Being able to turn off comprehension is highly underrated.

Truecrypt

Indeed. It was pretty messed up. Not sure why it's working again now. Literally nothing has changed
stagerabbit
Interesting, turned it on its side today and my SSD idle temps shot up 5 - 8 degrees, I guess because the heat sinks are now facing down?

30 years ago. But yeah. I think it was just an excuse to not have trash bins, since recycling bins are all over the place. Or do they just think Japanese terrorists are too polite to put their nerve gas bombs in incorrect bin?

If the RAM wasn't SODIMM, I would have done that.
stagerabbit
You have to be able to get into BIOS to do that, and mine was going haywire with random characters appearing on the screen, even when I could get BIOS open
stagerabbit
Yeah, if only cars had some identifying number or something attached to them, this tragedy could have been avoided.
stagerabbit
Mine was doing stuff like that but failed at the 13 month mark, so if you're at two years, that might just be normal Windows stuff
stagerabbit
My issue is more intermittent than that. Initially, one power cycle in ten failed. Then it was more like one in twenty was successful. When it was on the fritz, I usually couldn't even get into the BIOS and if I did, it locked after 30 seconds or so. In those cases the only things plugged in were monitor and keyboard.
In your case, yes, it sounds like a wonky device or USB bus.
stagerabbit
If that was the case, I'm not sure why having it sit vertically for six months fixed it.
Also, if it was the liquid metal, it should crash while it's running, not only on restart/startup, right?

I live in Japan and have done months long trips back to Canada to visit family. I bought inexpensive padded plastic HDD cases and bunged them in my checked luggage, no problem. Not sure about your duty free limits carrying them back, so I'd unpack them, register the warranty, scan proof of purchase, etc. and then only bring the drives back in the cases I mentioned.
stagerabbit
💯% this. Start by telling hotels that they're not allowed to copy my ID when I register and if they do note down the number, they need to destroy that a certain number of days after I've left.

Hardware is King in Japan. UX is designed by engineers with little idea what's intuitive and who have an RTFM attitude. It's part of the same cultural attitude that holds back accessibility. I work in a building designed and built in 2007 that doesn't have accessible toilets. If you have a disability or lack of knowledge, well, that's on you.
This attitude wasn't unique to Japan among developed nations 30 years ago (look at website and printer interfaces from that time (e.g. The infamous PS LOAD LETTER), but it's becoming increasingly so.

Where? One of my workplaces gave a much touted raise after 12 years and it worked out to less than 17 yen per hour extra. I guess it's a record for Japan . . .

It's amazing how many racists here speak English.

There are staff that will pretend nothing is happening. There. Fixed that for you. Once had a yankii type old man go off on me in a sushi shop for a perceived slight, and the staff just pretended nothing was happening.

Where are you, two pairs and I'll split the shipping costs

In a shindo 7 earthquake, good luck moving. Maybe at a snail's pace on your hands and knees.

Hate self-checkout machines, love the cashier+automatic payment terminals. Sometimes two to cashier so they can hand me off to one and start scanning the next customer.

Beat a suspect? That's fine. Racially profile bicycle riders? All right. Kill a detainee? Okay! Hit a protestor with a baton? Go for it! But screwing in the station house is the line?
I'd rather the cops be making the Sargeant with two backs than out oppressing us. It could be a whole new acab that I could get behind: all cops are boning.

If you have time to put up a sign about bugger all You have time to be the first against the wall.
As someone running one that puts out 2-4 creations per year, this is screwing me over badly.
