Lost me at "...even Twitter and TikTok..."

You'll at least find some people who try to lay out communicate rationales underpinning their opnions here and not solely rely on zingers and memes.

"...50/50 chance the judge is wack..." - that probability has no facts backing it.

"...90% chance of whack jurors..." - that probability has no facts backing it.

"I have to convince 1 judge or 12 people." - incorrect. You only need one hold out for a hung jury. And the prosecution is less likely to take another run at you after a mistrial (unless some new and damping evidence came up).

My comment was snarky af because I'm tired people coming on here and berating writers and insisting they conform themselves and their output to the specific tastes of the posters.

But now I'm going to answer more directly.

Clearly you have very specific tastes about sexual content (about what you deem "appropriate" and what you deem as being "needed"). You also have certain ideas about what you deem to be "proper" fiction that "deserves" reading (i.e. how you're upset some smut gets 3M hits).

Tags can basically only tell you if something exists in a fic or not. Maybe the freeform tags can give you more context, but probably not to the degree you want. There's probably not a tag saying "tasteful sex scenes that are totally necessary to the plot." And even it one did, the whole concept is so subjective that it probably still wouldn't match your tastes.

You are not getting the experience you want out of the box.

And berating the community to conform to your tastes is not going to work.

You are probably better off creating your own experience.

Probably the least complex way to do this would be to create a web page to the fic that shares your tastes. And by "archive" I mean a page that has links to the works of your choice on AO3, FF, Wattpad, etc. Just the things you think are "good".

There's some effort up front:

  • Technical: making a web page. there's are tools that can help with this process, but if still requires some work
  • Community: Share the page around, make it an actual resource ffor the community and people who share you tastes will probably start putting you on to works you don't know about but fit your vibe.

This is how it was before the major platforms, no reason you can't do the same to craft a better experience for yourself.

So, OP, did you know there's such a thing called a "Gen" filter? And other filters, too?

You should even be able to bookmark the filter results page so you dont have to see the kind of icky, squicky fic you don't like.

And if there isn't enough of the kind of fic you do like, sounds like a good opportunity to start writing.

The power is on your hands, OP. I believe in you!

Bold of you to assume some judges don't have some undiagnosed mental illness...or bias...or superiority complex...or are overworked and inattentive...or lacking in common sense...or just outright corrupt.

When you factor in the full pool of potential adverse conditions, the odds aren't that great for each given appearance before the bench.

schism15

1) You're implicitly calling yourself an idiot 2) If what you are trying to say is that you are intellectually superior to the average person and only want to be judged by other intellectually superior people, that is a slippery slope. That would mean you have an elevated class delivering justice to "the masses." 3) It puts undue burden on said group of "qualified" citizens (because it shrinks the jury pool).

schism15

I'd call the police immediately and tell them to get this stolen shit out of my house.

And that's why my "smart" TV stays unplugged unless I'm actually using it (which is not often). Eventually I just want get a big ass display monitor and build an HTPC.

He had a glitch. The incorrect trigger got tripped and he spit out the wrong gender war talking point template 😆

I never thought I become one of those "Normies are ruining X hobby" people, but...yeah I feel more and more that way about fanfic every day.

schism15

I think you only need to go a few bathrooms that have been vandalized or worse to understand why this is a thing.

Also, then the employees don't have to deal with cleaning up said vandalization or worse.

What is RATC?

I'm always in favor of people using concrete projects to supplement resumes, but realistically isn't this going to be prohibitively expensive for most?

I'm in a woodworking class to build a small Shaker table and I had to buy a piece of lumber (Ash, 12'x9"x10/4) and it was like $130. Even if you go in with a few other students seems like it would be a lot for someone starting out.

schism15

I'm sorry you've had to go through all of that. It sounds harrowing.

Also thank you for being open to talking about it.

schism15

Yep. The problem is the mentality of looking for "The Answer." "The Right Thing to Do" that's supposed to unlock all the things you want in life.

That's why I low key get a little irritated when I hear people complain about how "they did everything they were supposed to do" and now they are not getting what they expected out of life. Like, what?

There is no "supposed to do" because there is nothing that ensures outcomes. There are just actions we take to shift the odds more in our favor and contingencies we put in place for when shit goes sideways. Because shit WILL go sideways.

And I feel like we should all understand this because there's nothing an adult loves to tell a kid more than "life's not fair" and "there are no guarantees."

schism15

Thanks for the context.

I was going mention the whole "wears down your body" thing as well, but every time I see people talk about it online, there's usually a couple other comments to are like "No it doesn't. I'm 50 and I'm fine. You guys just eat like crap and don't exercise to strengthen the right parts of your body." Or "people get injured because of the safety culture on work sites."

It's a little hard to get a read on what the factors on this are.

So I figured I'd just keep my mouth shut on this particular aspect and see what others' experiences are.

Changelogs are easy to generate if you have the tools in your pipeline. But there is still a relatively small amount of work still has to go into them to make them meaningful.

I'm a web dev so I can't speak explicitly to mobile dev, but looks like they have similar changelog automation tooling in their ecosystem.

Those tools require devs to standardize on things like commit (code change) messages (e.g. the Conventional Commits spec) and version numbers (e.g. the Semantic Versioning spec). In our case the Product Owner is responsible for the changelog and will take the output of the changelog automation (which is the actual CHANGELOG in our code repo) and then make some adjustments to remove what is not user facing.

So there is some human intervention involved, but way less that would be without the tooling. And who knows, we could probably configure it to make the process even more efficient.

So I wouldn't say blanket "easy," but there are tools that make it easier with planning and coordination of the team.

schism15

That's wild af if true. There's tooling what generates changelog entries based on commit messages. you can refine the entries, or don't. Just throw it in the CI pipeline and go.

I'm sure there programs/scholarships available somewhere. But I've seen people saying they are not as plentiful as they were led to believe. Some people are going into debt to get their training. It's also very location dependent.

At the end of the day, training costs time and money. If someone's going to cover that cost, to the extent that it's free for you, there has to be an incentive for them to do so. And, no the incentive is not making you employable. They have no reason to care about that.

The incentive is usually that they have way too many open slots for a role and too few bodies.

Is that incentivized role something you are interested in or something that has a high pay ceiling? Are such incentive programs available in your area? Who knows? You have to ask around locally.

Edit: I just saw that you specified "at home."

Ask around at your local programs, but I HIGHLY DOUBT such a program is fully remote. The trades are about construction, maintenance of physical things like building and equipment. Theory will only take you so far. Eventually you have to do the actual work physically to learn and reinforce the skills.

I mean, I don't like the event, but it wouldn't stop me from the game as a whole. I would just take a break.

When the new season drops, I try to get the Season Journey and Season Pass done ASAP, then log in every couple of weeks to clear manhunts. So taking weeks off from a season is a normal thing for me (in fact it's necessary so I can stagger other seasons from other games).

Just so happens this season there are some things I want to get done before the DLC, so I need to play now.

Otherwise, yeah I definitely would have stayed off the game for the entirety of this event. I get that we're getting showered with loot but for me, personally, it's not worth the annoyance of the constant interruptions.

schism15

Ah, so that's where all the SMMA bros went.

schism15

"Get into the trades, Bro."

Emphasis seems to be on becoming an electrician or plumber. People assume getting a union job will just happen and then all will be well.

From what I've seen of people who work those jobs and make content online, getting into the trades seems to be (like anything else in life) a mixed bag.

Which is what it was for tech and for getting an MBA before that, lol.

And the wheel continues to turn...

schism15

Nailed it.
