Are you not that big on starward in general?

I'll say Ive never had a starward I didn't like, it's hard to give a rating but probably, to me, nothing below a 7/10

I'm a bit of a fan, it's gradually overtaking my whisky collection as all their releases are "affordable" compared to most 🤣. I like the banana lolly, sweetness, and yes I even like the tannic aspect that makes my cheeks and jaw hurt/clench even thinking about it hahahaha

I haven't yet opened some of the ones I've seen people say the worst about (like dolce) though, but even then they say it's just "extremely sweet" so I assume I'll be fine.

100%. As much as it's a fairly "mainstream ultra hyped fanbase" brand in terms of whisky nerdery, it's, for TWC, interesting and must have been years in the making. Very big Collab for sure.

I haven't even visited any Aussie distilleries let alone Scotland yet 😅

Yes it does SOMETHING but not a huge amount. Like say it's a 200L cask, whatever residual flavour is left behind is diluted by 200L of fresh new make

But yeah, the 2nd fill, 3rd fill and beyond gets more and more neutral in influence, allowing absurd age statements to not taste terribly over casked lol

But also some distilleries do stuff like STR (shave toast rechar) which will use an older cask with fresh wood exposed.

The Islay barley in particular (goes for the PC Islay Barley and the X.3 octomore) have an awesome buttery/clotted cream thing going on, so while delicious, is also very different to the non Islay barley varieties.
