The movie had serious Elden Ring vibes. It's what convinced me that an Elden Ring movie would be possible, something with the same kind of surreal storytelling would work really well.

Same, the new UI is horrendous. Whoever designed it needs a refresher in basic design principles.

My company went fully remote during the pandemic and scaled back to hybrid (several days a week in office) afterwards. I can tell you that we are more productive now than we were during pre-pandemic days. Measurably so, we handle more projects.

I'd also say... the flexibility works both ways. When I'm in the office and the clock strikes 5, I'm out the door. Doesn't matter if I was on the verge of finishing something, I did my 8 hours and I'm gone. I'm not staying a minute longer unless it's an emergency.

When I'm working from home I'm basically more or less available til dinner. If I'm near done with something, I'll spend an extra half hour to finish it up, cause where else am I gonna go? I'm already home. On average I work more hours when I'm working remote.

I think there is value in being in the office some of the time, a hybrid model is the best of both worlds. You get the flexibility, you also get the benefits of seeing your coworkers in office and the collaboration gains that result from that. Full return-to-office benefits no one besides the delusional execs quiet firing their employees for more money to spend on AI.

Really sad about this, I really liked this show. It's actually strangely enough the show that got me to watch Dark. I'd heard how good Dark was but I was skeptical, after watching 1899 I was sold. I really dig their style.

I wish there was a way for them to bring this back, I really want to know where they were going to take it. But we'll never find out.

I actually really liked Belmont's Curse (with some of the common criticisms about music, enemy variety, etc.) but I definitely felt this.

Lost Crown was the last MV I finished and a lot of the stuff in this game felt comparable but lesser. Stuff like the ability to toggle the "alternate" world in Lost Crown is very similar to the "shield" ability in Belmont (eerily similar...) but just not done as well. Having to hold the button is so much more annoying than having it be a toggle in Lost Crown.

I felt like the platforming in Lost Crown was harder but not as annoying as in this game if that makes sense. Well, beyond the area near the end in the DLC with the eye following you. I did not like that.

The whip equivalent in Lost Crown also just feels a lot more responsive. Visibility of attacks, etc. too. And the parry timings in Lost Crown felt a lot more... intuitive? There were some fights in Belmont's Curse where it was just impossible to tell what the real "point of contact" was. I bashed my head into Joan V2 for an hour and never figured out the timing for her slow slash where she hits behind her.

Comparison is the theft of joy though. I liked Belmont's Curse despite its faults. I think they built a solid base, I could see a sequel or DLC being way better because the flaws with this game are not beyond fixing.

I don't think so. I'm speaking as someone who really liked Ragnarok and hated Love and Thunder. To the point I think it's the worst superhero flick of the past decade (well ok, not counting Morbius, I'll be realistic here).

As the guy above you said, it was just too much. Ragnarok had silly jokes but it still had a serious core throughout. It was also a bit more of a straightforward story.

L+T took everything from Ragnarok and took it to 11, and crossed a threshold where it was just too much. Too many jokes, too many plot points jumbled together. The hammer jokes were so cringeworthy I audibly moaned by the end of the film.

I'm reading some receptions of Klara and the Sun and it looks like he has had the same problem since. He doesn't know how to let a scene breathe anymore, every serious moment has to be punctuated by a silly joke. And not good ones!!

throw23me

Ahhh it's been a while since I thought of that book. I loved the first one, and then I really struggled with the second one. I didn't dislike it but it felt like a slog compared to the first.

And I don't think I ever read the third one, or it was so unmemorable that I have absolutely no memory of it.

throw23me

This looks like a really good setup, thank you! I was looking at something similar last year and it was $200-$300 cheaper, I really should have gotten on it earlier.

Is Silicon Power considered a good brand for storage? I have not heard much about them but I haven't kept up with parts in a while.

throw23me

I feel like I'm nearly through the entire thing, just finishing up some optional content before the final boss, and I feel it's mostly fair most of the time.

I had a few annoyances so far:

Talos was easy but I hated the silly platforming segments and the timed part near the end. Took me over half an hour to beat him and it wasn't because the boss itself was hard...

