Yeah I was actually talking about this a couple of days ago. I hired a new safety coordinator for a small company in Michigan but in the process most of the applicants came from the a data center world making very high wages with minimal training/experience and expected that salary.
I am not crapping on anyone making money at all. If you are willing to live that life, work those hours and travel then you should be paid well. I hope they realize this is a boom market but I am seeing many people think this is the new standard for entry level safety professionals. As others have said the top talent will stay in the industry and be critical assets for ongoing large projects but the entry level professionals who are used to making $140K with only an OSHA 30 will have a hard wake up call.

Got it! Thanks! Pretty cool so far.

Yes I'd start with determining work relatedness. A month is a long time to accept it on face value instantly. If it is strain/sprain or something that may give visible indications do you have camera footage of them entering, exiting or working that can support or refute his claim? Also check social media, we had an employee recently get hurt at a softball game on the weekend and tried to allege it happened at work. We got lucky that he told a coworker before alleging the injury but it was denied by WC and we did not record it.
Ultimately you may have to record it but I'd absolutely investigate thoroughly before I put it on the log.

Lots of great advice here but also make sure you always check you EMR numbers on your NCCI worksheet. Lots of great advice here but also make sure you always check your EMR numbers on your NCCI worksheet, especially from OCIP and CCIP sites. They do report payroll and claims to NCCI (except in some states like OH and MI among others). I learned the value of this the hard way this year. One of our very large OCIP projects did not report all our info so our EMR was way higher than I expected. I found out we were missing $80M on payroll from that OCIP. It reduced our EMR SIGNIFICANTLY! If you are missing hours there is a mechanism to self report your hours to NCCI. I believe the form is an EMR - 6 and your normal carrier has to sign off on it as well but it will get your EMR corrected if it's wrong. Definitely worth checking out if your EMR is high.

I used Evernote in the past but now I use Obsidian. It is my notes, project and task management tool. I support multiple operating companies so have separate notes for each OpCo, major projects/initiatives, for major research areas and they integrate with my task management system. It sounds complicated but it's working for me so far and helps me keep organized and in task. I also have notes for my mental inventory and other items. It's sometimes called a second brain or Personal Knowledge Management (PKM) system. I have notes from the past 10 years I can search through easily so it has a lot of benefits for me.

Yes you do but one piece of advice: Depending on your employer health coverage if you connect your HSA or other payment method make sure they do not automatically pay your bill. My company uses a broker (Health EZ) and I have my HSA connected to it for my wife's bills, makes it way easier. The broker service actually pays the bills but if I do not catch the claim they would automatically pay the VA thinking it's a legitimate bill I owe (to them it is). I have emails set up so not a big deal but look at your coverage and make sure you do not have anything like that set up. Probably not applicable for a lot of people but it almost paid some bills for which the VA was not going actually bill me.

Overall I think we are better off financially but we have also traveled and experienced more than our parents. Both my parents and my wife's are from the silent generation. They worked hard and saved but didn't do crap for vacation or hobbies. My wife and I have prioritized travel and experiences within our budget. I kinda feel bad for Mom, never been on a plane or much of a vacation and does not want to go now. We take her on day trips in the area and to see friends/family but she is not interested in longer trips now.
It's all about perspective to me. I saw them never do anything, I tried to talk them into trips and such, we actually took my wife parents on a trip once but it was like they felt bad not working or taking time for themselves. I think we have done a great job of balancing savings and experiences.

For me it replaced Notesnook (which replaced Evernote) and my crappy conglomeration of task apps (Google tasks, todoist, and Notesnook). So far I'm very happy with how it's replaced these apps.

That's an awesome blast from the past! I bought my first real guitar, amp, effects and so much from Rob Payne's. He was a great guy too. Great memories!

I still love a good dive bar but I start earlier and drink less. I go most often before concerts or to jau thang out with friends. My wife has decided we're bar people now though so we go to the bar at restaurant a lot now. Not a bar per day but... close enough and still cool to talk to others at the bar and hang out. I really like the idea of going out to bars more often, earlier so my sleep isn't as screwed up BUT a bar none the less.

