Your best bet is to create a system that can't easily be understood nor copied. I have yet to see an AI clone of XCOM, Final Fantasy Tactics, Metal Gear Solid, Tekken 7, Mortal Kombat X, nor many others. Know why? Too complicated to copy cheaply.
