Just to clarify, the Ethernet service in the Merrimack apartments isn't part of the UMass Lowell network. It's a separate network that's provided and managed by the apartment building.

The access point in the photo is not faulty. The status LEDs are intentionally disabled on all wireless access points in the residence halls so they do not create unnecessary light in student rooms.
If you are experiencing Wi-Fi performance or connectivity issues, please submit a support request through UMass Lowell Information Technology. Requests can be submitted through the IT website at https://www.uml.edu/it/ or directly through the IT Support Portal at https://help.uml.edu/.
When submitting a ticket, please include your residence hall, room (or approximate location), the time the issue occurred, the wireless MAC address of the affected device, and a brief description of the problem. Instructions for finding your device's wireless MAC address are available here: https://www.uml.edu/it/getting-on-the-internet.aspx. Providing these details will help IT investigate the issue more efficiently.

Over the past several months, the university has seen a noticeable increase in real fraudulent phishing attempts targeting faculty, staff, and students. These messages are not only more frequent, but significantly more sophisticated, often closely mimicking legitimate communications.
Many of the simulated phishing messages used in our awareness campaigns are modeled on actual phishing emails that successfully convinced members of the university community to provide their credentials to malicious actors. These real-world incidents pose a serious risk to personal accounts, university systems, and sensitive data.
Because of this rising threat level, it is necessary for our simulated phishing campaigns to reflect the current tactics being used by attackers. While we understand that these simulations can be frustrating, their purpose is to raise awareness, reinforce safe email practices, and help all university members recognize and report suspicious messages before real harm occurs.
We appreciate the community’s cooperation as we work to protect the university from increasingly aggressive cyber threats. Additional guidance and resources on identifying phishing emails are available, and we encourage everyone to report suspected phishing messages promptly.

It depends on when they do enforcement. Sometimes you can tell If you see a dude just hanging out in an unmarked sedan near one of the sides.

It’s possible the device was cached in a reject role. This can happen if the device is connected before it is registered or if it is expired in the mydevices portal.

Some smart lights are not compatible with enterprise Wi-Fi networks and are designed for residential use only. If a device requires a traditional Wi-Fi password (WPA), it will not work on the UMass Lowell network.
Possible Workaround
While not all smart lights can be supported, some users have had success with the following steps:
- Register the MAC addresses of both the smart lights and the controlling device (phone or computer) in the mydevices portal.
- Disconnect your controlling device from eduroam and instead connect it to the UMass Lowell Wi-Fi network whenever you wish to control the lights.
slackerdragon
eduroam and UMass Lowell are two separate wireless networks available on campus, each designed for different types of devices and use cases.
eduroam
- Provides access to both UML resources and the Internet.
- Recommended for computers (laptops and desktops).
- Supports secure login using either:
- TLS (certificate-based authentication), or
- PEAP (username and password authentication).
UMass Lowell
- Provides access to the Internet only (no access to internal UML resources).
- Intended for IoT devices, game consoles, streaming devices, smart TVs, etc.
- Requires registration of the device’s MAC address through the mydevices portal.
- Special roles are available for game consoles to help prevent NAT-related issues.
- Registered devices expire annually on July 1 and must be renewed.
- The mydevices portal can only be accessed while connected to the campus network.
slackerdragon
It’s possible that your previous registration in the MyDevices portal has expired and needs to be renewed.
If the issue persists, you can open a support ticket with the TechServices team at uml.edu/it
Be sure to include the MAC address of your PlayStation, and they will be able to resolve the issue for you.

The layout for that room is a bit different from the standard listings on the website. The A bedroom looks like this:

I sent you a direct message with some additional details.

From the perspective on just entering the door, the A bedroom would be on the right side and the B bedroom would be on the left side

Do you have the specific room number? If so send it to me and I'll give you a layout.

As a side note, don’t forget to clean out the air filter in the fan tray once in a while. Most people don’t know it exists on the MX-104.

They renamed to Yassa Grill awhile ago. It's also cheaper to order right at the truck over ordering online. It's usually ready less than 2 minutes after ordering.
Please open a ticket with IT so we can take a look at it.
Go to https://www.uml.edu/it and click the "Report Incident or Submit Request" link.
In the ticket, include your Wi-Fi MAC address, the building and room where you're having the issue, and a few approximate dates and times when it was particularly bad. Also let us know what kind of device you're using (laptop or desktop and the model if you know it).
If you run a speed test, please use speedtest.net rather than fast.com and include the results.
A couple things you can try in the meantime: make sure your wireless drivers are up to date. If it's a desktop, antenna placement can make a pretty big difference. If the computer is under a desk or the antennas are tucked behind it, try moving them somewhere more open. An external Wi-Fi adapter with an antenna that can be positioned on top of the desk can also help.
But definitely put in a ticket. With the MAC address, location, and some timestamps, we can look at the wireless side and see what's actually going on.
