I personally liked the series but sure, whatever. The point of the article and this thread was just to direct them appropriately. It’s not the clueless director taking liberties with this sacred text. It’s the author himself retconning some stuff he probably wished had been in the original work, and probably would have been, if it wasn’t his very first book.
vl99
Authors don’t always plan out connected universes from their very first novel. The fact he’s doing it now proves that it’s something he’s interested in doing.

IDK why everyone here is getting downvoted. Y’all are literally right. Like him/it or not, this is quite on-brand for SK.

I feel like this is exactly the kind of thing that King would have done himself, had he written Carrie at a different point in his life. Carrie was his first book, so wasn't gonna feature any of that penchant he has for tying in other works to his connected universe except retroactively.
The idea of tying the shining, the institute, and dr. sleep to carrie is exactly something he would have done if carrie were his latest book, not his first.

The True Knot were the main antagonist in dr sleep

I'm pretty current on Stephen King, and it seems to be building into a battle between The Institute (a shadow organization from another book of his that finds kids with powers and turns them into weapons of the government) and The True Knot (a group from another book of his that goes around finding people with powers and extracting them for personal pleasure/fuel/getting high) over Carrie, and her other psychic friend who as best I can tell seems to be a free agent.

AI has made it so that for many many tasks the only limit is the user’s imagination. And yet, people still build things others didn’t think to do because it turns out that imagination is a pretty important resource. AI is making that abundantly clear right now, while everyone at my agency with access to this technology is still developing at different rates and producing work of varying quality.
I can’t say as a blanket statement that no one should fear AI, but I do think those with imagination and drive are going to fare better than ever before.

Speak fr yourself buddy. I'm still playing on my gamecube!

Right? I feel like it succeeded at being like “see how those retail workers you abuse or mistreat live rich lives just as full and important as yours, maybe treat them like humans.”
That’s a good message even if not perfectly accurate to the way the workplace operates.
vl99
Uh…what?
vl99
It’s because he’s planning on naming New York, New United States already.
vl99
Well if it’s like the A3D, as soon as these ship in December, you’ll be getting to choose from a selection of cool LE colors right around that time.
vl99
It's consistently a mix of "I'm 23 years old with only $5 million in my 401k and panicking I won't be able to retire on time." And then posts like "I'm gonna be homeless starting tomorrow, and I owe $20k, what should I do?"

Exactly how I felt when 2 interns told me they got into marketing because of Emily in Paris
vl99
Buddy, 2026 doesn’t have to carry baggage, just get the tattoos other people like.
vl99
I was gonna ask how the hell OP is gonna tell me this is better than link’s awakening
vl99
Marketing is plenty creative, just not in the specific way you’re looking for. Lots of people get into marketing thinking it’s gonna be like the few scenes in Emily in Paris where she’s doing her job. It’s not like that.
Now, if you like being creative with data, you’ve got a home here.

I recall transparent analogue pockets also having cracking in similar areas to each other that was because of a manufacturing issue. Basically it accounting for clear plastic being weaker than regular plastic.

In the US, you agree to the terms associated with a variable interest rate loan upfront.
It is still a bit predatory because you can’t know if interest will go up or down when the usually 5 year period of the fixed term is up and turns to variable, so it feels a bit like gambling.
But it’s still nothing you didn’t agree to upfront.
vl99
How many airplanes have crashed into their homes?
vl99
How would it work otherwise? The loans are set for a specific term, so if interest goes up and timeline doesn’t change, then you need to pay more per month to pay it off on time . I suppose timeline could flex to maintain the same payment but then every year your timeline to pay it off would constantly change and you’d have no idea when you’re done paying.

Thank you for this. Every criticism of this book I have seen feels like it's coming from someone who thinks Shel Silverstein is saying "Be like the tree."
Nowhere in the book did he say this, and there's no interview where he's quoted explaining what he believes you're supposed to take away.
I feel like he's just explaining how it is in this type of relationship and people are projecting all kinds of stuff on it.
It's very clear to me that this book is meant to be read either by people who are taking advantage (and not aware of it) or being taken advantage of, and get a lens into what that looks like from a neutral perspective so they can re-evaluate if they want to still be engaging in that behavior.

The cable in your photo looks gray, but I thought the official ones were all black (or fun colors). I've used both the analogue pocket link cable and the ModRetro link cable with the Chromatic and both have worked.

Thanks for taking that feedback into account. It is seriously so awesome. I feel like I'll actually be able to use the device, which I mainly wanted to play pokemon.
I’m 36 and thought Cookie Monster, so your brother is the cutoff.
