about Christa McAuliffe because it impacted me so much. Sending you love.

These were some defining GenX moments for me:
1979 - Made bank with my lemonade stand set up near a gas station when the gas lines were miles long due to the shortages.
1986 - Had a teacher who applied to be on the Challenger. After many rounds, she was eliminated. We watched in her class as the tragedy unfolded. I’m still in touch with my teacher 40 years later 🥹
1987 Madonna Giant Stadium - Who’s That Girl Tour. I became a huge fan that day as she preformed flawlessly in a downpour.
1988 - Amnesty International in Philly. Springsteen, Sting, Peter Gabriel, Tracy Chapman, Joan Baez, Youssou N'Dour. What an amazing day. Despite being baked from the sun (and otherwise), I’ll never forget it.
1994 - Billy Joel and Elton John in Philly AND Giant Stadium.

When this timeline finally shifts to one in which we exist with some semblance of normalcy, I cannot WAIT to see what kind of dirt they had on all of these syccophants & 🫏💋ers. I'm sure it's volumes.

Both of my parents are Silent Generation (born late 30s). My sister & my spouse are Boomers, as was my brother (all born early 60s). Gen X here - born late 60s.

I really think so, too. I have an idea in mind and would love to start making videos with him while he's still little to see where the claymation adventure takes us. 🩵
