Day 2 with my $6000 Copart Polestar 2: first EVgo fast charging (old.reddit.com)

Yes, luckily got enough above what I still owed Nissan to get into this Polestar.

I was… perhaps over confident after upgrading from a degraded 12 to a new 22 (non plus, 40 kWh version) and the second weekend I had it I took it from Durham NC to West Virginia for a rafting trip. Never left the state again my lord it was not a good idea.

I had VIDA installed and felt pretty confident about using WireShark to sniff out the keys but… I went with their retrieval service and had my keys in 5 minutes.
sblinn
Ah the first question depends on how you value your time. To get Orbit to provide the required security keys you pay around $300 - it’s the year license plus two PIN retrieval. If you’re up for getting through VIDA ($80 or so for a 3 day license) and running it along with a WireShark packet sniffer you only need the $100 license.
Either way you also need an about $20 OBD2 to ETH dongle and a Windows PC.

I think it came with 2 real fob and 1 activity fob. Somewhere along the way a 3rd (also missing) fob was added.
sblinn
Oh man I’m so sorry.
sblinn
Oh cool, TIL what that term means. (My son's Charger had them, I think.) My 2023 with only the "Pilot" package doesn't have any pre-wiring, but it looks like I can use some stick-on LED types. Will check some out!
sblinn
Aha but here’s the trick: you have the soldiers rebuild the country
sblinn
The best is going on a road trip and there’s a row of 10 CCS chargers, 8 of which are empty, and the 2 that are in use are the only ones that are also Chademo… and one of those doesn’t work, either.
sblinn
And seriously just check out Copart and filter on nearest and “runs and drives” and pick one whose body damage (if any!) you can live with until/if you fix it. These cars are SO repairable. (See my day 3 post…)
sblinn
It’s the season. All the leases coming off in waves, prices low because people are worried about service center access while Polestar can’t sell vehicles in the USA, etc.
sblinn
I figured $5M this is almost punitively low
sblinn
The Magicians by Lev Grossman, and Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire.
sblinn
Whatever it is in USA.
sblinn
At $20k in the US there isn’t a better deal. (Unless you go even cheaper and pick up a dinged up one for under $10k off Copart etc.) The only things close in bang for buck are a VW ID.4 in the $15k used range or an outgoing 2026 lease deal on a Mercedes CLA. (A used Kia Niro or Hyundai Kona EV is in the ballpark but not the same “bang” class really.) If you can find a nice Hyundai Ioniq 6 you may want to compare your thoughts between the two. (I picked Polestar 2 myself.)
sblinn
If Colts beat Vikings today no way are they selling yet.
sblinn
Not to mention the workflow in the EVgo app to add my car as auto identified to the chargers was seamless too.
sblinn
What. The. Fuck.
sblinn
Just play this clip instead of almost every other political ad.
sblinn
My guess is to get this you’ll need an OBD2 dongle and an app on your phone or tablet.
sblinn
It’s not a both sides thing. It’s Russia invading Ukraine. The war would end tomorrow if they left Ukraine.
sblinn
Don’t threaten me with a GREAT time
Yeah, the service records would be very nice to have. That would give you info like were the axles already replaced, etc. Are you allowed to even hook up an OBD two to get battery health?
