It’s funny to learn about perception of figures like that. Like until a few years ago I thought that Guy Fawkes Day was in celebration of Guy Fawkes. Usually a revolution against a corrupt and oppressive government is viewed positively in a historical context.

Especially considering how few AAA games have come out this generation. It barely even feels like we’re half-way through this current console cycle.

The entire PS5 console generation, Astro Bot is the only game exclusive to it that I consider a must play. I’m absolutely not going to pay anywhere near $1000 for a console with no guarantee there will be any games I care about on it. And that’s even without considering that it will be discless; that considered, there’s absolutely no way in Hell.

It’s kind of fruitless to argue about the efficacy of hurting slowpokes in a franchise centered around making said animals fight each other, don’t you think?

Yeah, that is pretty silly. Though I understand the connection. I mean there were soviet clone consoles of the Famicom, and the Famicom had basic internet capabilities. I even remember there were some highly viewed video essays on both topics that came out maybe a year before SJG so it was on people’s minds. It is ridiculous though. I don’t think normally this alone would have garnered such a negative reaction, but iir there was some restructuring to the GG format around 2019 that people were already a but annoyed by.

Yeah, I guess I was conflating discussions that happened a couple of years later with the reaction at the time, but I did find a number of comments on YouTube expressing concern and confusion over the authorship, including some comparing it to Soviet Jump Game.

That’s just what some people were saying. I don’t think it’s true either but I think the idea was in people’s heads because the book wasn’t long after the AI completes stories power hour. At any rate that’s not the important part, it’s that nobody knew who the book was written by.
