Right now I see AMD as the only X86 manufacture to make significant progress to a modern processor in the short term. Intel might be rebooted to come out with competitive designs in the future, but I don't see them getting there until 2028.
As for Apple the biggest problem with NEO is the limits on RAM. AS long as they are using the cell phone processors the NEO will not be an ideal AI platform. That said it might be better than anything else in its price range. Neo already comes up short for advance users due to the RAM limitations. While a 12 GB version will be a massive improvement, it is still going to be too little by the time it launches.

If AMD or Intel for that matter, could they would have designed better cores. The reality doesn't reflect your opinion, especially when you consider the power required to get there. X86 just has too much legacy support to ever evolve in a positive direction.
The reason ARM is faster is that Apple had a much cleaner architecture to work with. The evidence is right in front of you.

Nice post! Very nice pics.
Frankly your post highlights why I call these sorts of telescopes to be special purpose devices. A 30mm objective simply doesn't offer a lot of astro photograph flexibility. Frankly you can get larger objectives for common mirrorless cameras these days.
Given that these photos demonstrate clearly what the telescopes can do which should really help people trying to make a purchase decision.

Interesting project.
Concerns:
Why have the on/off switch drive a FET? Why not just use a real switch? It would be one thing if there was multiple ways to cycle power but this just looks like a job for a switch.
Questions:
Is this going to be an open source project? I never had much interest in Geiger counters but it looks like Putin intends to make having such a unit extremely useful. By the way, this is another device where building in some solar cells to recharge the unit might be a good idea.
Your Muller Tube is mounted right on the PCB which is a bit of a surprise. One is that I'd have concern about the near by electronics interference . The other issue is that protection of the tube would be better accomplished with a purpose designed holder.

I had a laugh here thinking that this might be middle schoolers notebook.

Nice workmanship.
However these sorts of drill bit cases are terrible for small diameter drills. In fact finding a good way to store them in a portable way is a challenge.
In any event that isn't the point of the project. If you want to make something more valuable for some jobs, make a case for Eze-outs and the corresponding drill bits. The parts are bigger in diameter and less subject to loss. Further the corresponding drill and Eze-out often get separated in odd ways. Spent a lifetime in machine maintenance and repair, eventually purchased a case for the left hand drill bits and the Eze-outs.

Are we even sure that this will end up being a budget option? I actually see this quickly becoming a late to the party processor. The reason is simple, modern hardware will required support for AI hardware and specialization in the GPU cores. This is one of the factors that is making Apple processors so successful, the hardware is balanced looking forward.
spinwizard69
Apple and frankly a couple of other companies, have proven beyond any doubt that you can get better cores for far less power going ARM. I just purchased an M6 Mini and frankly this thing is shocking as to how fast it is without ever turning on the fan. Sure some of that is the GPU and other specialized execution units but the ARM cores still impresses with single threaded ARM code.
Now that doesn't mean that AMD will do a high performance ARM core, the could screw it up. If they did though I'm hoping the pull head from behind and actually support the processor on Linux. Other ARM processor developers have dramatically dropped the ball with respect to Linux. If they have entered into an agreement with MicroSoft to prevent the support of other OS'es then the product will effectively be dead out of the box.

Or wait a month or two and it will be on discount through the normal retailers.
spinwizard69
Actually it makes sense. Software that is going to actually leverage an AI or GPU core is also software that needs more RAM. This is actually a sensible move on Apples part.

Unless of course your goal is intelligent boobs.

It is sad really. People knock Elon but he is practically going broke building factories all over the planet. Sure there is risk to invest like Elon does but look at the pay offs for things that actually worked.
spinwizard69
Yeah a valuable company that can't invest. a $ in hardware manufacturing. Apple partners with the iPhome manufactures but have done nothing with the semi conductor manufactures to actually own some production.
spinwizard69
There may be good reason for using a slower refresh. Frankly I see people making a nothing burger over this, there are other more damaging aspect to the iPad line up. For example the locked down OS does Apple more harm than good for this product.
spinwizard69
Oh and don't spend a $ on R&D outside of what they absolutely have to. Just imagine where we would be with humanoid robots and AI, if Apple has spent 1% of it income over the last decade on robotics. Instead it is left for Tesla, a few startups in the USA and many companies in China.
I actually like Tesla as a company but this was an obvious market for Apple for a very long time. Eventually I can see much of the PC and cell phone market replaced by robots.
spinwizard69
OK who really cares about promotion?
spinwizard69
Nice! Really nice hardware but a no buy as long as the machine is so locked down. I really wish Apple would pull head from butt and realize their OS policies make it impossible to implement the iPad in low volume application's.
spinwizard69
Both! I mean really you go with the best option for a reliable heaters. In some cases you have no choice but to go back to the builder of the machine because of odd fitting issues. However for nozzle extensions and other bands, that are easily replaced with generic stuff why not,. Around the nozzle you are often better off with cheap because the heaters there seldom die from wear. They generally die from manufacturing not keeping an eye on the machine and then the nozzle leaks for hours.
spinwizard69
OK it is cross platform but with what GUI? I didn't have a lot of time to review the site but it wasn't clear at all what the project offers up. For example using Swift on Linux has been a thing for years as long as you don't want to build a GUI app. Beyond that can the cross compiler target stand alone platforms? The first thing I think about with cross compilers is developing software for embedded programs, does the suite handle this sort of development.
spinwizard69
Interesting but what a crap web site. Nothing really goes into detail as to its cross platform capability.
spinwizard69
The funny thing here is that CyberTruck is safer for most pedestrians than the pickups from the big 3. With the CybereTruck there is some potential of roll up over the windshield, with the common pickup these days it is all blunt force trauma.
spinwizard69
I'm hoping that they can address some of the issues that make CyberTruck no go for many of us. Largely this means addressing the entry prices and range issues. Frankly get rid of the Stainless Steel anywhere where is does no good. I'd be perfectly happy with the same sort of plastic panels used on CyberCab for example. Anything to lower cost and pare weight.

True most of us have trouble with $20 much less 20% of a company. However is a good portion of gun owners grouped together to own a piece of Ruger they would be able to influence the organization. Effectively the owners are the ones that ultimately direct a company.
As for Ruger I really don't know how bad the business situation is there. The extreme attack on the revolver line seems like something Berreta would pursue. However it really sounds like Ruger pursued the agreement with Beretta due to financial reasons.
This whole thing does worry me because more than half the guns I own are Ruger.
spinwizard69
Carry a shot gun if there is a serious threat from things outside of bears. Bears seldom attack humans to eat them, other animals though will hunt you and may not be impacted by bear spray. Wild dogs, other canine and mountain lions can be very aggressive under the right conditions.
Around here about the only thing to worry about are wild dogs and coyotes. Frankly the idea of defending against a pack of those with a hand gun is a bit un-nerving.
While I agree it is fantastic for some beginners it does little for visual observing and frankly that can catch the interest of many. this is why I consider it to be a special purpose machine. Great for people that understand it and have a bent towards photography.
Even then I have to consider a mirrorless camera, with interchangeable lens, on a tracking mount to be more versatile.
