I got limited at like 10,000 tokens the other day (system prompt and one brief tool call); they seem to be either A/B testing or having some bugs with the free tier, and I think this is the main thing people are complaining about. (And I'm not on a VPN or abusing it or anything - I rarely use more than a single 300k token context window a day.)
Still, can't really complain imo - it is free after all.

They offered a voluntary buyout to 60k employees today (numerically that is half the number of US employees they have but: a) the buyout is global - only about half of employees are in the US, so a quarter received the offer overall, and b) they don't expect everyone to take the offer, so it's not really a 25% layoff (yet)). https://www.reuters.com/technology/microsoft-is-offering-buyouts-around-60000-employees-business-insider-reports-2026-10-26/

Better than you'd get from the Department of Labor though.

The vast majority of rank and file tech workers are well aware that they're fucked, there's just nothing they can do about it.

You joke, but outside of watermarked stuff like SynthID images you would actually have to use AI for this (train a model (not necessarily an LLM) to distinguish AI-generated content). As is well-established at this point though, it would be difficult to make it very accurate.

That was always guaranteed.

Sold mine a long time ago (and would do so again, though obviously I would have waited a bit longer if I had been able to see the future). I try to treat buying and selling as equal and opposite actions, and there's no way I would ever buy a GPU for even $4k. (I even do some rendering and GOFAI training, and can't justify the cost - that's a lot of server hours.)

Nope

You definitely shouldn't shower with it - it's rated to 3 atmospheres water resistance, which is only enough for rain and hand-washing (i.e., the occasional incidental splash)

Dang ten years since Steep came out is crazy.

My theory is that the people willing to spend lots of money on phones are the ones who use it for everything (seldom switching to a full computer), and logically they want a very large screen. Those of us who mostly use a laptop/desktop and only have a phone for phone stuff (communication, maps, music, the occasional app or search while away from home) would prefer a smaller screen and more portable device but we're also willing to spend much less, so the manufacturers dgaf what we want because it's less profitable.
It's the same with small cars - some people want them but there's so much more money in SUVs and trucks that manufacturers don't want to even bother.

If I were dictator, having a driver's license would be unusual and imply a great degree of responsibility, like having a pilot's license. Something requiring years of training and only obtained by professionals, committed hobbyists, and some people in ultra-remote areas (like how aircraft are used in rural Alaska).

AliExpress is the cheapest place to get little mechanical and electronic bits and bobs (well, that ships globally - Taobao or whatever would be even less). It's cheap stuff but it is usually actually good value.

Pretty sure they're just off the shelf WS2811/2812 string lights, which have a nominal diameter of exactly 12mm. Whether they will actually fit in a 12mm hole idk.

I think only 200 have shipped so far, all of them silver. Probably also mostly people who switched from PT2 or needed a warranty replacement for a P2D.

You can download the .pbw from Rebble here: https://apps.rebble.io/en_US/application/5330ef35ff3a27c65500004a?query=strava§ion=watchapps&dev_settings=1 (bottom of the page) and try to sideload it. I would be pretty shocked if it still worked though - they'd have to have kept the Pebble stuff in the Strava phone app for ten years.

I wonder how these 1-year post-low returns compare to the average (non-midterm) year.

I wouldn't be surprised if microcontrollers moved pretty quickly - there's simply less software to port, and e.g. Nordic already ships some RISC-V coprocessors (NRF54) in large volumes. Depends on how much Arm is asking of course.

I think all of them together is the problem. I like oats (though not overnight - I like them half-raw), and love greek yogurt, and I can even find some pleasure in protein powder. But I would not put them all together in one bowl.

I agree - there must be either a data artifact or some kind of tax/retirement/etc. policy driver.

There's an incentive, if you plan to break the law, to look like everyone else - if you were the one guy wearing a red hat it would be much easier to follow you across cameras and track you down after the fact. I wouldn't assume there's any overt coordination, although it's possible. Definitely kind of creepy in any case.

It adds a tiny bit of latency, and it also cuts into available PCIe bandwidth which can theoretically affect performance (very slightly).

I remember Frere Jaques from my random English-speaking American preschool. Pretty sure it was the only French thing so I have no idea why.
I pulled a CSV of the data if you need /u/DougUnderwater (in case you don't have the permissions to download data). (I could link it publicly too, but I wasn't sure whether that would be uncouth.)
