I wonder if there's something in the ordering there - British-Indian rather than Irish-American. The former stresses they are British (which they are) whilst the latter stresses they are Irish. Or am I reading too much into it

We've no idea of what George thinks of it. All we have is Fire & Blood, which is George writing as Gyldayn. The entire concept of Fire & Blood is that Gyldayn is a historiographer and writing from a particular viewpoint and is therefore often an unreliable narrator.

And that's what makes you a poor team player. You have neither the natural aptitude for it, nor are you willing to put the effort in to compensate.
And that's fine, especially for a contractor, but you seem confused when called not a team player, whilst simultaneously listing out all your personality quirks that demonstrate why you're not a team player.

Most people are not soulless automatons and work better in teams when they feel emotionally connected to their colleagues. That's why we talk about what the cat did last night, or what happened in the local sports team.
All business is fine, but by dropping all of the social aspect you aren't building relationships that people care about. The people on my team who offer nothing of themselves are also the ones who complain about no one reviewing their PRs; when there is a personal connection people will help you achieve your work goals and defer their own goals.
Software engineering is a social activity, it's not just writing code in isolation.

As someone who has been creating worthless slop code for 30 years [...] Also it should ne pointed out, in real life anyone bringing up YOEs of experience are often the type "stealing a living".
Self burn, those are rare.
How is relying on Claude different from relying on a dev team? In big corps, the team that built a feature/product are often not the team supporting and maintaining it.

I feel that the UK is slightly more immune than the US to a Trump style takeover. In the US they have no impartial civil service, judges are partisan, and politicians are tightly whipped. The checks and balances on the Executive are the courts, whose only enforcement mechanism is the Executive's DoJ.
In the UK, the Civil Service runs the executive, taking orders from the government. Many politicians have complained that the civil service is uncontrollable, and the orders go the other way around. Regardless, the civil service is a remarkable moderating factor. Judges are scrupulously independent. Judges select other judges, rather than it being a political appointment. The MoJ and it's officers are constrained by laws and courts in a way that federal agents just aren't.
I started off by saying feel, because it's never been tested like it has in the US

I think that there will always be a need for people to take accountability and responsibility for actions until we get AGI, and I don't think that LLMs lead to AGI.
I am frequently wrong.

There should be installers making bank, that's the whole point of the subsidy. We don't have enough installers to install the number of heat pumps we need to have installed.

That looks phenomenal, I'd eat that for lunch and dinner. Share the recipe please!

Yes, at Stripe you can promoted 3 times before reaching even Senior, as CTO your pay won't scale until the company does.

Legally, you can call yourself whatever you want in the UK. Count Binface is not actually a peer of the realm, but that's his legal name (we don't actually have Counts, closest is Earl)

Unless your current mortgage is uncompetitive, it's usually fine to port over the old mortgage to the new property, keeping your existing lending at the old rate and new lending at the new rate. Makes the timing of when to move somewhat moot.

Sorry to say that even the biggest blue waves this November and in two years time doesn't fix this internationally. The world knows that:
- you're always one election away from putting someone like Trump back in control
- many Americans like his behaviour and treatment of treaties and allies
- America only seems to care when it costs them money
You can't build long term relationships with countries that could be run by Trump and his ilk. Europe will divest from US institutions and deals. They'll want their defence tech built in Europe, their payment systems in Europe, and so on. It's probably the end of Pax Americana

1808, we invaded Portugal to aid the Portuguese government in exile to expel the French from Portugal. Over the hills and over the main, through Flanders, Portugal and Spain, King George commands and we obey, over the hills and far away

Imagine the NFL had a salary cap that varied depending on a team's revenue. An owner cannot simply stuff their money in to increase their revenue and get a higher salary cap, because if they stopped stuffing extra money in the team would go bust. This is not a theoretical threat; do poorly in the NFL and you get the best new player next year, do poorly in the PL and you get relegated to a lower league, lose £200m+ of income and have to sell a lot of your best players.
Well, City have been found guilty of artificially increasing their revenue through bogus sponsorship from related companies owned by the owners of City. Emirates paid them £10m sponsorship from their own funds and £80m from a top up they received from Emirates owners. They did that for multiple seasons and received ~£900m in bogus sponsorship. During this time they went from a B tier team to an S tier team and won multiple titles.
The league and the independent tribunal say this was against rules, and City say it's all fine..

Doesn't the US produce a surplus of diesel that gets exported? Why does a diesel exporter need to buy diesel to suppress domestic prices? If local prices are depressed, wouldn't some enterprising entrepreneurs re export more to exploit the price differential?
That's a lot of text to say the infrastructure is very old and expensive to repair.
You can literally apply this to any of the UK's creaking infrastructure. Was it built by the Victorians originally, and we're still using it? Probably both shit performing and expensive to upgrade.
