The value of exports from the US to Canada typically quoted excludes digital services like Amazon, Netflix, Google, etc.

Including such services makes a big difference which is why the Trump admin got into a big huff about the digital services tax Canada was looking at implementing under Justin Trudeau.

I'm not sure if including digital services actually put the US at a trade advantage with Canada or not. If it doesn't, it comes awfully close to doing so - either almost or entirely wiping out Trump's argument that Canada is ripping the US off on trade.

Including digital services doesn't make US exports to Canada jump to 10% or anything but total exports to Canada are quite significant.

The r/degoogle sub has a good list in their wiki .

That's been one of their justifications for Trump's ballroom: Obama "put in a basketball court".

Modifying an existing outdoor tennis court for basketball is somehow about the same as demolishing the White House East Wing and building a ballroom for which the Republicans wanted $1 billion from taxpayers.

In the early days of Tesla, a lot were bought by people that wanted to help the environment with an all-electric car - almost the exact opposite of today's Elon-supporting cybertruck driver.

Some of these sold their Teslas but others can't really afford a new car so they still drive them. Some even got "I bought this before we knew Elon was crazy" bumper stickers to avoid vandalism on their cars.

Yeah. I wish mods would say why they remove things more often. (It seems increasingly rare these days).

How are people supposed to know what things to avoid doing? Just reading the sub rules/wiki is often not enough.

At least it wasn't shadow deleted...

ed: And this comment has been shadow deleted...

Is this the story you're thinking about?

The United States has circumvented a Swiss payment freeze on the Patriot air defense system by redirecting funds Bern had set aside for its F-35 fighter jet acquisition, Swiss public broadcaster SRF reported on March 27, 2026.

Switzerland halted Patriot payments in July 2025 after being notified of multi-year delivery delays, but the freeze has had limited practical effect due to the structure of the US Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program. The FMS program pools payments for multiple defense projects into a single fund, allowing US authorities to shift resources between programs.

At least some of them are scared, including the 3 the most dangerous out there right now:

  • Trump's clearly scared of going to prison - for many valid reasons.

  • Netanyahu's worried about going to prison for corruption. Some say he prolonged the war in Gaza to avoid the trial.

  • Jair Bolsonaro was scared and is now in prison.

  • Rodrigo Duterte is in ICC custody pending trial.

  • I don't know if Putin takes the ICC arrest warrants seriously but he's only traveled to very safe countries since. He's certainly scared he'll be killed if he doesn't succeed in Ukraine. He might be worried of being handed over to the ICC as part of Russian reparations.

Thanks! I came here looking for the name of the song. Once I saw the band name in your post, I could find the song.

Sam Roberts Band - "I Feel You"

Add that to the ones at the Department of Labor and the Department of Agriculture.

This is getting like North Korea or Hussein in Iraq. What a narcissist.

Imagine the fits the Republicans/Fox News would throw if Biden or Obama had put up even a single banner. Imagine if Hillary had won and done this!

Private jets are a needless scourge on the environment.

But I live in the real world and know they won't go away and are probably even somewhat reasonable in certain cases. But at the very least, something should be done to cut down on the absolutely frivolous use by people with more money than they can count. Maybe your climate change tax is it.

Some of the uses of private jets that make my blood boil:

  • Kylie Jenner using her private jet instead of driving 45 minutes.

    • The article includes a now-deleted Instagram comment:
      • “you wanna take mine or yours ?” she boldly captioned the Instagram post Friday - referring to which of her or boyfriend Travis Scott's private jets they should take. IIRC, they ended up using both of them...
  • Drake using his private jet multiple times to fly 70 km (~43 miles) from between Toronto and Hamilton, Ontario.

    • IIRC, his "home airport" is in Hamilton but he needed to be in Toronto. The traffic between the cities is famously bad but, allowing a little extra time would work or, at least taking a helicopter.

And, my favorite:

  • Private jets cluttering the tarmac at the airport in Terrace, British Columbia. (Terrace is near the southern tip of the Alaska panhandle.)

