It will bring over all apps, including third party apps like Office. However, you’ll need to activate Office on the new computer. Usually that means signing in with your Microsoft account.

Thanks, I ran into this today. I ran the excellent tool at www.office-reset.com, uninstalled office, reinstalled the last good version, and then unchecked the auto updater. Slightly different procedure from you but it worked.

What have you done to troubleshoot the issue so far besides verify that another device is not affected? Hold option and click on the WiFi icon. What signal, noise, and tx rate values do you get? Are you connecting at 2.4, 5, or 6ghz? Can you connect over Ethernet as a test?

If you are getting it for free or very low cost, and keep the usage light, you can do this. Just be aware that the the latest OS it can run is Monterey, so you may have to hunt around for older versions of software. The latest versions of Word and Chrome require newer versions of macOS.

That command enrolls a Mac into mobile device management, meaning full control over the device. If you didn’t do that, then everything on the Mac is controllable by your husband.

Could be a bad drive. Those white MacBooks might be before Internet Recovery was a thing (it's pretty broken on older hardware anyway). This has a DVD drive, right? If so, with another computer you can burn an ISO/.cdr of Snow Leopard to a DVD and boot from that. Then you can get into Disk Utility and see if the hard drive has issues, potentially repair it or erase it and reinstall Mac OS X.
