I can't speak for you specifically, but as someone who has been in the process of finding a therapist since October I can share some insight into my own fears. I saw a therapist I really liked from March 2016-December 2017, but stopped due to my insurance changing. I also felt like she was done with me as a client.. it was a weird ending, but overall a good experience. Due to a number of reasons, I wasn't able to start looking for a new therapist again until October 2018.

The journey has been fucking rough, to be honest. Between insurance issues, scheduling, and finding the right fit, it's really difficult. I'm on my third therapist - just started with her last week. The first one didn't seem to care at all and the second one just wasn't a good fit (he also made me feel bad about a psychiatrist in his same facility treating me poorly (no dignity and a borderline negligent medication direction - it was nuts)). I had a good first therapy session with this new therapist, but it's still too early to tell if it's the right fit. On a good note, my partner and I just started couples counseling and we really like our therapist. She's kind, compassionate, professional, knowledgeable, and helpful. Good therapists do exist.

This process sucks. It feels like opening actual flesh wounds over and over again. As another person said, it scary and overwhelming having to go through everything again when you've already done that with someone else, regardless of whether it works out or not. Being vulnerable is incredibly difficult. I have had a good therapist with very helpful sessions, so I know it's possible, but I really underestimated the whole process because I got lucky the first time (although she wasn't technically my first therapist, just first in a long time). I don't really have any great advice, but I can commiserate. As I tell myself, I have to keep trying until I've exhausted all possibilities, even when I'm exhausted. It's literally life or death. All we can do is try.

It's really hard, but please keep trying when you can. Your anxiety about therapy is very real, but once you find the right therapist it should dissipate (typically). The work is important and necessary. You are important and necessary. If you'd like to vent or talk about the process, please feel free to message me. Best of luck with your search.

Awesome! I'll DM you pics when I get home tonight. Thanks! :)

I have the Tarte Pro-Glow Highlight & Contour Palette (swatched once, otherwise never used) - would you be willing to trade it for the Vasanti? If yes, I'll message you verification.

Damn, this worked perfectly! I've been waiting for the Air Dry Diva bundle and have nearly missed it a bunch of times, but less than a minute after adding it to my favorites I got that and one other item! Thanks so much!

$25 shipped?

Hi there, I have the Rachel Pally clutch in paradise! It's very cute, but I'll never use it. I don't see anything on your list that I'm interested in, but if you might want to purchase it, let me know! If you're interested, I'll send you a verification photo.

I just want to say - thank you so much for posting this. I definitely need it right now.

How do you like that box? I'm thinking of subscribing. I've checked out reviews on My Subscription Addiction but it's always helpful to hear other opinions!

Do you currently run any group classes at your studio? If yes, go with a rate similar to that. If no, here are a few questions/thoughts to help determine pricing:

  • How many students will be in each class? At my org, we hire a second teacher if there are more than 15 students in one class. You can have one instructor for 15+ students, it just gets harder to manage (as a teacher).

  • I would recommend setting a class cancellation policy and fee for the school. It always depends on the school, but there's always a strong possibility of last minute cancellations due to field trips, testing, etc. That means your teacher(s) won't receive pay that day, but it's a nice practice to give a fee to a teacher if a class is cancelled last minute by the school. We offer $35 per teacher (not per class) if a school cancels classes last minute. This does not include snow days and it is a separate policy if the teacher needs to cancel the class.

  • Depending on how you pay your instructors in your studio, you might want to consider either a flat hourly/weekly rate that does include admin/prep hours OR a separate admin/prep fee. Depending on what you will require of the teachers and what the school will require from you, the instructor may need to fill out more paperwork than usual.

  • Include a separate budget line for performances. They are typically scheduled outside of the normal program schedule and will require additional hours outside the program.

  • Be explicit with your expectations and needs of the program. Tell them what kind of class space you need, what supplies, how many students, etc. There will always be compromising somewhere, but try to be as clear as possible about what you need to be successful.

  • Include a budget line for an administrative fee. Even one class at one school takes an amount of time to manage, but 7 classes at one school will probably require between 2-10 hours to manage each month.

  • Keep separate budget lines for supplies and instruments. Be realistic, with a little wiggle room, for each budget line.

  • If it helps, I work in Chicago and see teaching artists make anywhere from $25-$100/hr, depending on the size of the organization, the size of the class, and experience of the teacher.

