It’s always been a thing to take your kids to a nicer area if you can. Like I’m in my 40’s and we trick or treated by my house, and then went to the nicer area to get the full sized bar. It’s not a new thing.

sraydenk

Yeah, kiddo is 7 and we pulled back the last two months. Not because I don’t think reading is important. It’s been a difficult year. I’m a teacher in my kids district. The district had a bad financial year last year and cut some positions. This year they are down to bare bones resources and there is a chance more cuts will happen this year. I’m low in seniority and everyone at work is stressed.

Add in youth sports and by 7 pm when we are done for the day I’m beat. I’ve prioritized reading again, but some days I really really want to skip it.

sraydenk

But it’s ok to assume the worst of the dad here?

I’m just pointing out the hypocrisy.

sraydenk

I don’t know why I never thought to follow Raffi. I’m about 90% sure I like his music more than my kid.

sraydenk

Your parents a decide they don’t want to watch an infant and you would have to accept it.

My husbands older siblings had kids young, and we didn’t have kids until he was almost 40. By then his nieces and nephews were adults and my MIL had already watched multiple grandkids and was ready for a break. She watched our kid occasionally but nowhere near as often as she did for my husbands siblings. We never complained because we weren’t entitled to help.

I teach high school. No kid is peeing their pants. If it’s an emergency we figure it out. At the same time it’s perfectly reasonable for kids to wait a bit to go to the bathroom (excluding medical issues).

If it’s an issue for you, be an adult and email the teacher. That or google and look up why someone would need it in a a classroom.  Most people don’t want or wouldn’t read an explanation next to each item.

Let’s be real, if a teacher explained each item on the list it would get posted here or on Fb with the time “does my kid teacher think I’m dumb? Why do they feel they need to talk down to me and explain why my kid needs pencils”.

sraydenk

Or you could buy it if you can afford it.

A 200 box of pencils that costs $10? I know my kid looses shit all the time, so 200 isn’t that much. You don’t want the name brand, don’t buy it. But as an adult you likely have encountered the difference in quality from name brand and store brand. Also, you could just trust the teacher is asking for that brand for a reason. We don’t get kickbacks from big pencil when you buy name brand. We also won’t turn our noses up to store brand. But if you have ever used rose art versus crayola you would know why name brand is requested.

sraydenk

I say this kindly: how about just trusting that the teacher has it there for a good reason? And if you have questions….email the teacher? Though I can’t figure out why you would feel the need to find alternatives to basic supplies? Unscented lotion isn’t hard to find.

How is finding basic school supplies and lotion a scavenger hunt?

sraydenk

This post actually reminded me I need lotion for my classroom.

sraydenk

Honestly this is why I buy 3-4 extra of whatever is on the supplies list. At worst the teacher has extra for next year, but I figure there are a few parents that can’t or won’t supply what’s on the list.

sraydenk

As a teacher, thank you.

I don’t require much from parents. I buy  anything and everything for my daughter’s teacher. I have the means and I don’t want my kids teacher stressed about supplies. I also don’t think they are asking for supplies for shits and giggles. They aren’t profiting off of it, I trust it’s a need if a teacher is asking for it.

sraydenk

I’m a high school teacher and I go through a ton of lotion. I have it for myself and my students.

Real talk: you can find these for $1-3. How about just believing it’s a need and buy it? Trust me, the teacher isn’t profiting off of lotion purchases from supply lists.

Do you truly not see the difference between giving birth and donating an organ to someone? Take out the fact that we are taking about surrogacy, those are two very different things and aren’t equitable. One is an organ that is made to stay in your body and donating it will lower your quality of life. Having a child can do that too, but it’s not guaranteed. That’s not to downplay childbirth as a medical event, but it’s also not the same as donating an organ.

It is infantilizing women because you are limiting what they can do with their bodies. As I said, not all surrogacy situations are made out of desperation. You assuming you know better the motivations of adult women is infantilizing them.

I mean, maybe the OOPs dad was a twat and was in the wrong. It could be that neighbor was helping wife out and OOPs dad was ill and bitter about not being able to help more.

Relationships are complex and just because he died doesn’t mean he was a great person. We only know they didn’t get along so it’s hard to judge without more info.

sraydenk

I don’t think it’s fair to expect people to read a post, then search out all the replies before commenting.

Again, if it’s a repeated question that changes things why not update the original post?

sraydenk

Mom was scrolling in the phone to the point they missed the kid almost rolling off furniture. The Op says MiL oversteps all the time and acts like they are the primary parent.

The eye roll was the straw that broke the camels back. They don’t need MIL to watch the kid, and honestly stopping her from doing childcare likely will help their relationship. They don’t need to justify their decision to us, and it appears the current setup is poisoning their relationship so it makes sense to not want childcare that they can’t trust.

sraydenk

If a mom asking for their kid back causes a natural reaction if rolling your eyes, then you aren’t mature enough to watch your grandchild.  A mom wanting their kid back to change a diaper shouldn’t be an issue. Maybe you/grandmother didn’t feel the diaper needed to be changed, but mom did so what’s the issue?

Why assume there is more and the DIL is the issue, when the Op clearly has said there is a pattern of MIL not being great?

sraydenk

If you want to be a part of a village you need to treat the villagers with kindness and respect.

No one wants a village full of villagers that undermine you and make you feel like crap.  Better to have a smaller village of people you trust and care than a large village that only makes your life harder.

sraydenk

They don’t want help if it means they are undermined and family is rude.  Thats the whole point of this post.

If you expect to be a part of a village you have to treat the villagers with respect and kindness.

sraydenk

Or they recognize that issue and and free childcare for one day isn’t worth it if MIL is going to behave the way she’s behaving.

sraydenk

Doesn’t matter. If I ask for my baby back, rolling of the eyes is rude and not ok.

sraydenk

I would love it.  How does that work?

sraydenk

It looks to me like the OP closed their car door with their skirt in it, moved, and ripped their skirt. All while having it unbuttoned.

sraydenk

Also, it’s not the DIL job to facilitate a relationship ship between her husband and the OP. It seems he doesn’t want to contact the OP or his dad.

Also, what is “come over between 10-12 on the 6th a negative example? You were given a time to come over, likely one that works around naps and their day to day life.
