This was very well thought out and considerate advice, thank you so much. Honestly I’m worried about the weight of the added water pulling the sink down and causing structural damage. Thankfully, there’s no leaking where the pipes are.
I have a drain snake somewhere around that I’m gonna try using first, honestly I’m kind of worried something bad is going to happen if I turn on the disposal 😅 Such a bummer tomorrow of all days I have somewhere to be earlyish in the morning, but I’m going to the front office as soon as they open tomorrow morning and requesting emergency maintenance.
If my unit was in a more convenient location I’d just go outside to dump the water somewhere. I’m in an upstairs unit with many hallways and it would take several long trips to get all the water out. Might have to be my last resort if no luck with maintenance, since I don’t have a bucket or anything similar that could hold that much water.
Thank you again so much for your advice, this helped me feel better now that I feel I have a solid plan in place 🙏

Subletting applies to multiple forms of renting out a space, including what you mentioned above (for example, renting a home from a landlord/property owner and flipping it into an airbnb). However, subletting also includes renting out a space in an apartment/home that you also occupy (like OP’s situation here). Basically, subletting means you are renting a space to a tenant that is not listed on the lease. If you own the property you are renting out, that’s a different story.
Even more tricky, subletting is often illegal in most cases, as most properties have policies in place that forbid subletting, so it’s almost never a good idea to get your landlord involved. As the leaseholder, you have landlord rights over your subletter and have the power to evict them yourself (not in all states, but at least that was the case where I lived).

Damn that’s unfortunate sorry OP, I’ve been there. Some people aren’t meant to live together, all you can try to do is work it out but sometimes it just doesn’t work. Curious to know what your landlord said after asking about subletting? Even if they aren’t explicitly aware there’s a 4th tenant, it’s possible they suspect as much if you’re asking about it, but that’s just a guess lol.
Regardless of what your landlord’s policies are on subletting, you should look up the subletting laws in your state. I used to live in CA and was subletting my spare bedroom at the time, and had to kick out my roommate for refusing to pay their portion of the utilities. Subletting laws are tricky there, but ultimately without there being a written agreement they essentially had no rights to stay (even with the 14 day tenant rights). The master tenant (or leaseholder) has the same rights as a landlord essentially, therefore even though the subletting tenant still has tenant rights, they can still be evicted by the leaseholder by means of eviction. The leaseholder needs to follow the same laws a landlord would, by providing a 30 day written notice. If they refuse to cooperate, you then can file an unlawful detainer (eviction) lawsuit. Usually they’ll leave if the 30 day notice is written professionally and looks official, or at the very least after they’ve been served unlawful detainer papers. But if all else fails, after filing for an eviction lawsuit you can have a sheriff escort them out as a last resort.
But definitely encourage you to do research on the laws in your state, and then go from there. From the looks of things, I think drafting a 30 day notice would be your best bet in this case, and you should provide thorough documentation of reasons you’re evicting them, and also look into the reasons you can evict someone in your state.
I hope this helps you at all, and I wish you the best of luck! Roommates can be a nightmare, all of this reminds me of how grateful I am to live alone now 😮💨

Nice those Huion’s look super cool! Affordability wise I’d stick to a drawing tablet vs an iPad (i got lucky and got my iPad for free from my sister since she didn’t use it anymore lol). If you’re waiting on your parents to help you out with a nicer option, in the meantime I’d snag a new Wacom Intuos since they’re only about $40 and it gives you something to use to digitize your current artwork for now! Idk what program you use, but I highly recommend Clip Studio Paint! That’s my all-time fave 💫
As far as I know, character design is where it’s at commission wise, as that’s what seems to be in the highest demand. I myself am not a character designer so I’m not super familiar with the territory, but just searching “character design commissions” pulls up a lot of different platforms to sell on! Having socials with your work is helpful too just so you have an easily accessible portfolio, and having a ton of followers isn’t necessary unless you’re only selling on social media.
I hope this is somewhat helpful, and I wish you luck on your drawing adventures!

Try selling commissions tailored to specific fandom(s). Fanart commissions (especially ones on the cheaper side) sell really well in those communities, especially when you draw someone’s favorite character with that person.
The most commissions I ever sold was when I was in the MHA community, most of the commissions I did were of the commissioner with their favorite character or their favorite ship (you can check that out on instagram to see some examples, my account was @/leafydraws).
Honestly I think your work isn’t bad at all, and I’ve seen people sell commissions with less skill than yourself. My advice is to focus on contrast, as your colors are pretty flat. Go deeper with your darker colors and your shadows. You got this! 💫

So the 3 of you are on the lease with the 4th subletting right? I would first try talking with them all, have a meeting with everyone together, and the two of you can express how the couple has been making things unlivable for you guys. Express the reasons, and then give them an ultimatum. Either we can all live in peace and coexist, or we go to the landlord.
However, it sounds like your landlord already knows and has greenlit the sublease agreement, so idk how much your ultimatum holds water. All in all, try to work out an agreement with them first before you make any decisions.

I’m seeing this for the first time so I have little context into what’s happened. BUT: if you were feeling unimportant and disconnected from your partner, it sounds like ending things was the right call. Especially if you’re feeling relief after, that’s a huge tell that it was time to leave. Good luck on your future endeavors as well lol

You’ve got such a cool style! Love the way you stylize characters. I think you’d find success in the character building side of the commission world. Book authors, game developers, webtoon creators, etc, these types are folks are usually the ones who commission artists to help bring their characters to life, and I think you’d find some work over there!
Unfortunately, most of those are looking for someone who can digitize their work as well. What kind of tablet are you looking to get? There’s some really affordable options out there, and before I switched to my iPad, I used a Wacom Manga tablet for 11 years and it worked super well for me at the time.