  • I'm not sure how this works in your state, but in Illinois, if you build a partnership with a school as independent contractors, the principal might be willing to write a letter of recommendation for you to become a vendor. In Chicago, it's require that an independent contractor or organization be a contracted vendor in our public schools. Something to consider.

If you have any other questions, I'm happy to share my insight! I've been working with my org for 3+ years as their Program Manager overseeing a number of different music education programs. Good luck! :)

I'm not super familiar with their programming, but Old Town School of Folk music is excellent. Sounds like their programs would be a good fit. I don't know if they do anything like a "retreat," but they do offer lessons, workshops, and ensembles and could definitely keep you busy most of the summer.

I love my Betabrand pants! I have a pair of the black skinny leg yoga dress pants. I second everything u/Dziubie said! Good fit - they're a little long on me but I'm 5'1 and the crotch area is a bit long, but never uncomfortably so. After 2+ years they're holding up really well, especially in the thigh/crotch area (I have thicker thighs so that's always a concern). I also second keeping an eye out for their sales. Definitely worth trying at least one pair.

I have a pair of the Betabrand Yoga Dress Pants that I absolutely love, but these are much more affordable. I'm going to give these a try. Thanks for sharing!

Same! I had been subbed for a while and all my info was correct. I received an email saying they were getting it ready, but I never got charged and never received it.

I contacted CS and they said they were still processing orders. That's pretty much it.

Just got an email yesterday saying my spring box was getting ready. Still no winter box and I haven't been charged for either. Again, all my info is correct. I reached for a second time. Haven't heard back yet.

I have no idea what's going on. Fingers crossed it gets worked out!

sjp2

Oooh thank you! I've been to a couple different targets over the last 2 weeks and never saw them. I'll definitely try the Addison one.

sjp2

I am also an annual subscriber - I got the Lorac trio eye palette, mostly because that's the lowest price I've ever seen for it, but I also use those shades a lot. It will be my travel palette. I wasn't interested in anything else. The sale was just ¯_(ツ)_/¯.

sjp2

I was curious about related Twin Peaks bags and saw a really cool version - similar, but more red - of a tote bag on Society6 for $20. Might be worth checking out similar styles if you can't find this exact bag? Good luck!

sjp2

I was just going to post about the billing for this box! So, they haven't billed you either? The last time I was charged was in November. All of my info is up to date. So strange. I may attempt to contact customer service just to check, but then again - it's a $5 box. I can also wait. hahah

sjp2

Same! More power to people who like tassels, but I just can't get into them. I also love the simplicity of the bracelet. I rarely wear bracelets and it's nice that it's barely noticeable (in terms of feeling it) while wearing it.

sjp2

At first I was really "meh" about this box, but I got mine a few days ago and I'm happy to say that I can, at least, use a few things. I love the candle, the roller, and the "love" bracelet (more than I was expecting to) and the dove body scrub is surprisingly decent. I'll mostly use the mask on long flights or occasionally for headaches. I definitely have no use for the polish, the lip palette, and the lotion is way too strong of a scent. The clutch is just okay. If anyone wants the polish, palette, or lotion, I'm down to trade!

sjp2

I got the Clinique one in a Play! box too, recently, and haven't tried it yet. I mostly stick to my usual black gel liner, so I'll have to give it a go.

sjp2

It's awesome to see a happy comment about receiving an eyeliner! hahah. I've gotten the Stila liner before and it's awesome.

sjp2

I do apologize for the insults - I'm sorry about that. I got heated while posting. While my sentiment remains, I'll change my post and remove the name calling.

The problem isn't that she wants things to change and doesn't try to make is fearful of making change. The problem is that the guys being shitty to her don't want or care about things changing because the change doesn't affect them.

Just want to second that resource - that organization is doing great work with young men, particularly around toxic masculinity.

When I read the article I had a similar reaction at first - if it was me, I'd say something and report them, especially if it happened more than once. At least, that's what I would hope I would do. Fear/anxiety are very difficult to overcome, especially when you're isolated in a situation and there is more than one person causing the issue. Women have to deal with the legitimate fear that a situation could escalate to a dangerous level if she speaks up, especially if she is alone. Also, we could get into a whole discussion about how women react and maneuver in a sexist society, but that's a very long conversation.

In addition, at the end of the article she says she is working with Paizo and the convention to resolve the issue. She also wrote the article, which has started this conversation. Not everyone has the courage, or feels safe, to speak in the moment, regardless of their personality. She is taking a stand, even if it's not how you would handle the situation.
