This isn’t something new. The US has lagged behind most 1st world countries in Math for decades. Where we excel is recruiting talent with strong math backgrounds from all other the world to come work for American companies. That’s why these new restrictions on H1B visas and the President’s general fight against immigrants is so chilling. He doesn’t realize that a large part of our success is from immigrants. As a felon, this is why I busted my a** to become a software engineer. If anyone ever fires me or doesn't hire me because of my past, I have so many other companies clamoring to hire me regardless of my past. Also, California has some pretty amazing laws around preventing this kind of prejudice in the hiring process.

WHEN you get good you WILL get a decent job.

I say that because I did it. It just takes time man. For me, it took a lot of time.

Stick with it, keep learning and challenging yourself and you WILL get a job.

I would recommend an in-person coding bootcamp. Just worry about learning everything you can about JavaScript and you'll be all set brother.
