Its videos like these that keep rekindling my dream of learning to fly a helicopter. I've always loved them since childhood.

However being deaf w/bionic ears allows me to keep dreaming and enjoy watching them fly about in the skies.

Kuwaiti here:

First off, it's not 200k, that's nearly a quarter of the total population, excluding non-citizens. Its just under 50k currently.

Second, although it's a highly unpopular decision (many Kuwaitis such as myself are critical of this law) it originally was due to the fraudulently obtained citizenships that triggered it. 

So if grandpa obtained the citizenship through fraudulent means, then it cascades down the family line. Kuwait is a patriarchal society. Fathers pass citship (and religion) down to the kids.

A typical Kuwaiti family can consist of the parents, their kids and grandkids which inflate the numbers of citships revoked. Hence the large numbers.

Another example, if a foreigner married to a Kuwaiti man, she isn't allowed to take the family name (which is quite common in the US & elsewhere). So Karen Smith can't be Karen Alwhatever or Karen Smith-Alwhatever.

Back when corruption was rampant, many women took their husband's surnames. Revoked as well, EXCEPT for the kids who still legally retain their father's citizenship.

This revocation (is that the right word?) law affects all those who have obtain citizenships since the 1980s, so you can imagine the sheer number of people affected.

An ex-colleague is on the committee reviewing the files & he's had to go on medical leave after just a month...he really burned out.

I personally know several fantastic people who lost their citizenships and it makes me quite unhappy. Some of them are of my own extended family.

The sins of the fathers shouldn't go down to the sons...but here we are, nobody can do shit about it.

The blame solely lies on the feet of the corrupted officials who allowed all of this to happen in the first place. And fuck those few who made life harder for the innocents caught in the backlash.
