Get more involved in local politics and engage in more mutual aid. You are not going to ride this out alone. You are not going to be the sole savior in a domain where capital is highly organized against your interest (ability to live) explicitly.

You can survive by working with others. You can survive by pressuring your politicians to do more to fight for you.

There is immense power when you come together with others and work on common goals. The power is so immense that they use to murder people for trying to unionize. Don't let them take away this power.

Mutual aid is how you find people in your community that truly care about others. Mutual aid is how you help your neighbors and they help you in turn.

Any solution that tells you to turn in, shut down, and knock think about others is a direct path to your downfall.

Community is how you are going to survive this.

Oh no, I'm referring to the CEO himself. The CEO is the one that is buddies with the racist and his racist flavor distro.

I'm really curious what they paid which the article doesn't mention at all.

It was sold to Digital Ocean for $4 million in 2022. The site was basically inactive for a long period of time. Digital Ocean CEO likes to hang with racists and pays the racist affiliated linux distro $1 million. Community outcry about the site led to it to be sold to an adjunct Professor that writes articles for Smashing Magazine as a contractor.

I'm guessing it was bought for something less than $100k.

I never understand why this was a thing, truly think we need to break up all these tech companies because they've been subsidizing their unsustainable development practices with their monopolies or billions of literal cash.

Over the last 4 years I've become increasingly skeptical of big tech practices as they don't seem to make our jobs easier but harder while taking up more duties in the name of "efficiency."

It's also hard to square the two because we see the outputs of these practices and they just ain't that good. Felt like the last "innovative" time was early Twitter era when software devs learned that hedge fund firms solved a lot of interesting problems 30 years ago that they can start implementing themselves. Which was less about innovation but more about cross discipline collaboration.

Cross discipline specializations do seem to push their industries forward in very unexpected ways. Like with David Graeber with anthropology + politics + sociology. Maybe we should start taking insights from industrial psychology or sociology ourselves because software has always been a people problem and we have been neglecting the 6,000 year record of what collaboration is best for human ingenuity.

This is what America has always been. The elites need to immiserate a class of workers in order for the rich to continue their opulent excesses, now it's big tech's turn to push us off a cliff. They all openly state they want us to work unrealistic hours, they all openly state they want us to become unemployed.

Please start engaging in active sabotage and open resistance. Do what you are comfortable with, any wrench thrown into the machine means you keep your job slightly longer.

Unemployment in America is a death sentence. Don't let them sentence you to death without resisting.

Learn what the actual pressure points are in your company because your ability to function in our world is going to increasingly rely on not only knowing them but sharing them with others.

These people have openly shared their anti-human death cult views about us and humanity as a whole with glee. It's our duty to resist and engage in mutual aid with one another.

It's not illegal to discuss politics at work, also this is why people often describe workplaces as the last vestiges of accepted authoritarianism.

thy_bucket_for_thee

Status quo is pretty abhorrent. Democratic trifecta and we still collaborate with ICE while passing the least amount of legislation in the country.

thy_bucket_for_thee

I don't think that's the same at all. Do you not listen to leadership or the cult members/rationalists/devs at these companies? They envision everyone else losing their jobs but they keep theirs, they are the "elite" engineers after all guiding us upon the golden path for humanity. 😃🔫

thy_bucket_for_thee

Don't think most companies care in practice, capitalists have access to a global labor force. Why would they want need to care about talent pipelines or spend any money training people? They just import the labor they need already trained, the US government encourages it too.

This is just IBM trying to eek out a positive marketing stunt while having a known reputation for being ageist.

There were only like 3 races out of 500 elections in the state that had more than 4 candidates running. The vast majority of races are completely uncontested.

thy_bucket_for_thee

These scare tactics aren't going to work. Beacon Hill has done nothing, like literally nothing least amount of legislation passed in the nation, with a democratic trifecta.

They're going to have to deal with jungle primaries and I'm all here for it.

The people can only give you so much power, a democratic supermajority, while Beacon Hill does fuck all.

Next time legislate something instead of doing nothing then crying about how jungle primaries are unfair.

thy_bucket_for_thee

Ranked choice voting has been on the Mass Dems platforms since 2017. We have had a democratic supermajority on Beacon Hill for over a decade. We have had a democratic trifecta for a solid 4 years.

The people in power do not want RCV, as much as they say otherwise. If Mass Dems cared about RCV they can implement it anytime they want but since we have the least productive legislature in the country they're going to have to deal with jungle primaries as a result.

This is the environment you create while Mass Dems bleeds members, ignore current members, and treat the state as a fundraising engine instead of helping find talent that want to better our lives.

thy_bucket_for_thee

Are you calling your politicians to say something? Are you threatening their jobs by backing their opponents if they don't do what you want?

You have to realize that your vote is worth exactly the same as an oligarch's, as much as they don't want it to be so. Now realize that way more people likely agree with you (corporate power being an issue, oligarchs being an issue, big tech being an issue, the need for worker relief being an issue).

This last year should have taught us that ordinary people are extremely powerful when we come together and act for a common interest that benefits all of us and not just the few.

My community actively does this and as a result we have banned flock cameras and ALPRs (fun fact, the ACLU worked with us and told us to capitulate immediately; but we didn't and now have a total ban). Then you look across the nation and see you similar stories of communities standing up + fighting the most powerful companies on the planet while winning.

There is immense power when you come together and people are coming together, so why aren't you doing something when so many of your neighbors already are?

