The state is compelled by law to backstop medicaid, regardless of how much money a county has, in this case it is forced by law. The department of DD provides ample services and assistance to those with a medicaid waiver, unfortunately that excludes anyone who doesn't qualify welfare already.
Last I did the numbers my family paid about 500 bucks a year to a department of disabilities, which does nothing for my disabled child. Why would I want to pay for families that qualify for welfare already, when I already need to pay for my non-verbal disabled teenager for the rest of his life?
techzilla
Increasing labor limits wages, even if you pay somewhat reasonably.
techzilla
They still have a society in which they see themselves as a singular people, unity and cohesion is their strength, and thus their people do not distrust each other.
techzilla
Not many so far, the ones that did have no lasting power. What happened to prompt engineer? Gone.
techzilla
Can we do the latter, but not the eco part?
techzilla
Big tech firms pay those salaries to make sure you don't flee to a direct competitor and hand away trade secrets. The developer is directly creating the product in that industry, that is why they pay so much, they need to pay for loyalty.
techzilla
Orthodox Shul, and we don't hang political or national flags.
techzilla
You're a shit engineer though, because you never had a skill to lose in the first place, do you really think your betters can't out prompt you?
techzilla
What would I do in that situation? Depends on the company itself, is someone doing what you want to do there? Do the reports and then help the person doing what you want to do.
techzilla
I also see this going the way of a micro-computing revolution for AI.
techzilla
You might be kinda dense, but last I checked solving those problems was actually incredibly difficult. That is why people used to study so hard to do it whenever necessary. You didn't say CS was useful for some other reason, you claimed that it would help you be more productive using an LLM, which is completely baseless.
techzilla
The sort of information you learned in CS is exactly what the model doesn't screw up. It can solve Islands perfectly, there is no greater magnitude of productivity for that task.

Local hosting would protect your business model far better, and would prevent being held hostage by a handful of companies. A home user cannot truly take advantage of that now, due to cost of hardware, but it really isn't that hard to do for a company. The software moat isn't as deep as you presume it is, especially today.
"It further requires that there be no regulations making it infeasible for a business to host "foreign AI"."
Nvidia and the hardware vendors don't want that, it's the reason it hasn't happened already, and I'm not seeing any reason they would want that. It means no microcomputing revolution for AI, OpenAI/Anthropic might not have future growth strategies that far out, but Nvidia and Microsoft do.
techzilla
Existing engineers have jobs, but the demand for more engineers has dried up fast.
techzilla
Bro... I know you want that, but it's over.
techzilla
The problem is that almost anyone can do that.
techzilla
Why study crap that LLMs can just poop out for you?
techzilla
Bro... doctor is protected from market forces, technology forces, foreign and even domestic competition. This is the reason they must be paid obscene levels of money, and all the gatekeeping was added because they are so protected everyone would want to be one. They are GD out of control right now.
". Can you code with an low/average IQ? Yes. Will you be great at it? I don't believe so. "
Claude makes them good enough now, so nobody needs to pay us a premium as often.
" SWE will be respected again. There is a reason that companies are popping up to do AI code cleanup services. "
O no, those days are over, this shit has been picked clean.
techzilla
We were respected, not in terms of salery or w/e, but they at least thought we were wizards. We had skills all of the others did not, and some of them were actually hard to do, so that a typical person would have quit.
techzilla
You and everyone else, you fool, why would anyone pay so much for any of us when nearly every average person can do it?
techzilla
Most lawyers and MD's are salaried workers, many work 40-ish hours a week, many work more but not a ridiculous amount when compared to us. MD's who do emergency surgeries also don't have 24 hour shifts, they have limits that require them to be switched out, why? Nobody wants a surgeon up for 24 hours straight operating on them, but also medical malpractice insurance companies don't like it.
There is no comparison between them and anyone else in the job market, not even lawyers are protected like they are. If you have your own practice it may be a different conversation, but you are choosing to be a MD and a businessman at that point. Residency training often happens at hospitals, and they do spend more hours because of it, but that is not a whole career...and is itself a restriction they demanded, that we pay for, that ultimately serves them.
In addition, countless people in our field are also called 24/7, if something has an emergency. I only mentioned lawyers for salary comparison, they face legitimate market pressure unlike MD's. We also don't typically don't get 4 months maternity leave, that's not unusual for entire US job market.
". I'd want to be a SWE"
Nobody should feel that way in 2026, you don't know how much I wish that wasn't true though.
techzilla
Kay, but nobody ever hired us for soft skills, people did this because they were near-autist level savants. Some asses on the internet did that, with help from the industry who wanted to flood the market with applicants, we didn't. Why not? Most of us never made crazy money to brag about.
techzilla
I lived through then, this is WAY worse, with a lot of existential crises.
That is a condemnation of officials, and a rank betrayal of the citizens.
The pyramid collapses we become the new bottom tier, cope isn't going to turn bad into good.
Demand had a bump in recent past for those, but the market is highly saturated, and there is almost no demand for fresh grads.
This isn't really a medical situation, per se. Many of the things that a disabled child needs are general life expenses as a result of their disability. Some of the expenses are things that are specific one time expenses, but still not exactly medical. Everyone got caught up in the insurance aspect, but it's just part of the rules to make it impossible for you to use the department of DD money you're entitled to.
I really appreciate your comment though.