That's cool, thanks for sharing. I'll be going to Detroit next week so I'll see how it goes. Too bad my home airport doesn't have it, but Louisville never has very long lines so not a big deal.

It seems if they are under your direction and control you would add their hours and injuries to your OSHA log. I support a few construction sub contractors and any 3rd party 1099 or other parties who we directly supervise are on our OSHA log just like a W2 employee. Now if they are an independent sub who we do not directly control and direct then they are not on our logs (neither injuries or hours). It really comes down to whether you give them day to day direction and control. I would not share the 301s though, that have no need to see that level of information.

This is it for me as well. Prior to my asthma being a presumptive under the PACT act I was paying well over $100 a month, sometimes $200 - $300 a month. Now it's all covered. Such an amazing relief for me.

Not at all, I've never been a religious person but over the past 10 or so years I've gone farther away from organized religion. I just have no believe in it and feel most of the real religious people I know are fake and use it to judge/punish others. Current political climate has helped strengthen that believe as well. We occasionally have to go to church when we visit my wife's family and we always feel singled out as "the big city sinners", keep in mind we live in Louisville, KY which is not a "big city" but compared to their part of the state it apparently is. It also seems to us the paster always focuses on us a bit, that's fun....

Also I just wanted to add that you can get the military rate for clear+ of $125. It is a bit of a process but it worked for me. I got the run around at the airport staff (ambassadors) who told me to contact the support line, when I contacted support they told me to have an ambassador do it at the airport. The one thing I did learn from the ambassador at the airport though is that the discount code is "Military CH". I dropped that term in the chat with the agent (a human agent of course) and got the military/veteran discount. Took a little time but saved me $84. I don't think I'd keep paying for Clear+ at the full price but for $125 I may keep it, I travel enough and it does save some time at the airport.

Yup wife and I both will be cremated. Interesting thing though all our parents are the silent generation and her parents thought cremation was crazy but both my parents are for cremation. Dad passed last year so mom and I split his ashes. We're going to go to a where he grew up in East TN on the one year anniversary of his passing to spread his ashes in a few spots.

Overall much better. I workout more than I did in the 1st half of my life and try to eat the best I can. While the body does go down hill over the years I've held off most of the bad stuff and have a great career, looking at semi-retirment in 4 or 5 years so having a goal like that helps a lot as well. I think I'm doing much better than I really expected 30 years ago....

As others have mentioned you could always foster and go with your heard. My wife works for the KY Humane Society here in Louisville and they ALWAYS need fosters for cats and dogs. It's a wonderful help for the animals and the humane society/rescue/shelter. Reach out to your local group and ask about fostering. You could also adopt an older dog if that's your concern. Puppies go quick but a slightly older big may be in the shelter or foster for months before they find a home.
You have lots of options so heal up after your loss and see what feels right. My wife and I have to senior kitties ao we are talking about what next as well. We'll probably not have any fur babies for a while and foster after they pass so we can travel a little more and not feel as guilty but I have no doubt we'll have more fur babies of our own in the not to distant future after they pass.

Nope, didn't go either, class of 91. No regrets now, most of my friends didn't go and I didn't have a girlfriend so it didn't seem like anything that interested me. I went to my 8th grade prom but none of my highschool proms. Lots of other dances but not proms.

I just went through security this morning (3/24/26) arrived at 6:30am for 7:45am flight. Lines were pretty much normal, if not shorter. I have precheck and had no wait at all, check in was instant and straight to a lane with no line. For me this morning it was completely normal.
I had the same issue, I loved Tasknotes but the file for each task, no reminders on my phone and no calendar was too much for me to get past. I now use Todoist to manage ally todos with Todoist Synch to get them into Obsidian. I then use a Kanban note to categorize my tasks into my important groupings. I love this system and it works great for me. Clean, simple and customizable.
