In the same box with Vampire: The Eternal Struggle, Netrunner, X-Files…

Maize’s End and Maize of Ith or bust

slackerdx02

Mother’s North.

Had 3, cracked one and love the cards. Recently sold the other two to Card Kingdom, no regrets.

[[Gaea’s blessing]] and [[Feldon’s Cane]] used to go into all of my decks after they printed [[Millstone]] into Fourth Edition.

[[Drannith Magistrate]] and [[Rule of Law]] both stop cascade. You need to build your deck around your own stax pieces so they don’t hurt you but they’ll make people play fair magic if your meta is all about cheating out spells.

The Rebecca Guay [[Galadriel’s Dismissal]] and [[Galadriel Light of Valinor]] were on my list from the jump. Missed the $30 bottom on the commander but used CK credit for her at $40. Watching the spell. I don’t foresee the surge foil coming down at all.

I love Ron Spencer but his take on [[Orcish Bowmasters]] doesn’t make me want to upgrade my one copy of the regular art. It’s also competing with the scene art and scroll frame as premium options.

Dan Frazier put zero effort into the one ring art.

The high price of CBBs alongside poor availability even at high prices has people very gunshy about opening the product for value. I don’t blame them.

The Rebecca Guay [[Galadriel Light of Valenor]] seems to have bottomed around $30 for the regular version on TCG, now close to $40 and up. Surge foil remains in the $130-150 range. No movement on the reprint for [[Mithril Coat]]. I think these are Collector Box exclusives, I think their prices will only go up given there isn't any new supply coming in anymore. I've heard of delays on Play boosters but not on Collector Boxes, but I could be wrong.

Card Kingdom will take your sealed

This is the way! So awesome!

I have a [[Garth One Eye]] deck that I want to add an Oracle to. My goal is to get alpha versions of all of Garth’s spells. The Oracle with Power 9 (those I will proxy) will be the pinnacle!

slackerdx02

It won’t pay rent but it will feed the hobby. Congrats OP. Let him enjoy his gains.

slackerdx02

Probably some RDW with lightning bolt, goblin guide, monastery swift spear, etc.

slackerdx02

In for a case! One of each to display, one for play, one to hold!

I see playable RL continuing to go up: duals, Cradle, Mox, Wheel, Earthcraft, etc.

I don’t know what will cause something like Time Walk to suddenly spike the way Mox Diamond and LED did this year. It’s the best version of its effect but you can only really collect it. It would take a new format becoming popular. Maybe it will be a grail like with comic books (Amazing Fantasy 15, Action Comics 1, etc). Nobody buys the comics to read just as no one buys a Time Walk to play it.

I think playable RL will grow faster and is more accessible financially (for now) than the grail cards (P9, Juzam Djinn, Library of Alexandria). I personally like that I can use them. The playables will lead the market. After a period of growth there, the grails will adjust up. It will take people who don’t think a Cradle should cost more than a Library to start buying them up.

I know this is an old thread but is there anyway someone can put the explanation into Reddit? I don’t have Facebook.

slackerdx02

I agree with this. If you want a NM version then get it ASAP. In a few years, your HP copy will be worth what a NM version is worth now but the NM copy will also go up.

It looks like Smokey. He has cataracts and is going blind. He lives near SE 7th and SE 5th. I let the owner know.

slackerdx02

They really power crept [[Tranquility]]???!!!!

slackerdx02

Alpha will always be the original. There will be players and collectors who will want the first cards. I love picking up even Alpha basics. How else do you get people at the table excited about playing a basic land?

slackerdx02

Good take.

I think WOTC's strategy is to power creep the vintage market away while leaving the Reserved List intact. Some cards/effects are so simple that they can't do this (Ancestral Recall, Time Walk), but those are cards that are game warping anyway. They can do variations and conditional versions that make the game more interesting.

Look at [[Gilded Drake]] vs [[Volatile Stormdrake]], generally good enough to take scary creatures and commanders early in the game. I think they'll continue to introduce new mechanics to make powerful effects affordable and accessible for new players. The new cards can also be serialized, get special foiling, and be reprinted later in bonus slots to sell new boxes.

There are enough fetchable lands now that dual lands are not needed except for Vintage, Legacy, and maybe cEDH. Even in cEDH, I don't think losing 2 life on a shock is that big of a loss and certainly not enough to justify the price premium to anyone but the most hardcore players. I am prepared for the Ad Naus players to correct me, but the point is that they are close enough as it is for casual players to be fine without dual lands (or to proxy them if they really want to spike out).

The first set released after I started playing was Alliances. I bought many packs of Fallen Empires, Homelands, and Ice Age to scratch the pack cracking itch. Even I am questioning the financial safety of an investment in a set of Revised duals, something of a holy grail for me since childhood. I own a [[Mox Diamond]] as the crown jewel of my collection for now, but don't feel as sure that it will continue to appreciate in value as it did in the past.

How much longer will reserved list cards remain the gold standard for Magic trading cards? What will replace duals as the best place to park equity in the game? Modern staples used to be it, but with Modern Horizons, nothing stays playable for long except fetches and shocks.

They had a massive Rogue barbell jack when I was there yesterday.

I like that there are more squat racks.

I think the error was putting that area on the second floor. Apparently someone was in there doing heavy cleans and dropping the weight from the receiving position, which was disruptive to the whole gym so they had to talk to the guy.

Also agree that the deadlift platforms being next to glass was a poor decision.

slackerdx02

That will keep happening. Later in the series, you’ll learn more and it will make you want to re-read Gardens because you know you missed stuff.

The whole series is like this. You don’t get to know everything until you read it 2-3 times (or it gets spoiled for you). I’ve only done one read through and was frustrated with Gardens as well. Deadhouse Gates broke my heart, then Memories of Ice did it again, and on and on.

Push through Gardens, it has an awesome convergence of power (you’ll see that as a theme in the series as well).

slackerdx02

Were you able to save your kick sensor? I want a hitch primarily for a bike rack but if I’m gonna do it, may as well have all options available so I’ll likely do the OEM so it sits higher.

I didn’t think the kick sensor was a big deal but now that I have it, I use it all the time.