I fought the Room of the Four Virtues Joan early I think and it was a struggle. I bashed my head into it for like two hours. I felt that fight was a little overtuned but you can come back later and beat it after grinding/getting better weapons. Don't do what I did.

Everything else has been alright so far. Some of the platforming segments have been annoying but nothing egregiously difficult. Overall the platforming in this game is not as difficult as HK/Silksong or Prince of Persia Lost Crown if you've played that.

I accidentally stumbled onto a conservative subreddit thread about the game when looking for tips for a boss, and I shit you not, one of the comments was complaining that the male characters in the game are hotter than the female ones.

I think some of these dudes need to do some self-reflection and figure out what they're really into...

I respect your opinion because you played the game. I do not respect his opinion because he did not. It's as simple as that. Even if you say the same thing, there is weight in having actually experienced what you are reviewing.

You don't have to play a game anymore to get a really good idea of what to expect.

There's a difference between giving one's impressions of something and calling it a review, which is what OP is doing. You cannot review a game you have not played.

The primary thing that distinguishes games from any other form of media or art is the interactivity of them. If you are not playing the game, you are not experiencing it, and you cannot comment on things such as... well, gameplay.

It's within his prerogative to say that he does not like the art style, or the music because these are externally visible things. He cannot make a statement on the quality of the gameplay because he has not experienced it. Gameplay is the majority of what makes a game, a game.

He is of course free to say that the gameplay does not look like something he would enjoy, and that's a fair opinion. Even saying this does not align with what a Castlevania's gameplay should be is fine. But again, this is different than calling it a review. And from titling a thread ''this game sucks so hard." A game he has, once again, not played. This is silliness bordering on parody.

throw23me

It really is so silly. You cannot review a game you haven't played. And he's crashing out in the comments against anyone who disagrees with him.

It's like a restaurant critic watching someone eat something and writing a review out of it. Absurd.

It kind of strikes me that all these versions of Jason that moved on (the ones in episode 5, and this one) found happiness that "our" Jason is still unable to find. I like this theme of sometimes having to let go to find where you really need to be, as someone who struggles with that concept a lot. It's... therapeutic for me.

I do hope that Jason 1 finds some sort of happiness as well but it's been fun following these other Jasons. Makes me wish we were back in the good old days of 20+ episode seasons so we could have a good mix of these one-off episodes and more plot-forward ones too.

To be fair, Outlook is horrible unintuitive software. Hey, we can do "ctrl+F" to search in virtually every single other application out there, let's make it the shortcut for "reply" instead! Good job Microsoft.

Are you playing this on the Steam Deck? What types of framerates are you seeing? I get 60fps in some of the smaller rooms (like the mirror save rooms) but consistent drops in bigger areas. I've seen a lot of feedback that it has frame drops and I've seen the same in my time with the demo. I was hoping it'd be fixed in the full release.

throw23me

I'm mostly just sad that the technical performance is not good. I was planning on playing this on my Steam Deck and it has some issues there. It can't hold a solid 60fps. Or even a solid 50fps. I get the Steam Deck is several year old hardware at this point but Metroidvanias aren't known for being super resource intensive.

There's also some random glitches related to the resolution. The menu is zoomed in and cut-off. There's a workaround for it but it forces the game into non-native 720p resolution and makes everything slightly blurry.

I think all of this is fixable so maybe I will give it a month or two if I don't get impatient. I found the gameplay pretty enjoyable but the technical issues were kind of a hindrance.

throw23me

Ah bummer, I figured the zoom thing would be fixed in a day-1 patch. I am a little disappointed in the performance, usually Metroidvanias are pretty good in that regard. 50fps is playable for me but if it goes down further I think I'd have an issue with it.

throw23me

I played the demo and actually enjoyed it fair bit (still a little on the fence about getting it because of performance issues on the Steam Deck) but I can agree that the game doesn't feel super responsive. The first boss by all accounts should be easy but I felt like I kept mistiming the dodge/slide. It felt like there was a weird delay to it which made it counterintuitive, I felt like I had to dodge early or else I'd get hit.

The whip felt okay but also just a tiny bit unresponsive. I think it makes it worse that the last Metroidvania I played was Prince of Persia Lost Crown, and it has a similar "whip" mechanic near the end and that one feels so much snappier in comparison.

throw23me

I just finished watching Wonder Man, I was a little bit on the fence on starting it since I heard it was a little divisive. I ended up really liking it. Might even be in my top 3 Marvel shows.

