because genitals don't determine whether you are a woman or not. trans women know they are women. transness predates bottom surgery. the idea that you are not a woman until a procedure is done to you supposes you gender is something externally given to you by someone else but the entire concept of gender identity exists because of the conflict that arises when someone calls you by the markers of a gender you know you aren't.

so-called "biological sex" is not even as clear-cut as the received narrative would have you believe. sex is allegedly down to chromosomes, xx/xy, but also down to genitals, but also down to secondary sex characteristics, and also down to hormones... so what if you are born with vagina, xx chromosomes, but high testosterone that causes thick body and facial hair? what if you're born with a penis but xx chromosomes and high levels of oestrogen? what if you're born with indeterminate genitals at birth and your parents decide it's neater if your maybe-penis were a big clit and have it surgically corrected at birth and raise you as a girl but then you can't fight how wrong it feels as you grow up? etc. trans people get surgery to be read as the correct gender but this is a social thing; how viscerally their own self-concept relies on a particular genital/how present dysphoria is based on it will generally have to do with how essential that is to an individuals' visceral understanding of gender itself. the notion that girls can't have dicks is a constraint imposed by a scientific orthodoxy that developed out of convenience and with deference to power structures, not actual biology nor social "truth".

it makes immediate sense to me that to buy into the notion that you must undergo surgery to be "really" trans you are undermining the truth of queerness in order to submit it to a transphobic compulsorily heterosexual standard for acceptance. it is for some reasonably experienced as a form of violent self-denial (i.e. that this body is not a woman's body even though it is the body a woman possesses). and socially passing as a woman is down to visible stuff like boobs, face, hair, voice; between-me-down-there isn't what people see immediately and only a select few may get access so it's not gonna impede social functioning it's just for you. ive heard genitals can feel pretty pleasurable, if you don't feel a deep shame and wrongness and incompatibility with ur genitals then keep em as feels good!
