Worse: places like the Beach House in Falmouth who contaminate the whole beach with their shit music.

You can use something like this rather than permanent silicone

Seems bonkers. Falmouth town is a 10% increase and we're band C so the overall increase is 140 quid a year, half yours.

spaceghost0r

When you say 10% is that the town council part? In Falmouth we're looking at about 140 quid a year extra overall for band C.

spaceghost0r

But even £300 a year sounds like too much, it should only be a 5% increase.

spaceghost0r

Did they break down the £600 increase? Band D should be less than £100 a year more so something doesn’t see right, unless I’ve missed something.

spaceghost0r

What finishes are better? I’m looking at a powder coated one right now

Easily the worst fish and chip shop in Falmouth. Almost inedible chips.

I have also done this project and it nearly broke me. I followed this:

https://www.instructables.com/Under-Stairs-Hidden-Storage-Drawers/

He creates a frame under the stairs and fits the drawers to that. Most of the things I've seen subsequently build a housing in a workshop then slot that under the stairs with all the drawer runners already attached and test-fit in a workshop. The latter approach is absolutely the one I'd recommend and seems to be the one the OP used.

A couple of random tips if you're thinking of this:

  • I wouldn't use those Krug runners again as I found them a bit stiff
  • Design your drawers so they are not too large. You'll often see two drawers, one above the other, rather than one massive "pantry" style drawer. This optimises storage but also makes the drawers lighter so you can use cheaper runners and makes them more manageable/easy to use.

Brilliant work OP, you've made a difficult job look fantastic.

When you say declarative flatpak, is there a tool for this? How do you handle flatpak configuration, i.e. declarative config for each app?

spaceghost0r

Looks really interesting!

I think my issue with Silverblue (and uBlue) can be seen here:

https://ublue.it/making-your-own/#resist-the-urge-to-add-the-entire-universe

Systems like this are designed for a small, lean, mean, maintainable, and performant core. Remember that updates to the base image require a reboot, so ideally you want that surface area to be small - let Flatpak handle the rest.

This means that you're not really setting up your entire system in a new image, you're creating a base upon which to install and configure lots of Flatpaks. That defeats the purpose to me, since I want to codify that app config somewhere too.

spaceghost0r

That looks pretty hardcore. Ease of use is one of the things I'm looking for and while TinyCoreLinux looks really interesting I'm not sure it's for me. Thanks for your comment though.

spaceghost0r

That's interesting to hear, thank you.

spaceghost0r

This is a new one for me! Thank you!

spaceghost0r

Thanks - I think that's half of it, the "clean slate" part. People use tmpfs for this too, which is what I've done in the past. The configuration aspect is the other half!

spaceghost0r

Seems a little like middleware, so can definitely see a use case for this!

You may or may not be aware of the Remix proposal for middleware which also describes how context would be introduced:

https://github.com/remix-run/react-router/discussions/9564

Either way great job!

spaceghost0r

Definitely, I’m strongly in favour of this model.

spaceghost0r

Zod, used to use Yup but switched for reasons I don’t remember. I think I just liked the style of it a bit more.

spaceghost0r

I can't rave about Remix enough, it's been a revelation. The use of loaders and actions in with the component and the way it blends server and client side is something I'm surprised more people aren't talking about. I realise NextJS is somewhat similar but having used both Next is clunky in comparison to Remix.

The only thing I'd like to see is more transparency in regard to their roadmap.

spaceghost0r

We use react-hook-form.

spaceghost0r

Finns, The Kings, Jacobs Ladder, Chintz, and Hillbillies all used to have gigs on the regular.

You could look into buying a boat. It's not for everyone, obviously, because you're sacrificing space. You'll still have to pay mooring fees and the truism about boats being expensive to maintain obviously applies. You could combine it with an allotment maybe?