I'm not too familiar with Wonder Man so the amount it was true to the comics or the lack of big flashy fights didn't really bother me. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Ben Kingsley were both amazing. And it's an unpopular opinion but I was a big fan of Ironman 3 so I loved the return of Kingsley as the "fake" Mandarin. I'd watch him in that role for hours.

I'm sad it got cancelled, would have really liked to see more of Simon and Trevor's story. Maybe he'll show up in one of the movies but I would be surprised if he wasn't relegated to anything but a very small role. It's a shame.

throw23me

I feel like it's teetering right on the edge of being just for shock value at the moment. Some of it felt a little unnecessary to me. I'm going to get the next few issues to give it a fair chance but I would not be surprised if it just turns into Spidey-themed torture porn if they indulge it a bit too much.

I will give them props for swinging for the fences with this though, this is very much not mainstream (well, at least as far as big-two superhero comics go). It's not my cup of tea but I could see it finding a devoted audience.

throw23me

I don't know if this is an unpopular opinion but this just felt overly edgy to me. The horror was not so much scary as it was mean-spirited. How many times do you have to show the rotting cat?

I'm still going to give it a fair shot, at least through to the end of the year. I think what is going to make it or break it for me is how Peter's character changes as he gets his "powers."

This version of Peter is just so incredibly unlikeable so far. But I guess even in the main Marvel universe, he was kind of immature and irresponsible before Uncle Ben died so it's kind of a commonality.

I think the funny thing with the comparisons people made pre-release to the Absolute universe, it actually reminds me a lot more of the alt-universe Batman origin stories from Dark Knights. Stuff like Dawnbreaker, etc. But those were one shots so it'll be interesting to see how an extended run of a similar concept will go.

throw23me

Late on this but I agree with you, it just felt the most edgy out of the three Midnight releases. A lot of the "horror" just felt like it was more for shock value or mean-spirited than "scary."

I'm still going to give it a fair shake, there's two more issues coming out this year and I'll be picking them up. If it's all just more along the lines of this I probably won't continue past that though. Not really my cup of tea so far.

Here it is: if your criticism or feedback for a game could apply, word for word, to literally any game in the genre it's not good feedback and (this is going to blow your mind) likely just bad faith trendy negativity.

Here it is: you don't get to police what is bad feedback and what is good feedback.

I think it is valid feedback (albeit not the most useful; I acknowledged that in an ideal world it would be more constructive) and I have gone out of my way to explain why. It is not "hypothetical criticism," it is a factual example from another game that is relevant to what we are discussing here.

It's doubly relevant because the "flaw" I brought up was not even a real so-called issue, it was an intentional design choice that many people like (and some people don't, that's the point).

And let's go through this comment:

it felt a little clunky and everytime I "whipped" it kinda felt I will miss but I wasn't.

This is valid feedback that goes beyond saying "something feels off fr." He's bringing up a specific bit of gameplay that feels abnormal to him. That is valid feedback.

You are free to disagree and I have no desire to spend more time convincing you. I do however, have a problem with you calling every argument you disagree with "dumb" and "garbage." That goes beyond disagreement and makes you look immature. It's not a respectful way of engaging in discussion with others. But I guess it is not my job to teach you manners.

throw23me

You still haven't explained why anyone's point is "garbage" beyond saying "NUH-UH TRENDY NEGATIVITY." People have taken the time to respond to you respectively and you respond by calling their points "dumb" and "garbage" among other things.

Ironically your comments come off as "I dunno fam, something feels off fr" as you seem completely incapable of articulating an intelligent counter-argument to a single thing anyone else has said. Do as I say, not as I do my man? Or is this just the trendy negativity fad I'm hearing so much about. 😉

throw23me

I don't think you're interested in engaging in a discussion in good faith if that's all you got out of my comment. I hope you have a nice day, we don't really have anything else to discuss here. If you end up picking up the game I sincerely hope you like it. Have a good one!

Edit: Lol I guess this was too snarky for some of you. For the record the last bit was sincere (he did annoy me a bit further down though).