Honestly, I think you’re super close to a great painting (i actually really like this so far tbh). I think the biggest issue is that there’s not much depth, so it makes it hard to tell how big the string art thing is.
Try adding some people from the ref! Even just little dabs of color for the people i think will really help with showing how big the string art is. I’d also add a little bit more light blue at the top right of the string art, since that seems to be where most of the light is hitting it in the ref. Hope this helps, i think you’re so so close to really liking this :)

Yeahhhh that sounds about right

Replace it with a TV of equal value. Anything more than that IS her taking advantage of you. Especially lying about the size…

I only had to read to the third line to be convinced he was in the wrong: “we have hung out twice in about a week, both times were playing golf”. That’s not even a date wth. Idc if you like golf but that’s a terrible first date idea (unless you’re both really into golf then go off??)
Sounds like he’s really into hedge funds tho he should date one of those.

So you planned your birthday trip to Japan (that was probably very expensive) and set a date for the trip at least 2 months before the wedding announcement. And your brother was aware of said birthday trip before he made their announcement? I’d say that you’re underreacting if anything! I’m so pissed for you rn.
If I was in your hypothetical shoes I would’ve been bummed I was gonna miss my brother’s wedding, because if I planned my birthday trip abroad ahead of time then I’m not canceling that for bad scheduling. And he should’ve (and definitely could’ve!) chosen a different date.
Note: hindsight is 20/20 and I’m not dogging on you for the decision you made. It’s much easier for me to type this out than it is for you to actually live through it.

Ohhhh my. NOR. This guy should’ve listened the first time you said “not interested”, or at the very least the first 3 times?? Why would you keep pursuing someone you know is not interested in you, and not even sexually attracted to your gender?
And to hold ‘possibly’ being trans over your head? It’s fucked up honey. Sounds like he stopped viewing you as a friend over a year ago and somewhere along the way, you’ve morphed into an object he must obtain.
There are 8 billion people out in the world, and there are lots of those people out there who are future friends you just haven’t made yet. You got this, & you did the right thing
sneakyysalad
NOR, dodged a bullet with this one. Why would he tell his entire family he’s “bringing someone” who HE HIMSELF has never met in person? Is he that desperate? And he thought “If I guilt her into staying with me by introducing her to my entire family, she HAS to keep dating me!” Absolutely tf not. Should’ve just accepted the reschedule dude.

Firstly, take a deep breath. Now, give yourself a break. 4 months is only the beginning! Learning a new skill takes time, and for learning to draw the progress you see is nonlinear, everyone will see improvement at different points in their journey. But I’m sure that what you’re drawing now is better than where you started.
Now for some advice:
For head studies: instead of drawing the loomis method (the head studies you drew above) from memory, I’d instead take photos of real people online (I recommend Pinterest) and trace over them using the loomis method. Do this as an exercise, so several times over and over with multiple people, different face shapes, different angles, etc. This helps your brain start to map out what goes where. Here’s my example to help you get an idea of what I mean (I add a couple of things to the loomis method so that I get a better understanding of where different facial features sit in relation to one another)
I think everyone’s advice here regarding boxes and perspective is pretty spot on. I’m more of a portrait artist and focus the most on drawing faces/the human body so I figured I’d add in my thought based on what I know! I’ve been drawing for over 14 years, and learned the hard way (avoiding different drawing tips and methods like the loomis method) and instead drew memes and silly stuff until I went to art school. I hope this helps you in anyway, and I wish you the best on your artistic journey! 🫶🏼
Edit: one of my art teachers always emphasized adding the neck when you’re drawing faces, even for practice! She said “No one wants to see a floating head!” But really, she meant that it helps you better map out the perspective of the head, and helps you build up to eventually drawing the body.

Emmy Rossum (aka Fiona from Shameless) IMMEDIATELY came to mind! Side note: you are so pretty! 🫶🏼

For sure see this, especially in the eyes and nose!

It’s funny because both my exes couldn’t be more opposite, both physical appearance wise and personality wise lol.
But yes, I’ve unfortunately been with a fair share of men who were more interested in my physical appearance than who I am as a person 🫠

That’s such a sweet first meeting 🥺 Definitely love a hike in the winter months (I’m in the Phoenix area so it gets quite toasty here) so maybe I’ll give that a try when it cools down! Also a big lover of pottery and anything creative, and I’ve always wanted to try a pottery class. A friend of mine goes to one regularly, maybe I can see if they allow plus ones to the class or see if I can join her sometime. Thank you for the advice! :)

I think you’re onto something here 😅 taking the time to get into group activities will hopefully give me enough time for my trust to rebuild as well. Thank you for the advice 🫶🏼

This is also true unfortunately. Ironically enough it’s often this type of man that’s usually the one who ends up cheating (red-pill type of guys immediately come to mind).
sneakyysalad
I’m sorry, they want to see pics of you before meeting you for the first time?? That’s weird af. If you two were dating that’d be a bit more understandable, but this is a NEW friend, not even a friend you’ve had for a long time. (Which would still be a weird ask imo)
NTA!! In fact, your “friend” is an asshole for asking you to send another pic that “doesn’t make you look bad” and by proxy siding with her friends who are essentially making fun of you. Which is f**cked up by the way!
IMO: dump her as a friend, and stay away from people like them who belittle you based on looks without even getting to know you first.

Unfortunately this is my only sink besides my bathroom sink, and I don’t feel comfortable pouring food waste water down my bathroom sink 🫠 I live in a 4 level apartment building for reference. Tomorrow morning I’m going to try and get someome from the maintenance team out to fix it, hopefully that’ll work out.
Unfortunately my only other option is to make several long trips to the bottom level to dump the water outside, but going to try everything else I can first lol.
