For me C++98/03 is a feature.

Reminded me of a 20-years-old classic :) https://tldp.org/HOWTO/Coffee.html

I have the same usage pattern — 90% as a desktop and occasional travel, so I can (and do) live with those limitations. But once I’m on the go, it gets annoying quickly. It’s especially visible when traveling to the customer site, when you need to have a good battery life, ability to put your laptop to sleep, HDMI connection which doesn’t hang your OS, inputs that you can use in an airplane, etc. Also, unless you get yourself an external mic and webcam, you’ll have the worst call quality in any meeting, and people sometimes ask me what kind of potato I’m calling from :) mind you, it’s worse with the Pulse, so there’s that.
Edit: Typos.
Edit: Oh, and also I forgot to mention that after about a year something went wrong with the power circuitry on my IBP, so now it randomly shuts down in ~30% cases when I unplug the charger… with full battery. I use this computer daily and can’t be bothered to send it for repairs, but I’m not looking forward to travel with it.

In my case it only makes noise when there’s some bug in one of the apps, which then starts to consume 100% CPU. For example, one of the PyCharm plugins I use has a memory leak, which eventually leads to swap thrashing (with 64GB of RAM, yeah) and then the laptop starts to sound like a jet engine. Under “normal development workloads” it is quiet but not silent. Those many Docker containers usually sit idle anyway.
This computer is not a match for a MacBook. It’s a Chinese OEM, so pretty much everything that makes it portable is significantly worse, especially under Linux — webcam, mic, speakers, touchpad, keyboard, sleep and hibernation, build quality, looks, battery life, noise, single-thread performance… — all are inferior. But it’s x86 and it’s cheaper. In my case x86 is non-negotiable. But I’ll tell you this — if your budget permits, I’d suggest getting a comparable Dell or a ThinkPad — they are better computers and (surprisingly) have better Linux support.

I think I do, and quite well.

Well, the most obvious grim answer to “what happens then?” is AI will be improving itself, and it won’t need human programmers anymore.
…and then another question will arise — what happens when we eventually start pushing back on spending ever growing resources on AI improving itself?
setwindowtext
Problem is, you won’t be able to distinguish that, so no one will do it.
setwindowtext
I believe it’s a very valid concern and surprised that it gets downvoted. But then I guess having post flairs on r/KDE will be the least of our problems.
setwindowtext
I take an absolute stance against AI because of how good it is.
setwindowtext
I would argue that “Vibe-coded” and “No AI used” flairs make more sense, as they represent extremes.
I personally would then ignore the posts with the former, have genuine interest in the latter (for ethical reasons and solidarity) and kind of scroll through the rest.

Its interface will never get old, because there isn’t one.

Thanks for your feedback! I created a new Issue for this feature: https://github.com/flowkeeper-org/fk-desktop/issues/229
I'm currently working on the online data sync for v2.0, which will keep me busy for a while, but once it's done I'll look at your request closer.
We can discuss details via [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) or in Discord.

Here’s a similar technique explained for building AMIs: https://developer.hashicorp.com/packer/integrations/hashicorp/amazon/latest/components/builder/chroot#how-does-it-work It can be used for restoring broken VMs, too.

Its typical failure mode is refusing to start after reboot.

Which is like a 10 minutes job. A more advanced version of which includes chrooting into this volume and reinstalling SSM agent or whatever made it crash.

I think workspaces is a gimmick which makes KDE unnecessary complex.

I had a Brera with 2.4 JTDm, and I’m sorry but it drove like a pig. It’s a very nose-heavy car with too much torque and surprisingly large turbo lag. Going fast on mountain roads was very sketchy. The Giulia has a perfect 50:50 weight distribution, it’s a completely different animal.
setwindowtext
Have you driven a 156? I owned one. That V6 sounds nice, but you have to rev it very high, and then you have wheel spin and pretty ugly understeer due to FWD. A 2.0 Giulia is much faster and compliant. Oh, and it is faster than a GTA, too.
Chacun des iPhone que j’ai eus m’a parfaitement servi pendant 5 à 10 ans.