    • The jets were used to fly representatives of high-profile American conservation groups in for a fishing excursion, presumably from the US. But the river was closed to fishing. They later said they were doing research on dwindling salmon stocks.
    • Conservation groups flying multiple private jets to a remote area of BC for possibly illegal fishing. Gotta love it.
    • This is what Terrace, population 12,000, looks like, BTW.

There was one obvious Trump supporter at a different Dropkick Murphys concert that caught the band's attention.

That was satisfying to watch.

the city's police chief believes it's now time to rethink that approach

The time to rethink that was before it was started.

Not a cell in my body believes that cops don't realize, if they're truly being honest with themselves, that a good chunk of their colleagues are abusive assholes.

And that's in the case of (potentially) actual crimes.

In the case of someone who may have a not-yet-determined mental health crisis, cops have NO place in making that diagnosis.

Time and again, there are examples of cops not understanding the laws they're meant to enforce.

I know a few people that have been arrested and hand-cuffed for hours because a cop decided they needed medical attention for mental health issues.

In all of those cases, the doctors sent them home after talking to them - and only then were the handcuffs removed, cuz, ya know, criminals.

I've seen countless videos and read countless articles about hapless people that got mistreated by police on so-called "wellness calls". This is a good example.

Female cops dragging a woman by her hair down the hall and kicking her dominatrix-style.

Yeah. That's how you build a healthy, caring society. Having your cops go all dominatrix on their suffering citizens.

Oh yeah! How about the two cops beating on a 16 year old in Whitby after his mother phoned the police because his girlfriend said he "did not look well at school".

Yeah. "Not looking well" sure deserves getting beaten on.

There used to be a video but it might be gone. Iirc, there were two cops on the 16-year old. One woman helping hold him down and one man with his knee on his neck like the cop that killed George Floyd (a year after this). There were maybe 8-10 police cars there eventually.

I bet people that suffered actual crimes at that time were happy so many cops were busy watching a 16-year old getting beaten on instead.

Oh yeah. There was also the guy in Mississauga that was killed by cops as a result of a wellness check.

Police shouldn't be filling anyone's cavity, removing anyone's tumour, or assessing anyone's mental health.

Fundamentalists playing up their beliefs or non-fundamentalists pretending to be Christian - for their own benefit.

This is in general. Trey Gowdy may be a genuine believer but so many are just cosplaying, at worst, or exploiting their beliefs at best. Some examples:

I didn't want to leave the Democrats out. The only example I could think of was this but that, though performative, doesn't seem to be terribly hypocritical.

FWIW, it seems Privacy Badger isn't necessary with Firefox anymore.

For example, the arkenfox Github page on extensions states:

  • Ghostery, Disconnect, Privacy Badger, etc

    • Redundant with Total Cookie Protection (dFPI)
    • Note: Privacy Badger no longer uses heuristics by default, and enabling it makes you easily detected

Well, Trump is asking for 6,600 soldiers in that military parade he wants on his birthday.

Now I'm seeing Trump do that accordion hand thing going on about "nothing but the best soldiers".

He said he'd end the war before assuming office - lots of times, actually, eg:

March 4, 2023. Speech to the Conservative Political Action Conference in National Harbor, Maryland.

“Before I even arrive at the Oval Office, I will have the disastrous war between Russia and Ukraine settled. It will be settled quickly. Quickly. I will get the problem solved and I will get it solved in rapid order and it will take me no longer than one day. I know exactly what to say to each of them.”

Just over a year and a half away, actually.

And with Trump doing so much damage on so many fronts, a lot of Republicans in tight districts might see that they're sure to lose the seat unless they push back against Trump. We might be some of this maybe next summer. Might...

My biggest fear is the Republicans lose badly in the midterms and do all sorts of underhanded crap before the new session starts "while they still can".

Two ways:

  • The revenue from tariffs (taken from Americans pockets) will be used to fund massive tax cuts predominantly benefiting the wealthy.
  • They'll buy up assets like houses and land at fire sale prices.

A third way, mostly (?) unrelated to tariffs, is that the hollowing out of government lets the ultra rich jump in when parts of the government are privatized.