Sure neoliberal has a specific economic beliefs that invaded all facets of life: mainly more private-public partnerships in government with little democratic controls, favoring deregulation, favoring free markets, and favoring corporate welfare.

That's all there is too it, and it can be summarized as helping corporations over humans. It's also been the dominant economic theory in the US for the last 50ish years.

Democratic organizations like "third way" are great examples of neoliberal institutions. Not going to go down the shit list but they are there and they are real and they have major influence on the democratic party (you know the whole favoring corporations over people).

Saying neoliberal is a slur is straight up funny my bro. Like you know what the term means and you want to deny that our governor who still collaborates with ICE, still allows utility companies to fleece us, and prefers to help real estate developers profit from the lack of housing as what exactly? She's not a new deal democrat, she is a corporate democratic and all corporate democrats are neoliberals.

Now for Wu, she favors protecting cars over humans. She favors protecting parking garages over humans. She prefers to help businesses over humans.

I'm sorry if it offends you but how can you look at our state, at Beacon Hill, and see their complete failure in adequately dealing with the cost of living crisis, rising energy rates, hospital foreclosures, loss of well paying jobs, the failure of our public education, inadequate housing, or how people are simply leaving the state (not because they want to, but because they can't afford to live here).

This state use to represent working Americans and now our city on a hill is nothing more than the playground for the wealthy.

I'm not saying Wu + Healey are completely aligned with Reagan, but they so happen to have the similar economic beliefs. They both happen to offer nothing to improve the material lives of workers while somehow always having money for more corporate welfare or giving tax credits to rich developers.

Sorry that you don't know your history of your own party in this state, and to think that neoliberals don't actually control Mass Dems (>80% of donations are from wealthy elites, a good quarter of which are funded from out of state groups like tech millionaires in CA or hedge fund mangers in NYC) is funny.

To act like Massachusetts is still a champion for the working person is straight up delusional. Especially when you see how every day people are literally being killed to preserve the status quo that is failing everyone.

These types of failures is why #3 is going to pass. People are upset that nothing is changing, and that nothing has changed for quite some time.

We have a democratic trifecta that is doing literally nothing and this is good to you why? Because they're on your team?

If every republican got raptured we would still have the same arguments about medicare for all, universal childcare, and not supporting a genocide (oh hey did you know that the Mass Dems platform explicitly mentions not supporting Israel companies in state pensions?).

Sorry but the state leadership is truly pathetic in MA. I'm glad you can excuse it, but many are not which is why #3 is polling well and will likely pass.

This reminds me that I need to remove bootstrap from our projects. We only use bootstrap for a few classes and changes like this aren't a good sign IMO.

Focusing on busy work like name changes that just break for no good reason for everyone is a sign that they don't know what to do going forward. Like out of all the current issues, naming conventions was the real priority here? No, it never is. This is equivalent to what management does when a new executive gets hired and decides to shuffle everyone around so they can leave their grimy marks around while pounding their chest.

Luckily CSS and HTML have both evolved to where the need for bootstrap is minimal nowadays. Even more so with the advent of LLMs as you can roll a dozen utilities yourself without the need to worry about maintenance or compatibility.

thy_bucket_for_thee

Oh okay so absolutely nothing then. Nice. 😎

thy_bucket_for_thee

Great simple game where the more you play it the longer it takes as you learn which cards people have and what they played or didn't play. Add in the expansion cards and it ups the ante to another level.

I think the only other game that invokes similar feels for me is Watergate, but that's 2P.

thy_bucket_for_thee

Bro wtf Healey and Wu are both neoliberals... at least be honest if you're going to sling mud here.

What do you all all the people on Beacon Hill that refuse to stop collaborating with ICE?

thy_bucket_for_thee

I'm sorry but these types of arguments fall on deaf ears as more Americans are put out of work. Would rather we hire Americans for American companies and force corporations to develop their own talent pipelines in the country than getting more people with deeply dystopian and anti-human ideas into the country. This is how it was during the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s. If they couldn't find workers they would develop local programs to train talent and hire them directly into the company. These programs were very popular too and it's how a lot of Americans were able to afford a middle class lifestyle.

Guess what changed in the 90s?

If they want to work in the US they can become public school teachers and do a public service rather than continually help trillion dollar corporations immiserate the world.

thy_bucket_for_thee

You're right, the true danger are the republicans that will somehow rise up and start winning elections. Something they have proven to somehow achieve as they continue to lose influence every election with less house seats to boot.

Just ignore that the neoliberals have taken over the state and continue to do absolutely nothing while having a democratic trifecta outside of giving away more corporate welfare and continuing to work with ICE.

Thank you brave reddit warrior for teaching me the error of my ways! Now pass the ice soap and let's get nasty.

thy_bucket_for_thee

Both these groups make up less than 4% of the total US population combined... if they make up more than 20% of the company there is an extreme amount of intentional bias going on.

Maybe the anti-h1b people have a point.

thy_bucket_for_thee

Seeing how 80% of elections in this state are completely uncontested, I'm still going with no. Put a bet on polymarket and let me win my bag.

thy_bucket_for_thee

The odds of this happening in Massachusetts are the same odds of me having a threesome with Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez.

thy_bucket_for_thee

I agree, which is why we must vote yes on #3.

thy_bucket_for_thee

So in this example you have to literally remove votes from one candidate and give them to another, and that is the bad choice?

No offense dude but are you still in elementary school? In your given example it would be Moulton and Markey going to the general.

Is this what neoliberalism does to a person? Causes them to be bad at basic arithmetic?
