Sabine actually presents papers stating that Helion is unlikely to be able to succeed.

CFS has more funding on its own than any country except China and the US with 3.9 Bn in funding.
After China and the US the next country putting the most into fusion companies is Germany with 1.1 Bn.

The ALP or the coalition would have led in polls for the last 80 years.
The fact that they no longer do is a huge story.
It also echos what has happened in Hungary with Orban, in Italy with Meloni, in Poland with the PiS, with Gert Wilders in the Netherlands, with the OfP in Austria, with Reform in the UK and of course with Trump.
Despite the denial it's a reasonable probability that in the next decade or so One Nation will lead either an Australian state or perhaps have the most seats in the HoR.
Given that more than half the posts on this sub are now all about ON clearly not only is the media focus on ON but most people interested in politics are also very interested in ON.

The ALP are in real trouble too.
When the Libs were at 30% on primary vote a mere year ago people here and in other places were legitimately saying they are in serious trouble.
Now the ALP is on ~27% primary and trending down.

You can see it even here in this subreddit. Down voting more and more poll news. Denial of what's happening.
The next election is going to be quite something.

It's pretty remarkable. From the article :
"In Newspoll’s history of budget polling, this budget is the second worst on economic impact and the third worst on personal impact."
and
"This budget’s economic net score of -25 (47% bad, 22% good) is the second worst, behind only 1993’s -42. The personal impact net score of -41 (52% worse off, 11% better off) was the third worst, behind -70 in 1993 and -64 in 2014."
Not to mention the hit on Albanese's personal integrity. Whenever he says anything now people are going to bring out "For the 50th time"
As he said.
In April 2025, Albanese resoundingly denied he would make changes to both ahead of the election, saying: "Yes! How hard is it? For the 50th time", when asked if he would rule out the changes.

Australian Universities had revenue of 45 Bn in 2024. Of that 12 Bn came from international student fees. A substantial fraction of that, let's say 1/2, presumably went on expenses for those students. Given that, Commonwealth Funding of an addition 6 Bn would be required if all international students disappeared.
That is what, 1-2 years of the increase in NDIS funding?
A half sensible scheme might reduce, but not have zero international students.
How about say, making assessment done primarily (80%+) on blue book exams with invigilators that have to be written out and people have to be able to write good English for and that Universities could fail people for not doing well enough in. Grade on a curve.
The funding gap wouldn't be that big. Integrity could be restored to the sector.
